Can't help but think some of these recruits see the writing on the wall with LK. There is no way they see him being around four years.
I think it's the class he's pulled together... Even with sanctions it's one of the best in the country. If he keeps Lane one more season he at least gives the new coach some talent in the cupboard to build around. Fire Lane now and that class dissolves.
My guess is Hayden is just trying to ride out the sanctions with Kiffin and then he will bring in a coach that he wants.
Maybe, but it doesn't make sense. What is it he can do during the sanctions that another coach can't? If you're right, it's probably due to the size of the buyout in his contract.
I was thinking more along the lines that the coach he really wants might not want to come during the sanctions and have to deal with it all.
If I was Haden I would be having some serious concerns after the debacle at the Sun Bowl. Being an hour and a half Late for the luncheon sent a message to this team that he didn't want to be in ElPaso and had no regard for the organizers, the fans, etc.. His team followed lead with its embarrassing performance.
Yep. The leader always sets the tone. There is no objective way of looking at Kiffin's performance, other than recruiting, and being pleased. That said, I side with ndfi78 a couple posts above in saying that because of the reduced schollies, Haden simply may not be able to get his desired long-term solution at this time = very little depth and very little margin of error in recruiting. At least I hope that's the case... for as long as humanly possible.
NDinLA can probably shed more light, but I've heard and read a lot of stuff lately that Haden is (and will) just keeping Laney around until probation is over...then he'll drop the ban hammer on him and replace him with a real coach.
Obviously makes sense on one hand, but then again, this could just be one giant group-think platform that has emerged to rationalize why he's the football coach at usc.
That could very well be why, but my point was his Sun Bowl escapades were something that was exposed on a national level where as his problems with the press in LA are more localized so the tainted spotlight on USC wasn't as bright.
The only reason Kiffin still has a job is because of his current recruiting class and sanctions. Anything less than 10 wins next year and he is 100% for sure fired IMO.

Wasn't trying to refute your point, my man. Just adding my additional perspective. Haden can't help but be awfully concerned at this point, I would think. Kiffin is a total train wreck.
Per @Edwerderespn, Cowboys have focused their search for a defensive coordinator on longtime NFL assistant Monte Kiffin.
I know all the BK speculation has created a crisis. Just remember it could be worse. We could have Lane Kiffin as our coach.
No head coach is better than Lane Kiffin.
Want to hear a Kiffin move? Both Kiffin and Meyer called up Jaylon's trainer after the Kelly news came out. They said "since Kelly left Notre Dame, is Jaylon coming our way?".... they were both told "no" and promptly hung up on
That is very erroneous if the reader doesn't infer the ellipsis at the end of the sentence.
"No head coach is better than Lane Kiffin (for a head coach)" is how you meant it.
