Me seeing that most of my posts on this thread are fighting with Irishdrunk about him sucking off Kelly and saying our offense under Rees is a chore to watch

Only thing I said really critical of Marcus was immediately post NIU that "you are who you are" in year 3 and he was only middling so far. I can stand by that one.

I don't remember posting on here, but I let my 85 year old grandfather know post-NIU that losing to the Huskies means we'd probably see more Ls later in the year and that it would probably lead to Marcus being fired. I saw the possibility of making the 12 team playoffs but thought it was remote and we'd need a ton of help to get there. I still maintain the stupidest decision of the NIU game was going for that 60 yard FG at the end of the game when they'd already had one blocked earlier from even closer. That to me was an inexcusably stupid decision that had 0 shot of paying off.

Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, 10 fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I have just described to you the Loch Ness Monster, and the reward for its capture… all the riches in Scotland. So I have one question, why are you here?
A semi-good time.

Re-reading front page is crazy, some people were 100% prophets... specifically TNU talking about the OC issues and the dynamic of being saddled with Rees...

...and the usual suspects could not have been more wrong.

Rees was hamstrung by BK and Long. Look at those '19 and '20 classes. Mayer and Kyrie were the only skill players from 2 years that were really successful. Everyone else transferred, moved to defense, or never reached potential. We had to start all those freshmen and sophomores in '21 and '22 from Rees' first classes because Long and BK laid those eggs. It paid dividends later, and Parker was a hickup that set us back a year, but fast forward to this season. Aside from our WR transfers, most of our starters this year are upperclassmen that came from Rees and Freeman's first classes. Love, Carr, Greathouse, Raridon, Schrauth, Craig, Wagner, and some other role players like Price. With the exception of Carr who looks to have all the tools, that's an experienced starting lineup of real talent. The seeds were sown so Debrock didn't have a bare cupboard to work with.

A visual look at your exact points. Cupboard was very bare.

MF was leaving after 2021 and BK would have had to make another DC hire(I know he had been hitting but he whiffed on his first LSU one). I think dark days would have been ahead.

Can’t believe that we didn’t recruit a meaningful QB prospect from 2018 to 2022. Also, our WR recruiting was awful during that same period. Unacceptable and happy BK left.

But BK was shopping down a different aisle!...it was the Wal-Mart grocery. Problem is he didn't realize there was a Whole Foods across the street that was within budget.

First, is anyone else having trouble with the site over the past few days?? It took many attempts to get it to load.

Anyway, on topic,... Aside from maybe right after NIU, I don't think I have been too high or too low on coach, more cautiously optimistic. Even now, when everything seems to be at their collective high point (thus far), I'm still there. I'm hopeful things have finally turned and we are heading to where we all want it soon,... however, I also know things could still turn back. Can they avoid 0-2, and/ or another wtf loss at home,... can they prove Golden wasn't the end-all of the defensive effort we saw? Can they actually carry this recruiting class to the finish line,... Can they FINALLY show this program can develop a QB. BTW, as a sides if you had asked me in 2010 what blue blood programs would struggle to develop a QB the most over the 15 years, I would not have had ND anywhere on my bingo card and I still struggle to believe we are where we are with that. Now that's definitely NOT an MF issue but he has to be a part of the fix. Things like that... Hopefully, they win 10 plus and a playoff game this year. I've lived through, 'this is it' moments numerous times in my adult life to be at least a bit cautious about it all.

Laughed so hard that there will be some who have no idea what this is in reference to and the absurdity of it lol

I could be wrong but I gotta think that we would be five years further along if BK wasn't such an ass hole. MF knows how to talk to the powers that be and charm them I'm sure to where they have no problem donating to the cause. BK on the other hand I'm sure walked into meetings expecting things to be handed to him and they flat out said kiss my ass you got what you got make it work.

I recall one of the mods predicting ND would absolutely piss pound Purdue right from the jump early that week.

They absolutely lit them up and never looked back. Louisville and SC were the only competitive games after that. The rest were absolute runaways.

We'll never know, and I'm glad for it, but the season may well have turned out different had they managed to squeak out a win against NIU. Maybe not for the better, too.

I tend to agree. Freeman used that loss as motivation all the rest of the season - to the point it got a little much at times, but in a good way.

In a 12-game regular season, you're highly likely to lose one. It's just the nature of a sport played by inconsistent 20 year olds. It's better to do so early, and - I would argue - to a team you are not competing with for playoff seeding. The trick from there is to lose just one, not two.

100%.

If you are going to slip up, do it early and it's out of people's minds. Perception and optics tend to matter, even if that isn't necessarily fair. Say they had beaten NIU but lost to FSU, UVA or Army. That season tilts in a completely different direction on levels both inside and outside of the program.

Yeah, think it was mentioned in the Website thread, but Xenforo in general has been getting slammed by bots and maybe DDoS attacks that have impacted performance. Admins have been looking into it. Fortunately it's the offseason.
