I can see your point, but maybe it's because of the context? The one point in BlueHen's post specifically identifies impressive "skill players", so that would limit who was included. Bear in mind too that the defense is adjusting to a new scheme/DC, so the offense is probably a good deal ahead at this point.

But then again, maybe we are both reading into this way too much LOL.

Also keep in mind this is based on 2 practices with no pads and no hitting. I personally think the defense will be fine. Not gonna be like 2012 but I also think we cause a good amount more tunrovers than last year and be more dynamic. Key to any 43 man cover defense is pressure and I think we have some guys that will be able to provide that. Question is gonna be whether we have any reserves that will be able to come with some pressure. That probably won't be known under the season is underway. Also think BVG will find a way to set Jaylon loose and he will have more of an impact on the pass rush. Just my 2 cents.

How much time has been spent on defense in the roughly four hours of practice so far this Spring? *

* I use the term "Spring" very figuratively, because we are in the grips of a terrible winter, still, obviously. This winter sucks, badly!

Do you mean of actual practice time? Because if so, the answer is the same as the offense. While the offense is running skeletal drills (which we see on tape) the defense doesn't just stand there and watch. I'll add that if what your eluding to is they haven't had much time to get things down, then I would agree with those that have already stated. The expectation shouldn't be that in practice 2 or 3 we are going to be running on all cylinders.

What I am getting at is, are they actually installing BVG defense or are they just putting people out there to take up space, and see how they do. All of this could be a couple different things. One could be that they are installing BVG's defense and want to keep it under wraps. Or another could be that beyond drills, all of the scrimmage time has been for offensive timing, so far. In either of these cases I wouldn't expect to see much about the defense. Bottom line, who knows? If someone does, inform us. Thanks on the part of the band and myself, I hope we have passed the audition.

He was actually very impressive last year during fall ball and started the year with some good runs. However, he had some bonehead mistakes that cost him playing time. He seemed to lose confidence after that.

He was GREAT in the Michigan game. People forget that because we lost. Amir was the bright spot in that game. I don't know what happened as the year went on but he did seem to lose confidence.

I am pretty sure I saw the lights go off once he was pulled from the Purdue game for the fumble ( I think it was the Purdue game, early on heading into the endzone??). He never really had much confidence after that.

That being said he looks much more massive is Spring Practice. I am really excited about our skill positions this year.

Obviously I'm not there, but I have to believe they are putting in BVG's D and not just putting bodies out there. You have a limited time to learn a new D so you better start as soon as you can. Some players will get it right away and others not so much, so they need all the time they can get.

from experience -- you are absolutely putting in a defense. The difference between why you see offense and not defense, much of the implementing of D is a walk through -- that amounts to a chalk talk essentially, not very exciting. The drills you run are mostly with bags and deal with technique rather than actually "running plays". The equivilent of the pass skel you see on offense is 11 guys line up on D, the coach points a direction or simulates pass/run, and the guys on D run as if they are do their coverage/fits.. again not very exciting. Until you get pads on and you can start hitting each other, offense will be the main attraction

Yup. It's pretty bland. A lot of drills/technique work. The scout team would also run scripted plays and usually not full speed.

So then we are less likely to see defensive "stuff" worthy of note until later in the spring practices.

Really loaded INTEL this week by Mike Frank's staff.

Coaches are changing recruiting territories to focus on elite prospects on their side of the ball.

Harry to the Northeast.
Cram it in your cram hole Lefleur to California.
Denbrock to the Midwest.
Stache to north Florida and Georgia.

Look for Adam Solomon to be the tackle added to this class. Could earn an offer this summer. Staff really likes him. Expected to accept immediately.

Cornell could be a part of his schools tour through the Midwest. They will make a stop at ND.

Damien Harris gets a lot of ND attention and doesnt respond. Not likely here.

Staff feels like they have a real shot at Soso and Patrick.

Chris Clark has work to do in the classroom.

ND is looking to take three cornerbacks this year.

Many expect Boykin to commit this summer.

You don't even need to read between the lines, do you? We are attacking the SEC, our own Catholic jihad, led by the stache! I kid.

Where will Alford, Brooks, and Cook recruit. Will Alford and Brooks go for offensive players and BVG for defensive only? Will Cook stay in Texas?

kid goes to a private school in CT with most likely ridiculous tuition fees and hes "got work to do in the classroom"?

That is probably why. I questioned why he left Bosco, and they said it wasn't a family move, etc.

Also, what does "Cram it in your cram hole Lefleur to California", mean in the context of this post?

Alford stays in Florida no doubt.

Cooks in Texas.

Booker to still recruit same area. Just gave some up to BVG.

Is he a PG? I went to a prep school similar to Avon and most of the PGs were there specifically to improve academic deficiencies.

It's a movie quote from Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

I'm going to be slightly critical here. Those changes don't really have much to do with coaches moving so we they can recruit elite players on their side of the ball. Our best offensive weapons are not in the Midwest. Denbrock is moving so he is closer to the home base when the season starts. He's the OC now and can't be on the road as much. They are putting BVG down south to overlap with Booker and Alford because once again he won't be on the road as much. Lastly Heistand in the northeast to recruit elite OL when we expect our last OL to be Solomon when he isn't in the NE? I like the moves don't get me wrong but the reasoning doesn't make sense.

Why can I never remember that movie? I have a couple of kids and a couple of friend that loved it; but until I saw that video, I couldn't remember that Vaughn and Stiller were in it!

So then there was not particular meaning to the whole statement, other than La Fleur was going to take over Cali?

Postscript : More my type of movie --- Goon

I would imagine, with players of that level he will still be very much involved in their recruitment.

He has a lot of ties down south from being at Auburn and GA. Look at what Dee ford said about him this week or last.
