ND-USC Post Game Thoughts

I agree with everything you said in your post, the way this team played we were going to win this football game, my one concern and I don’t mean to take away from the joy of this huge win, but...
In a huge football game at night everyone comes out jacked up and ready to play especially in Notre Dame stadium, why we insist with a mediocre return game and a young sometimes one dimensional quarterback to start on offense all the time is beyond me. CJ gets tackled near the ten, three and out, punt to fUSC, they start in our territory...If they don’t fumble the snap, and complete one pass they are basically in scoring range. If they put up 7, maybe this game looks a lot different, although I agree we have a clearly better team this year. Just feel like you play with fire when you do this and give the opposing team the opportunity for huge momentum to start the game and to start the second half. That turnover changed the game without it?? Or against a better, gamer opponent??

Yea...I think that could have spelled a tighter ball game, for sure. CJ does some nice things but I have not been happy with his returns...KJ is a better choice. Playing with a angry steak right now....he is going to hit one up in there and break i if they keep using him.

You make a great point about always choosing the ball...as the defense seems to be pretty solid. The argument for deferring is at least approaching 50/50. In this game I would have wanted the ball first too because IMHO the ref. point differential is like 14 points...I want those points on the board just as fast as I can get them. Didn't go as planned, but they did get them quickly...and the refs, while funny at times, weren't ever a factor.....just the way I like it.

I haven’t seen an ND team impose their will like that ever. I was born in 1990, so I missed out on Lou’s teams. The ‘12 team had some swagger and punished some teams, but tonight was different.

EVERY. SINGLE. PLAY. ND players were playing through the whistle, hitting, driving USC players down field or into the sidelines. Defenders swarmed ballcarriers and receivers. Even if USC got yardage, the first defender would hold them up, and help was on the way (and it was on the way with bad intentions).

ND broke BC. Broke MSU. Broke UNC. But they RIPPED OUT TROJAN HEARTS AND PUNISHED THEIR SOULS. They drained all competitive will and heart from USC, and the physical mismatch went from being “pretty big” to being “the size of the fucking ocean.”

Tevon Coney set the tone. The team followed. The defense plays every play with the mentality of “that’s my ball, and I will break you if I can’t get it.” The offense smelled blood in the water and repeatedly stepped on USC throats and ripped out USC spines.

It was borderline erotic.

Also, I’m just putting this out there in the open so we can skip the debate in the “Banned Users” thread.

NDgradstudent bitched all week about USC’s recent success over ND.

He’s gonna show up at some point, try to pour cold water on the win, discredit ND in general, and I am going to permaban him. Just a heads up.

Nomination for greatest post EVER!

Another new thing we are doing with the Jumbotron is airing the pregame prayer. The entire stadium stood up and it was chilling. It’s a new tradition that is completely unique to Notre Dame and made it clear to every man, woman and child... that you’re watching a game in Our Lady’s stadium.

Go Irish.

That's pretty awesome.

Someone needs to video it and post it online!
I'd love to see.

After seeing the spring game I said that the defense was sub par and the coaches would have to find a way to shore it up-THEY DID-and this defense plays with an edge and hit the whole game---spectacular display. I AM THE FIRST TO SAY I WAS WRONG. Even the 2nd string guys were hitting late in the game. Its obvious they (coaches) have changed the culture-hats off. We always knew this offense would put points on the board and Wimbush is a handful with his ability to run then pass. The schedule is killer and N C State is a very good team along with Stanford/Wake/Navy/Miami down the line (quantlet). No matter what happens from here out I am proud of these guys and lets give it up for this group. I have listened to a few reports of this game by the heads and Darnold caught a lot of flack for a bad game and turnovers-Notre Dames defense made that happen plain and simple. Here's one for the college boys and college life experience. How about the shot of 'Big Mike' hugging his coach.

Say ND goes 11-1, and then loses a good game to Bama or wins a NY6 bowl game... will the Kelly haters admit they were wrong?

What exactly does it mean to lose a "good game" to Bama? Losing by less than 28?

74% of P5 teams have won at least one NY6 game at some point since the last time we did (January 1994). Winning NY6 games should be standard for ND. Winning one in eight years does not exactly dazzle me.

If Kelly wins a title, I'll happily admit I was wrong.

That was just amazing. Gave me chills. What a great atmosphere last night. Crowd was awesome, and I love the Jumbotron addition.

It's tacky. Isn't there something in the Bible about praying in public?

The team prayer... in the locker room? If so, that's pretty cool.

And, I'm not even Catholic.

Instead of banning NDgradstudent, we should all, the entire board, block him. He'd just ramble on and bitch to himself, and we wouldn't even see it.

That’s not fair. There were a great deal of guys this year that clearly opined that they felt BK was the wrong guy and that he couldn’t turn it around to being a playoff caliber team. But here we are...

Devils advocate : We still don't know that.

I'm fully onboard the hype train, but I think it's a bit ridiculous to play the "I told you so" game with the fans who wanted him gone after the second worst season in ND history because we've had a good season thus far. He more than earned his criticism and anyone who doubted his ability was honestly just being realistic. Like I said in another thread, I cannot remember another time a coach had a season that bad and rebounded successfully. It's almost unprecedented.

Almost all teams pray before games. But as far as I know no other school tries to call attention to it via a Jumbotron. It's a way of the school making the prayer be "seen by others," i.e., against the spirit of Matthew 6:5.

Seriously, do you even fucking like ND? Be honest. You can't ever find 1 thing to like. EVER. You are insufferable and miserable.
