Today Jimmy Haslam said the Browns top priority in the offseason was finding a quarterback... Smh. THEY HAD ONE,... With Teddy Bridgewater, and passed on him for this clown... Now Bridgewater looks like a future superstar and Manziel is a year away from being out of the league... Things I could have told them LAST YEAR.

Freakin Browns.
As a Vikings fan I want to thank the Browns organization for being inept.

They could have had Watkins too!!! Knowing their star wide receiver was also an ass clown... Now it looks like he may be gonzo... And they passed on Watkins for some DB no one had ever heard of who was disappointing... The Browns have taken multiple drafts in which they had multiple first round picks and just shat all over them... What could have freakin been... Watch they'll find some way to blow this years draft too...

The New Browns' biggest mistake was not bringing Ozzie Newsome back to Cleveland, by whatever means necessary. Look at the job he has done in Baltimore.

As much as I dislike Manziel the person, I thought he might straighten out now that he's not playing school. I still think he can be a *serviceable* NFL QB. But after reading about how the veterans responded to Connor Shaw playing through a broken finger and some busted ribs after Manziel tweaked a hammy and missed treatment, his short window may have already passed.

I can't wait to watch the team that drafts the dumpster fire that is Jamies Winston. Could Cleveland somehow find a way to do this to themselves again?

I was on record saying JFF would be a tire fire with almost zero shot at being a legit NFL QB well before the draft last year... Put me on record here...

I don't like the guy, but for an actual shot at a real franchise QB, I'd take Winston in a heartbeat.

Talent-wise, yes. But a QB is soooooooo much more to a team that just a talent. I look at Jameis and a see a more polished Vince Young. But like Johnny and Young and Cam and Vick, I don't see a guy who is a team-first, bust my ass to learn the playbook, watch film until I pass out kinda guy. All their lives these guys have gotten by on their God-given ability, and when they get to the NFL they eventually realize that it takes so much more than that. Even Vick, who lit the league up at first, realized that in order to win at the highest level he had to put more film study in (by then it was too late...I guess you can't teach a dog new tricks).

Maybe Jameis will work hard. I agree with you that he is the most NFL-ready. But man, I just don't trust him to stay out of trouble and to be a true leader. Brady, Wilson, Manning, Brees, Rodgers...those guys not only have the talent but they have the respect of their teammates, and you never hear about them in trouble off-the-field. There's a reason they win Super Bowls and more talented guys like Vince Young are out of the league.

Rant over...I actually root for underdogs and so it pissed me off when the Browns drafted Johnny. Like you I said before the draft that no one should take him in the first 2 days. And Johnny with no chip on his shoulder gave you guys exactly what we thought he'd give you - even worse actually smdh.

Way i see it, on the ability to play in the league alone, they're TOTALLY different players:

I get all the side show stuff with both, and I dislike both, but...

I saw JFF and I saw a spoiled punk with no work ethic, bad footwork and funky fundamentals who got away with playing street ball in college. I saw no real way he could excel in the NFL and thus drafting him was a total short sighted, jersey sales driven, waste.

I see Winston and I see a bad guy with good footwork and fundamentals who steps up in the pocket and makes NFL throws. I don't like him and it wouldn't shock me if he's a bust, but I wouldn't be upset if the Browns draft him, he has a legit chance to be a player, good guy or not he's worth a high pick if you're desperate for that potential franchise QB.

I'm with LA here, I wouldn't want Winston. How many ridiculously good college players have we seen go into the league and succeed? He couldn't keep his nose clean with an entire town's PD doing everything in their power to hide his indiscretions. All with his university beating the drum for it. What do you think will happen when you give this kid millions of dollars and access to the best party scenes available on the planet?

Do you think his reaction will be to vigorously digest complex playbooks for over a decade like Manning? Do you think that he will be the very first guy to the stadium and last guy to leave every single day like Brady? What about wait and learn under a legend, learning while keeping a level head like Rodgers?

This kid is the same mold mentally as guys like JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf. Guys that were also seen as "can't miss" players. But the NFL is not kind to QBs with subpar mind and dedication. It won't be kind to Winston.

I was going to say I couldn't believe Cleveland would draft JFF...but then I remember it's Cleveland. Cleveland is the reason I stopped watching most NFL games, growing up about an hour from the "Mistake by the Lake." Now I live closer to Cincinnati...fuck my Pro teams.

It's like Deja Vu...Cleveland is looking for a QB still. I honestly wonder what would have happened if they developed Quinn. He was mature, had a good work ethic, had the necessary tools and football IQ. Most of his career he was put in shitty situations or behind a shitty OL. I think he could have worked if Cleveland wasn't a QB Roulette.

Seriously though, does any of this surprise you? The Browns are the poster child for bad draft picks. It's not like them doing this was a surprise or out of the norm for them.

I think you're both way off base with the bolded. Winston's work ethic, film study, football IQ, commitment to the game, leadership, etc, has never been questioned by anyone. He's been praised by many people for these aspects of his profile. He's going to blow away front office personnel during X and O portions of pre-draft interviews. He's cut from the same cloth as all the top NFL QBs you guys listed.

Where you're both spot on is the maturity concerns. There's just no defense for the list of incidents he's been involved in...BB gun battle with friends that causes thousands in property damage, stealing soda from BK, stealing crab legs, jumping on a table and yelling FHRITP on campus with a bunch of people around. He was also accused of rape (I don't think he's a rapist) and signing autographs (wouldn't surprise me). Just some really bad decisions that illustrate a severe lack of maturity.

I think he's going to have million$ of reasons to clean up his act and make better decisions, but I completely understand why anyone would doubt that. There's going to be NFL teams that take him off of their board. If I were the Browns, I'd cut ties with JF and do whatever I needed to do to get Jameis. IF he grows up, he's a franchise QB.

I still say McCoy and Couch were never given enough time either... Oh well... Watching Brady in the pros was crazy, I have no clue what happened to his accuracy once he got to the NFL, he just suddenly lost his ability to make throws.

No, but you'd think they'd get lucky despite themselves once in a while...

We didn't question his current commitment, but the level of commitment guys like Brady, Manning and Rodgers is something that different than just being able to chalkboard up plays or prepare for a college game.

QB's of his mindset and maturity simply never pan out. He could be the greatest QB to ever play and I still wouldn't believe that he could adapt to the mental part of being an NFL QB. There is no prescedent for it. He would be breaking the mold of everything we know about what make a great NFL QB. I simply don't see it.

And as far as the young QB's in the league you can add Luck to that mix. One of the key things to look at, is background. I don't remember any of these guys getting into trouble and creating a questionable history of themselves while in college. If you don't have the right attitude and commitment in college, you probably won't have it in the pros. I would liken Winston closer to Cam Newton. Imagine how good he could be if he put in the extra work?

Couch, maybe, but if I recall he struggled for the same reasons that many Cleveland QBs struggled in the early days, I think he had a poor OL.

McCoy may have made it if they spent more time grooming him, I don't know. I question his fortitude honestly. When he went down with that mysterious injury in the championship against 'Bama, he didn't appear to be that injured. I often wondered if he sat the game out with an "injury" because he realized his draft stock might take a hit if he played and they lost. It was just one game, and maybe he was more injured than he let on, but I think he could have played.
