1. GREAT defensive effort today! Held the #1 rushing team, from last year, and so far this year, to well below their average.

2. "Too Slow" Joe Schmidt led the team with 10 tackles, and that wasn't a fluke. He played a good game, and had no problems getting to his assignment on time. Jaylon Smith continues to be Jaylon Smith, and that is always something special.

3. TERRIBLE injury for Drue Tranquill. Hopefully it isn't as bad as it sounded. He was wailing immediately after going down, so you know that he thought it was really bad.

4. This coaching staff obviously can't develop players. Look at the recruiting classes that we have had, compared to other schools that are doing more with less! CJ Prosise is a great example of that. Whoever had the idea to move him to Tailback should be fired!!

5. Kizer Soze looked pretty good............. for his first start. But he is going to have to improve quite a bit, if ND is going to make a playoff run. We'll need him to play very well against Clemson and USC.

6. Despite all of the positives, there were WAY too many penalties. I have to assume that Ronnie Stanley was listening to too much cranked up heavy metal music, and had some short term hearing damage. 3 false starts in just over a quarter? Not good. 8 penalties, total, for the team.

My game ball is going to Kizer Soze, for hitting a home run in his first pressure at-bat. But you could hand out a dozen game balls after this one.

I said that the I was scared of what defense showed up. Well I am pleased to see that the defense came ready to play.

Kiser looks OK needs to improve though.
Fuller is amazing
CJ Is much better of a back then I thought he would be.
We won against the option and even though the score didn't reflect it it was as close as the scoreboard said.

The o-line wasn't overly impressive.
The play calling in the red zone is head scratching at times.
Our special teams will never be good under Kelly.
The penalties are the inexcusable.

I think a lot of that has to do with communication. In this offense, the QB makes most of the hot reads. It will get better as they get more reps with Kizer.

UND.com is taking a lot longer this year to post BK's press conferences. I hate hearing injury reports and such from other sources.

But if you convert the 2pt conversion then a hail mary doesn't even help you. That's the point.

But...........

if you convert the 2pt conversion, to go up by 24; after GT scores their 2nd TD, they go for 2. And, considering our defense was already lined up in front of the student section to sing the alma mater at that point, the odds are good that they make it, leaving them only 8 points behind.

Drinking game next week fellas: every time Flutie refers to some player "sticking his nose in there" or some derivative thereof, you take a shot. I.E. goes silent before the end of the second quarter.

or "having a game," as in "Tranquill is really having a game out there."

und.com is not allowed to air BK's post game presser live, if NBC or any other television broadcaster with rights to the game is playing it. I miss the days when und.com broadcast the post game show with Jack, Mirko, and Reggie; and the post game pressers were part of the show. That was the greatest ND post game show I have ever seen.

I was thinking the same thing. Everyone going to talk about it being a "close win" and "not blowing anyone out" instead of it being a 30-7 throttling.

We're GT fans from this point on. The good analysts will know how this game truly went.

Kmoose is headed into work so I took the liberty of starting the post game thread.

What a win! Gotta come away from that feeling pretty good.

PROS:

-Kizer looked solid.

-CJ was phenomenal

-The defense was HUGE

CONS:

-Oline left a bit to be desired

-Feel awful Drue went down.

Overall, pretty good day for ND heading into UMass week. The garbage touchdown is kind of annoying. 30-7 looks a lot better than 30-22.

Go Irish!

EDIT: I guess with :45 seconds left, making this was premature. GTech recovers an onside

EDIT: This is just embarrassing... Mods please delete

Defense

OK the defense was stunning...literally no one does that to GAtech. I will say Navy's line will be harder to deal with because they are lower, and cut more ferociously...but the play of the Dline and 2nd level pursuit was just WOW. As good as I've seen against the option in 15 years. Some body better give Bobby some love. They were prepared.

My only concern is pass defense. When it is a known passing situation...its like the ND secondary does better when they don't know its coming.

Offense

Kizer was nice. Not sure the INT was on him...I don't know how they teach the end zone fade but the kid put the thing on the Pilon and CR was stuck inside...bad deal, but turned out to be not such a deal.

Chris Brown woke up...but I bet he heard me after his two early drops...:)

CJ for Heisman...

Will the Thrill...no one else like him.

Little Tight end worked in today...nice.

Oline...tons of effort, although some let downs, and the all world Tackle needs some tough love...that was not good. Yea I get new QB issues...you telling me he didn't figure it out last week in practice? After you jump once, you kind re-calibrate...3 times...COME ON SON!

