[EDIT] Guess Saban is 5'6". Not incredibly short I guess, at least by today's standards.

Googlez sayz 5'6", which is what his playing height was at Kent State. I couldn't find anything official for Kiffin, but based on the pic I'm guessing he probably is around 6'1"..ish.


Ha, just found this on Deadspin, intredasting How Tall Are Nick Saban's Shoe Inserts? Gotta wonder based on facks and evidents if he does choose to wear inserts.

I think Kiffin's O is going to light up the SEC. If you look back on SC while he was there offense was never a problem. If he had Alabama's d while he was there they would have killed pretty much everyone.

Coker is the starter no questions asked unless someone shined which they haven't this spring camp...on lame..he had decent offenses but look at the talent...he had 5*talent with c to from time to time a+ coaching

Coker's almost certainly going to be the starter. Sims is basically a running back who learned to play QB. He's dangerous in designed runs, but he's not an every down passing QB. He's improved enough that if he had to he could run the offense, but we would struggle to move the ball consistently. Unless Coker gets hurt, he'll be the starter.

We have a few guys who were highly rated recruits, but they're young and inexperienced. Bateman will be a redshirt freshman and seems to be progressing nicely. Morris will be a sophomore and is doing OK, but struggling to pick up the system and hasn't really blossomed yet. Cornwell, an EE this year, is generally regarded as our qb of the future, but is a true freshman who had a major knee injury last fall in HS. He's recovering nicely, but will almost certainly redshirt this year and probably compete for the starting job next year.

The guys who would be juniors & seniors this year didn't want to sit behind AJ for 3 or 4 years, so transferred. We're left with Sims, who is a converted RB who is dangerous on the run but an OK passer at best, and 3 or 4 talented but young & inexperienced guys who aren't ready yet. Coker is expected to just fill the gap until our young guys learn the system and get more experience.

just curious:
Is Parker McLeod still on the roster? Did he move to a new position? When you say Morris is struggling to pick-up the system, do you mean the previous offensive system or Kiffin's?

I don't know much about Coker (it doesn't appear he was highly rated or recruited) or how similar the FSU offensive system is compared to Kiffin's, what is the offensive outlook for this year? (I don't think you can read much into the spring game.)

Coker - carpet bagger 5Yr, not highly rated or recruited, playing time?, new system (Kiffin), new school
Sims - 5YR, converted running back, new system (Kiffin)
Morris - Jr, RS, playing time?, new system (Kiffin)
Bateman - So, RS, new system (Kiffin)
McLeod - So, RS, new system (Kiffin)
Cornwell - Frosh, EE, coming off knee injury,

If Cornwell does leapfrog Morris, Bateman and McLeod in 2015, kinda seems like the guys above him may pack their bags again. every situation is different, though.

I just don't get the "sure thing" attitude about Coker. He's only thrown two more passes than Sims in his college career, so he's just as inexperienced as Sims, and he'll have had even less time in Kiffin's system than the others by the time he enrolls.

Sorry, I forgot about McLeod. Yes, he's still with team at QB. As for Morris struggling to pick up the system, I didn't mean to disparage him. He may not be struggling any more with the new or old system than the others. There was just a comment made in an article that he was still trying to learn all of it. Basically, all the young QB's are just going through the typical growing pains of adjusting to a more complex system and playbook than they saw in HS, and adjusting to D1 speed. If Cornwell earns the starting spot next year, some of them may transfer. Who knows. It's certainly not a given that he'll win the job. That's just the gut feeling among most fans. Bateman is talented enough to possibly win that battle.

Sims just doesn't have what it takes to be a passing QB. He can make plays with his legs and can throw decent at times. But he will be nothing more than the backup.

Morris has a big arm, big body, but can't hit the broad side of a barn. He seems to have all the tools but his accuracy just isn't there.

Bateman is more consistent but he doesn't have the big arm needed against fast DBs.

Cornwell seems to have what it takes at this point but his knee injury has slowed him down. I can see him starting in two years if he can progress at an acceptable rate.

McLeod will be buried in the depth chart. He will probably transfer out if he wants to see any playing time.

Coker - should be the starter once he gets here. Big, big arm, and extremely consistent with huge accuracy. He can make plays with his legs and tops the scales around 245. He was probably the happiest player at the A game as he saw that his competition isn't that much. How good will he be? Hard to say as he has not seen the field too much behind Winston. Everyone raves about his talent but until he does it in a game I will withhold judgement on him. He should be ok as he won't be asked to win every game.

Why Bama can't seem to close the deal on a solid QB coming out of high school? Seems that Bama is more known for their RBs and up until Nuss took over, they struggled to get top flight WRs - Julio being the exception ( and he wasn't used like he should have been). Since Nuss opened the offense up, and now with Boy Wonder there, they should be able to get them a QB that can fit the bill. They have plenty of WR targets to throw to. Just need the right QB to sign up. Won't happen this year so looks like next year we will see what Boy Wonder can do on the trail.
