Between the lack of mentions for Jim Bob Cooter and the false narrative of BK not running the hires leaves this thread lacking at best.

I just repeated what I heard. There is substantial evidence that there is truth to it.

It doesn't take a genius to realize that Kelly would have hired Quinn as OC, hell, more than one of the reporters have said that! Ask them.

But I will say this, a lot of what I've heard (and some of what I repeated) serves a purpose other than revealing what is going on inside the program.

Long is about the last person Kelly would have hired as OC, if the decision was all his.

And if he was trying to save his job, do you think he would have hired young guys like either Long or Elko?

I don't get the whole Tommy sucked, therefore he can't coach argument. It doesn't really matter if he can't run a 4.3. You don't need to be heisman winner to be a great teacher/coach. I mean Saban is 5'4 and he's a pretty good coach. If Kelly and company judge that he has all the tools to be a really good QB coach, so be it. I really don't see why this would automatically be categorized as a bad hire. The truth is I have no idea, like most of you...

To add to your argument. Trent Dilfer is considered one of the best QB coaches.

He would coach Wimbush to never ever ever run and to always just throw it away.

To this end Rees might be the perfect QB Coach under BK. He's Irish, he knows the BK offense and can enforce it, and who else has seen the brunt of Kelly's ire and didn't crack? Might be good for someone like Tommy to pass down how to keep yourself in check in those situations.

Is this a positive? I know he was a coach's son and his limitations were physical, but does he have the experience to be a QB coach at ND already?

Why not? I'm sure he knows all the appropriate mechanics, and can teach them. I don't see any problem with this as long as QB coach and recruiter is his own responsibilities.

It sounds like BK is surrounding his offense with guys who won't challenge him and are young and can relate to players and recruits. Its probably his last year and after his couple out of the box hires he went with someone he knows and knows this offense inside and out. Wonder how good of a coach Rees is and how he can croot

He's currently an offensive assistant in the NFL.
He spent 1 year as a Grad assistant and NW

Even if it's as the true positional coach, he's really just running the individual drills and relaying the day's report to BK in the office.

BK would still be THE QB coach, it would just be during pass skeleton and full unit work.

I think Tommy could do it as the positional coach, and do it well. He was uncanny in his intelligence and getting the team into the proper plays. Based on his physical limitations, he had no business putting up the numbers that he did... and yet his knowledge of how BK wants the QB to operate lead to a lot of success.

Rees already did the GA gig with Northwestern in 2015.

Tommy Rees would be a very lazy hire, IMO, one of many for Kelly. Sometimes the lazy hires work out (Diaco/Denbrock), and sometimes they don't (Molnar/VanGorder), I'm not sure there is some magic formula. But I am done assuming that Kelly is particularly great at picking/hiring assistants. If he does hire rees, I'll just assume that: (1) Kelly thinks he can do the job well, and (2) Kelly is extremely comfortable with him. Whether #1 is true is TBD.

But good news on the S&C front, apparently!

This is what I'm reading too. Man...this sure was reported by a few credible sources as true. Sounds like there's literally been no discussion between Rees and Nd....Weird.

Rees has an agent who is trying to find him a future after San Diego.

It would be a good fit.

From the tweets, it didn't sound like he was doing the classic non-denial denial, more like the aggressive denial. He should learn that you don't have to intentionally mislead media and a simple I decline to comment is perfectly reasonable.

Rees has not interviewed for the Notre Dame QB coach job in any capacity, he said. "It's not true."

This will be interesting to follow. Given Tommy's background, I think he would make a great coach. He was raised to think like a coach.