It was a decisive W the score does not do justice to...

I've never had to be this guy (luckily) because I haven't missed a game in 10 years, but the DVR didn't take and I don't know where to find a replay of the game. Any help, fellas?

Thanks. Go Irish!

Defense was rocking for 59 minutes.
C.J. is a beast.
Kizer looked good and should improve with more snaps.
The offensive line still doesn't impose it's will enough. 3rd short shouldn't be so difficult to convert.
BK and BvG earned their checks this week.

One thing I wanted to point out again was that we really needed to go for 2 to go up 17. Every chart I see online says go for 2 and I really don't see why you wouldn't. Georgia Tech would not have had a chance if we had converted 2 points. Instead they were an onside kick away from a hail mary to tie it.

Good point. I was screaming for 2 when we kicked the PAT to go up 23 - 7. I was thinking going for 2 would have made it 2 TD's and a FG to tie. Instead at that point 2 TD's and a FG would have won it.

Gotta get more Josh Adams action. C.J. needs a break - What a beast.

Paul Johnson vs. BVG. Is this settled now? BVG was right. The scheme is a gimmick. Good, disciplined defenses create too many problems and if you get up having a QB that has an arm worse than Taylor Martinez, isn't going to cut it.

The game will be on YouTube within a day or two, but doubtfully tonight.

The first 2 games have been posted on youtube. Unfortunately it has taken roughly 4 or 5 days for the upload. I would wait until Wed or Thurs and then google "Notre Dame Georgia Tech 2015" and it should pop up. Sorry I don't know of a more immediate option.

Friendly tip: Stop watching with a minute to go in the 4th quarter.

Edit: ACamp beat me to it.

Offense is a gimmick??? It has been destroying teams.. Miss St included... Give credit to ND defense who dominated.... The team played extremely well....

I thought G Tech would win the ACC and I am hoping I am right... if we drop a game and go 11-1.. Beating the ACC champ will look great on the resume.. also hoping Texas can pull out a 8-4, playing TCU and Baylor tough

Pros:
*Pretty dominating performance, particularly on defense. ND was clearly the better team
*Best defense I've seen us play against triple option...ever. Jaylon and Joe Schmidt are phenomenal.
*Great penetration on defense getting to their quarterback
*Offensive playbook simplified
*Offensive line and pass protection was solid
*CJ Sanders might be our best punt return option since Golden Tate
*Fuller for Heisman might start gaining traction. That 3rd down leaping catch in the 2nd quarter was a huge play in the game.
*Chris Brown finished the game really strong after an awful start
*Farley with the forced fumble right after halftime was huge.

Cons:
*Way too many false starts
*I don't trust Yoon in a big spot. Nice to see him make that fg in the 3rd quarter though
*I feel like we have so many weapons on offense that never get used (Tori Hunter, Corey Robinson, Carlise, ESB)
*Alize Jones is a major disappointment so far but still early in his career
*Tranquill's injury. We're not just getting injuries...we're weekly getting 1-2 season ending injuries.
*Absolutely hated Kelly calling timeouts in the first half to get the ball back. Maybe i do that if Zaire was the QB....but with Yoon shaky and a rookie QB i'd take 13-7 at the half any day instead of expecting him to run the 2-minute drill.
*I just get the feeling Kelly doesn't have too much confidence in Kizer. Maybe that's just an indication of how good Zaire was in camp.
*Why do i have a feeling at the end of the year 30-22 vs. 30-7 might make a difference to the ignorant college football analysts who didn't watch this game.

Really? I mean he's a true freshman. Had a few catches today.

30-7 looks better but I thought they were letting GTech score so they could get Rudy into the game at QB.....

*EDIT: I mean Wimbush

Agreed. No reason to throw Alize under the bus. He's a trush frosh TE and he's learning on the fly. His mistakes haven't cost us a game so we can chalk it up to the learning experience. I'm most hesitant to call out true frosh.

My Post Game Thoughts:

1: That was a clinic on how to defend the option. Period!

2. Players who had the QB assignment played awesome. The let the play come to them and didn't get juked.

3. Coach Ken at NAVY should be very nervous. ND took away the FB, QB, And HB on almost every play.

4. Offensive Line needs to stop reading the press. They are good but the penalties make them look like $hit!!!!

Which means we'll give up at least 250+ to Navy.

My post game thoughts :

My special guest poster, The Rock, (see Georgia Tech game thread) called this game perfectly. We took their option offense, turned that son-bitch sideways, and stuck it up their candy asses!!!
