ND's Current Class Ranking

IMO, people on this blog get angry at ESPN because many of their commentators have been right about us in the last 5 years.

I hate it, but Mark May has been way more accurate than Lou (or me) over that time span. It just is what it is.

While true, I think another large segment hate ESPN because they are sensationalists.

Everything is "super awesome" or "super bad" and it's their rhetoric that constantly undermines ND. For instance, Yell-gate with Brian Kelly was ridiculous blown out of proportion and got play time all year... when far worse sideline antics around the country got no coverage. That pisses people off.

My little brother goes to Penn State, him and his friends hate ESPN now because of how they depicted all Penn State students as rioting lunatics when the "riots" were hardly that... and then they warped soundbites from a couple students to make all PSU students sound like insensitive morons.

So then it comes to recruiting, and people HATE how they overrate players in the Under Armour All-American game... and how they really put in no leg work whatsoever to provide accurate/up-to-date news... and really just seem like they care more about what's going to "intrigue" people than doing a thorough/journalistic job. You see stuff like Deontay Greenberry being the #19 WR and you LOL. You see stuff like like Davonte Neal not being listed as considering ND when it's the only place he's taken an OV and you LOL. You see things like them listing Cal but not ND in Ifeadi Odenigbo's final 3 when ND has been in his final 3 more months and he was not seriously considering Cal, and... you guessed it... it makes people LOL.

Rivals has gotten no better. It was a joke when they didn't give Lynch a 5:s:. It's a joke that they have 20 WRs in the Top 100 but as soon as Jarron Jones committed to ND they moved him out of the top 100 despite him being the #7 DT. It's a joke when Mike Farrell goes on national TV and talks **** about Elijah Shumate being a LB. It's a joke when they pull an ESPN and uprank all of the guys playing in their All-Star game.

Why do people like 247? Because a 100 point grading scale makes sense. Because their class ranking formula makes sense. Because their mods put in legwork and never (or at least rarely) give false or "misleading" information like you see from ESPN "journalists" and Rivals mods on the regular.

At this point, it's just folly to suggest that either Rivals or ESPN is remotely close to an "accurate" service. ESPN doesn't care; and time has passed Rivals by.

Doesn't 247sports rank players higher than 100 sometimes? I swear I thought Clowney was like a 105 or something.

there are some things ESPN does very well. (the 30 for 30 films were all classics) and sports center is my go to show for highlights. however, many of their "personalities" just say things to create sensation. They want to "be the story" and 99% of the time it just ends up pissing someone off.

On anyone else's screen does it show Ha Ha Clinton Dix for #19 overall instead of Hasean I believe? Me thinks a Auburn fan might have had something to do with this. Hmmmmm

I think Ha Ha is his nickname. I do recall the guys calling the All American game calling someone Ha Ha.

Back down to #6.... the time ahead of Michigan was short lived LOL

Bring on Arik Armstead later this week. And you gotta hope for Yuri Wright.

In other news, interested to see what kind of shakeups happen in the top 247. I think Darby is moving up and Yuri Wright is likely moving down. Wouldn't be surprised to see Arik move down a little too as he plays DE... maybe to a 98.

If Jarron Jones drops I'll be a bit pissed because he was both banged up and underweight from playing basketball... and still had a sack + some very good plays.

And yes, 100 is their "base" high score with ratings above 100 possible for truly special prospects.

Tee should move up and Shumate. Also, I agree with on Jones.

On the first item: Is there an alternative? When I was younger I preferred CNN Sports Tonight w/ Fred Hickman and Vince Cellini (probably slaughtered that). When Fox attempted their illfated sports network (I don't get it on Dish....is it still even on air?)...I didn't event attempt to watch their nightly wrap.

On the second item: I agree and it's self evident. And ESPN, like any "news" outlet (Fox, MSNBC and CNN, albeit to a lesser degree in my opinion) don't even bother to issue retractions or apologies, they just pretend like they never said it, never had anything to do with it. Hell, even when something happens with a former employee who is still prominent in sports they'll tell the story and then list every employer he/she ever had...except ESPN. Case in point is Mike Milbury, they never mentioned that he worked at ESPN when the "news" broke about his alleged assault on a 12-year-old kid but mentioned every other employer he had going back to the 80's. It was back in the mid 90s when he worked there but, again, they mentioned every other position on his resume going back further than that.

ESPN doesn't make those films.. others make them and ESPN just shows them.. I guess give them credit for showing good films, but it's not like they're theirs

It has been obvious for some time that the front seven is the key issue with recruiting and beyond... this staff seems to be on the right track with the D Line... hopefully the mo. that Teo and Williams have giving them over the past four years will translate more and more...

Jones definitely wont be a 5 star in the final 247 rankings. I asked JC (Shurburtt... Sherbert... Ice Cream) and he said he would be moving down. Barton Simmons was also bashing him the whole week at practice even after finding out he had been injured.

The sack he had is also being discredited because the QB basically fell into his lap on the play. Michigan fans were saying that Magnuson dominated JJ the whole game.

MGoBlog's recruiting guy speculated that Magnuson would drop as result of his performance actually.

Jones got in the backfield on at least 3 plays I watched including a should've been sack where he forced him into another guy, a tackle for loss and a sack... while playing 30 lbs underweight and hurt... just silly to me.

Haven't seen you around lately, or have I not noticed your posts? In any case, Thanks for the info.

Dropped from 6 to 10 on 247. Jarron Jones went down from a 5 star to 4 star.
Yep. Every single one of ND's verbals who are in the top 247 fell in the rankings except for Greenberry. Not sure why Tee didn't move up, but whatever.

Tee moved from 52 to 50, I think. Not much.

He sat out his senior season and that is why. No matter what he did in the Semper Fi game/practices.

that had already been figured into his ranking prior to this final ranking...so it is a tad puzzling as to why...but oh well
