But damn, this is the most incredible brand of ND football I've watched in my lifetime. I can say that with confidence because I'm only in my 30s and didn't get to enjoy the 80s.

I've been able to enjoy the 60's, 70's and 80's and I don't remember any back doing what Adams has done with those big runs.

I had a thought, today, as he was breaking off that big run:

How fast would he be, had he not gotten the knee injury in high-school?

The play calling on the first two drives scared me.

I remember a long pass on second down incomplete, followed by a run up the middle on third and long. I worried that BK got too involved in play calling again, or else that Long was falling into the same traps that UGA presented.

But then he dialed up a really nice game to attack NC State vertically and downhill, calling just enough of the ineffective stretch stuff to keep them honest.

If Long and Wimbush both keep improving? Goodness this offense will be borderline unstoppable.

Well I remember the early 80's through present and the only other RB that I can compare him to is Denson. He could end his career doing something no other RB has done before. This is special.

Think about all the great running backs we have had....

I know he isnt a mutli dimensional player but as a pure RB.... he is having a hell of a career.

Miami's defense is legit. their offense is a work In progress to say the least, but I like their chances at home next week.

I'm talking about their game a giant Virginia tech dude. I think we beat Miami, but I like Miami's chance at home against tech with that D.

Total Defense: 50
Pass Defense: 26
Rush Defense: 85
Turnovers: 52

If Wimbush/Adams et al. take care of the ball we will trounce this defense.

My first home game thoughts
1. Was really worried the block punt was going to change momentum, didn't do shit but piss them off and we scored
2. Lots of def holding/pass interference against our wr's not called
3. This team has great mind set
4. No pressure for much of game
5.dbs were making plays besides the one on Elliot
6. Holy shit Adams with another 70 yarder wow just wow.. It's like almost expected now each game
7. Def some weird play calls at time
8. Just an unreal experience and I will write about it in my thread...

Two things that haven't been said yet:

- Wimbush didn't have great numbers but that was easily his best game of the season. Made some nice throws and didn't really miss any (one or two deep but those were as much on the receiver).

- I loved how aggressive we were in pass coverage. We can't do that every week, but NC State's WRs weren't going to burn us and they'd obviously studied the QB to feel so comfortable jumping routes all night.

This is the most fun ND team to watch since the Lou Holtz years. It is so amazing/shocking/unexpected to actually have a defense, a huge run game, and swagger. Through all those dark years, it was said that ND can't compete due to the limitations of academics, cold weather affecting recruiting or whatever. Well, whether this team makes the playoffs or not, wins the title or not, this season has proven that the limitations are not insurmountable. Chip Long calling plays and mostly Elko have transformed this team. Who would have imagined where this team is at this point after last season? Point is, enjoy it, embrace it, whatever happens, it feels great to be back among the best!

The way this season is going is like a magnificent flashback to being an ND fan as a kid. This is how we used to beat up opponents! Enjoy it, fellas!

I would have to go back and check scores, but did we even pound opponents so regularly during the Holtz era (88-91 ish)?

Somehow my uncle was texting Ryan Grooms and we met him at the gate and got pregame field passes. Incredible experience I will never forget. Go Irish!

Anyone else love seeing Chase knock his defender down, and clap in his face?... Causing the defender to shove him in the face?

I know taunting is taunting, and it COULD cost us, eventually... But damn, I love that kind of trash talking. That reminds me of 80s/90s NBA stuff.

I'm all for this attitude!

Bobby Bowden used to say that “every championship team has at least two players who grew up without a mailbox”. Fact of the matter is that football is (still) a violent game and, as such, you gain an advantage when you can recruit players who are gifted at inflicting violence without reservation.

Q. Nelson should be in the Heisman discussion. That guy is a one man wrecking crew.

Elko is a boss and Long is a great OC, but we can't forget Balis. I feel like the swagger everyone talks about comes from him. The physicality, the ability to just wear teams down and break their mind, body, and spirit, and the killer mindset I feel stem from him and the work he puts the boys through in the weight room.

Obviously though, ND's current play is a culmination of effective coaching across the board and everyone deserves credit.

No. We pounded the Rices and Navys of the NCAA (Navy sucked back then), but against real teams, the scores were pretty close.

It was a different game back then but yes. ND's physicallity under Holtz was unquestionable. The 1990-1993 classes were specimens. The seniors of 1988 team were animals.

Not sure if scores reflected it though.

I'm not sure what impressed me more, Josh Adams running up their ass for over 200 yards or the defense only giving up 7 points to an offense that had scored at least 27 points in every game prior to yesterday.

So much good happened yesterday that I wouldn't be surprised if I accidentally leave a few things out of my observations.

-Josh Adams. The first running back I remember playing for Notre Dame was Julius Jones (yes, I'm that young). Julius Jones, Darius Walker, Armando Allen, Theo Riddick, Cierre Wood: there have been seem decent/good running backs in South Bend for 10+ years, but none of them have been as good as Adams IMO. We heard all week long how stout NC State's defense was against the run. Josh and the offensive line obviously didn't care how good they were and the Wolfpack defense left South Bend with their tail between their legs. He could easily have 1,600+ yards rushing and 15+ touchdowns by the end of the season. He truly is a special talent.

-Josh Adams can only be as good as the guys up front blocking for him. The o-line wore down that NC State d-line as the game went on. They weren't getting a huge push in the 1st quarter, but the 2nd quarter on they really got it going. There isn't an o-line in the country that I'd trade for, and that includes Alabama. Harry Heistand continues to prove that he is the best hire that BK has made during his time at ND and probably in his career.

-Mike Elko and the defense, wow! It is amazing how Mike Elko has taken the same players from the 2016 defense that couldn't even stop a bloody nose and has turned them into a defense that is physical, plays with an attitude, plays with a swagger, forces turnovers, and simply doesn't give up many points. Elston has done a great job with the d-line. Lea has done a good job with the backers. Lyght has done a good job with the defensive backs. They have been playing dominant football.

-Tevon Coney has been playing his ass off and has all but locked up his starting spot for the 2018 season. This dude just does not miss tackles. He made a great play on 4th and short yesterday that really took away any momentum that NC State might have had left. He almost never gets beat to the sideline on an outside run. He has been playing really good football.

I believe during the broadcast Tirico said the last time we had this many 20 point wins was 1966.

To say the light came on for Coney this year would be an understatement. This dude is FUN to watch and arguably our second best LB ATM, IMO
