Kiffin knows he is the functional OC, and that he only needs one in name...and one who will stay to add consistency and credibility on the recruiting trail for a perennial stepping stone gig. He needs a guy no one else wants. If CW junior can recruit....this is smart.
It basically avoids dealing with having that coordinator poached for as long as kiffy will be there. If he can keep some level of consistency on defense, he'll kill people for as long as he wants to stay down there.

Great opportunity for Junior to just shut up, and let 'em think its you while you learn.
