Plantz is a GA himself right, obviously HH has no time for wading through job applications

I know it wouldn't happen, but what if they convinced Justin Tuck to come in and coach the defensive ends? That could pay off huge in recruiting.

...If I were in that Boat I'd got get Bruce Smith...There is a dude whose name would net you a couple recruits out of the gate...and if he had some success getting some kids to the league...Katie bar the door.

Not saying Tuck wouldn't be a great get...but in that position, Smith is like Jordan.

We sure that it's not a legal requirement to post before filling?

If ND were a state school it would need to be publicly posted. I don't think a private institution is legally required to make a public posting but it may just be university policy to do so.

The ad clearly states OFFENSIVE LINE... as in Tommy Rees need not apply.

Not sure what to make of that.

If he wanted to be a GA perhaps, dude's a pitch man for a beer company not sure that's a good look for the university.

Since when did Catholics stop drinking beer?

He hasn't played since 2003. I bet most kids don't even know who he is.

...IDK. I will tell you I have intentionally made a job announcement misleading and ambiguous when I already had a candidate in mind...:)

I'd be OK with Tuck, as he's an alum, and certainly understands the ND culture. Plus, might be able to help out recruiting down south (Bama, Mississippi, and so on).

Appears to be no further involvement of Longo with ND football at this time

So the Longo "leave of absence" is interesting. That means he is still on the payroll. There are a billion strategic reasons to do that with an employee...just trying to figure why ND is doing it with Longo?

Probably still mulling whatever position they have offered him.

Well Brian, we will pay your best friend for a year, even if he does nothing, if you promise to resign after next season.

Good point on Bruce Smith there.

Tuck, on the other hand, has been a spokesman for Subway. Kids eat at Subway.

Tuck works...Strahan would work too...although Strahan already makes more than any coach, and he has no grief, beyond people fighting over what show he's on.

I do think if ND announced Bruce Smith as a D line coach, you wouldn't have to explain anything to anyone...media from ESPN to the tinniest blogger in Siberia would make damn sure EVERY kid knew who he was, and what he did...HOF guy who made a name for being in the backfield...pressure, pressure, pressure. What has ND lacked?

funny, but thats kinda what I thought...or some permutation of keeping him around for kelly so he could take him to his next HC gig...starting next year.

What I heard times two was that Paul Longo was taking an assistant to the head coach non-coaching job, which sounded like the one Bobby Elliott had. Wonder what is happening.

I think it is still in play. The LOA is merely time away to perfect his technique as an assistant from the training firm of Dennis Hof.

Ah so maybe they really don't have time to define his position and duties until after signing day maybe? That would make some sense then.

Torre Becton, the S+C assistant at USC who was rumored to be in the mix for the ND Head S+C gig has accepted the job at Cal.
