Just saw “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” with a live orchestra playing the score alongside the film... pretty dope. John Williams is a boss.

Went to see 'Father Figures' with the family on Christmas day. Save your money! It has a couple funny parts, especially Terry Bradshaw and Katt Williams, but other than that it is beyond horrible.

Show with fem theme
Movies about war
Show with fem theme

I saw Darkest Hour and would give it a B.

Gary Oldman was great, the acting in general was great, the set designs and cinematography were great....but somehow they turned World War II into a C+ storyline. Its lack of a third act really held the movie back. It should have been 30 minutes longer and it may have been Best Picture worthy.

Saw it last night for my birthday with my family to educate them but it really covered about a one month period. It waa well done but thought Oldman moved around too quickly for a chubby old man. Relaxes of a young man. I’m a Churchill buff and he was a great man. Watch the PBS miniseries on YouTube called “Churchill the Wilderness Year’s” with Robert Hardy. It’s inspriring.

"The Accountant." Very good movie. You'd think that a movie about an OCD bookkeeper who is also a John Wick style badass would be ripe for cheesy silliness. But this movie tells a good story and pulls all of its narrative threads together in a very satisfactory way.

Saw "Three Billboards". Very good movie. Have always been a big fan of McDormand, Rockwell, and Harrelson. Loved Rockwell's character the most. His best movie IMO since "The Assassination of Billy....". McDormand and Harrelson were their typical rock solid selves. Not a movie everyone is going to love, but was very enjoyable to me.

Saw "It" as well. Much better than expected. Great group of kid actors. Sophia Lillis has a future ahead of her I believe. Jeremy Ray Taylor was great too. Overall very solid.

Watched "The Killing of a Sacred Deer". Keoghan gave another great performance. If you only seen him in Dunkirk, check this movie out. Also check out "Love/Hate" which is an Irish TV series. Farrell and Kidman were solid, and their two kids were pretty good newcomers. Not a movie for everyone. Polite and antiseptic story of revenge.

All The Money in The World. Pretty meh.

If you know the story behind it you're not missing much, interesting to say the least. I'd say 6/10 but I've seen some pretty terrible movies as of late and this was probably one of the better ones.

Yup. Talked about this movie, earlier in the thread. Very entertaining. It's like "Forrest Gump": simple movie, but I seem to be drawn to it, whenever it's on.

I finally saw "The Last Jedi." It was not good. The stakes feel small; with all the big money on the screen this does not have an epic feel. I don't think the filmmakers are doing a good job creating a relationship between the new main characters that gives them a strong screen chemistry. Plus, it was boring in a lot of areas. I kept hoping it was over, but the movie kept head faking and on and on it went.

I watched the most recent "Pirates of the Caribbean" last night.

It looked horrible in previews. It sounded like Depp had forgotten how to talk like Jack Sparrow. The story seemed relatively uninteresting, as there was nothing intriguing about the main villain from trailers and commercials. So, I never had plans to watch it.

BUT, it's on Netflix, so my wife and I decided to give it a try.

I was pleasantly surprised! It wasn't a great film by any means, but it was much more tolerable than I expected. Depp sounded funny at times, but got Sparrow's voice right for the most part. I thought the new "main" characters were much better than those in the last installment ("On Stranger Tides").

I actually laughed out loud a few times, and I laughed my ass off during one scene in particular, where Jack Sparrow is under threat of guillotine, and the action causes the guillotine to spin around in circles, with the blade inching up to Sparrow's neck, and then sliding back to safety with each intense rotation.

The climax was decent, and there was even an intriguing post-credits scene that brings some previous main characters back into the fold.

My main complaint was that the opening "bank vault" scene was about five minutes too long, and there wasn't enough classic "Jack Sparrow" action.

Overall, I was entertained for most of the film, and the villain ended up being much stronger than the previews let on, which was huge. I would watch it again at some point, if for no other reason than the fact that it was about 10x better than the last installment.

And after stewing on it, I feel like part of the reason this movie "failed" was a simple failure of marketing. For the sake of saving some mystery/intrigue concerning the villain, and by overplaying the "Young Jack Sparrow" angle, they left the audience with virtually zero good reasons to see the film.

Does anyone here actually pay attention to the Oscars anymore? Not a loaded question or anything just honestly curious, I couldn't have given two shits about any of that for a number of years now...

Best thing I'd seen in years. Casey Affleck 100% won that Oscar and I still think Manchester should've been the BP winner. That damn movie hits hard.

I try not to care too much, but I like to see great performances and works rewarded. I've tried to use the nominees from the past few years to get a gauge of how strong the year was. 2014 was strong, 2015 was weak, 2016 was very strong, and now I'm looking forward to seeing how this year stacks up.

Nope. Its turned into a televised forum for the self righteous to spew their political views. No thanks.

Haven't watched them in probably 20 years, but then I don't watch any of the awards shows. Just don't do anything for me. I do look at who won and try to catch the movies.

Awesome movie.

Saw Dunkirk and Rommel this week. Very good... both of them.

Just watched Dunkirk. Given the build up and everything I heard, I was a little disappointed. Good movie, just not on the same par as SPR, Fury or Hacksaw Ridge. I would have liked to know more about the German advance. How far away were they? Beside those few frog eaters, what were the other fortifications around Dunkirk?

I own Creed, Hacksaw Ridge, Fury, and a few other recentish movies I haven't been able to sit and watch (all gifts by those who assumed I'd enjoy them)... I've seen enough of Fury on TV to get the gist of it but the other two I haven't seen a second of... I assume all three are worth my time?

Creed is a good reboot of Rocky. Hacksaw's second half is similar in the bloody mess to Fury, though Fury is far darker.

Edit: misread your question at first

Dunkirk is a very different kind of war movie than Hacksaw Ridge and Fury. The second half of Hacksaw and Fury are similar in the bloody mess that's shown on screen, but of course Fury is much darker. There are not really battles in Dunkirk, as it is the story of an evacuation, one that is very much part of the British identity. The cinematography and storytelling was great, though I'm okay with minimal dialogue. If those sorts of things aren't what you're looking for in a WWII film, I'd suggest maybe passing on Dunkirk

I saw Dunkirk and enjoyed it... the parts I saw of Fury were a bit over the top but not comic book stuff... I assume Ridge is more like Private Ryan. I know nothing of Creed and would prob never watch it except my friends and family all liked it and insist I would too.

Yeah I edited my response as I realized I misread your question. Hacksaw's first half was like a weird A&E Romance.
