This is what makes the most sense. If JS is not in on it he should have had a statement out by now.

There was a time when ND offered General Studies as a degreed track within Arts and Letters. It was recognized as one of the toughest. So was American Studies. Both majors had students jumping from discipline to discipline within A&L's without the benefit of lower level courses as "prep."

I was an American Studies Major (though I had intended to be a Communication Arts major – but it was pulled as a degree track as I declared it) and I had a number of friends in General Studies. They are some of the brightest guys I met there. We shared the bond of often feeling that we were in over our heads and often banded together in informal study groups to get through.

I am in no way comparing ND's General Studies to those of Football Factories that compile a number of fluff courses to ensure that academically sub-par athletes can remain eligible.

This is why I laugh at those who claim they have inside sources that post cryptic messages like good news coming or something like that. They literally know no more 90% of the time than the average subscriber to a pay site. Literally it doesn't take a genius to figure out that Kelly is going to get an extension and it is going to happen either today or the next couple days. If they are wrong all they say is well something unexpected fell through in the talks, and when they are right, they will go told you so.
