Told rivals that Tenn., Auburn, and Florida are in his top 5 and will get OV 's. ND is in the running for one of the last two spots. Said he's also looking at visiting USC and Oregon. Once again said that it's goin to have to be a special school to take him from the south. I think we've done a great job here but I don't see him leaving the SEC. He's fairly adamant in most interviews that staying close to home and the SEC is of a lot of importance to him.

Hoping his dad beats some sense in him

this is his dad stating this-----“I have a preference — I like Notre Dame, because Notre Dame I think would be good for him for the education,” Holyfield said. "And I think they’ve got a good football team and he plays good football. It doesn’t make a difference where he plays. He’s going to run the ball. I just want him to get the thing that’s necessary to make him rounded. So when this is over, he won’t have any regrets.”

How has he looked at camps? Is he trending up or down? Would love to add him but would the coaches take two RBs that'll likely hit 230?

I'm not trying to sound overly optimistic, just wondering where they view Holyfield in light of our other commitment.

IMO, the coaches wont have the opportunity to add him. While his Dad may favor us, it sounds like Elijah has focused on SEC schools.

His dad lost a lot of his fortune and seemed to learn from it so I always figured at least his dad would like us.

Too many kids can't see the big picture at that age. When he's forty, out of football and living from paycheck to paycheck he might finally get it.

It's a shame we weren't in his father's ear more.

[EDIT] Shit, made the same lame joke back in March. At least I'm consistent.

Evander Holyfield wanted his son to go to Notre Dame instead of UGA | For The Win

Evander Holyfield’s son, Elijah Holyfield, is one of the brightest high school football prospects in the country.

The 5’10”, 204-pounder committed to his hometown University of Georgia Bulldogs late last week and, in guaranteeing himself college football next year, realized a dream that his father Evander had always hoped to fulfill.

Evander is obviously very pleased for his son, but that doesn’t mean he totally agrees with his decision. Speaking as part of the Boys & Girls Club of America’s launch of its new Alumni program, Evander told ForTheWin he was pushing for his son to choose Notre Dame over UGA. It’s slightly curious considering the Holyfield family lives in Georgia and that Holyfied himself says he’s a Georgia fan, but his reasoning makes sense:

“If you go to college you go to get an education. That’s why I tried to get him to go to Notre Dame.”

He continued:

“What are you going to do from 25-75? Education is the key. Life is more than football, just like life is more than boxing. I’m can’t say that Georgia can’t give him a good education, but only that at Notre Dame you’d be getting a $250,000 a year education instead of a $50,000 education.”

Apparently dad wanted him at ND:

Evander Holyfield tried to get son to pick Notre Dame over UGA

Four-star running back Elijah Holyfield (College Park, Ga./Woodward Academy) committed to the University of Georgia on Friday, with a pair of live Bulldogs in his hands.

Hours after announcing his decision to attend Georgia, which he discussed in detail here, Holyfield ran for four touchdowns in his first action of his senior season, which you can see here. His father, Evander Holyfield, grew up in Atlanta.

“I’m a Georgia Bulldogs fan,” Evander told 247Sports in July. "I've always been a Bulldog. I always cheered for the Bulldogs. There was just something about the Bulldogs."

Not only did the boxing legend support Georgia, but his favorite player starred at the same position his son now plays.

“Of course, it was Herschel Walker,” Holyfield said. “We’re the same age. Georgia always had good running backs."

But Evander also admitted his preference was for Elijah to go elsewhere.

“I have a preference — I like Notre Dame, because Notre Dame I think would be good for him for the education,” Holyfield said.

Holyfield told USA Today's ForTheWin this week that he pushed his son to choose the Fighting Irish, even though they did not make up his final five - Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

“If you go to college you go to get an education. That’s why I tried to get him to go to Notre Dame," Holyfield said. “What are you going to do from 25-75? Education is the key. Life is more than football, just like life is more than boxing. I can’t say that Georgia can’t give him a good education, but only that at Notre Dame you’d be getting a $250,000 a year education instead of a $50,000 education.”

These celebs know what they're talking about, it's no wonder so many end up sending their kids to ND. Maybe this one isn't done, but I expect he'll stick with Georgia.

Me too unless we make the CFB playoff and keep putting smackdowns on opponents. If we fall back to earth and have "typical ND" things happen, then I'm certain he won't reconsider.

Evander isn't the one at school for 4 years. It's nice to see a parent truly put an emphasis on their child's education, but the decision is 100% Elijah's. At least pops was classy about it, and didn't throw a fit like the LSU mom did, TWICE. There are far worse places for a stud running back to go than Georgia.

I'm guessing the discussion went like this:

Dad: Go to Notre Dame
Son: I want to go to Georgia
Dad: Then Notre Dame it is!
Son: Dad, you're not listening
Dad: I have no ears thanks to Mike Tyson.....

Even if he changes his mind it won't be to go to ND. We didn't even make his top five. That kid drank a very tall glass of SEC Kool Aid.
