is there a link for this rumor by sampson or is it behind paywall?
I'm disappointed to hear that. You need to have more pride in your home fanbase. You can certainly find more passionate fans. They reside in the 4th Phase! Green Bay sucks!
I'd love a SS game in...
-Nashville against Tennessee
-Seattle against Washington
-Charlotte against South Carolina
-Philadelphia against Penn State
-New Orleans against Texas A&M
What about Maryland in Maryland or BC in Boston?NBC has the TV rights for SS games while BIG, SEC, PAC, etc have their own TV coverage contracts within the states covered by their conference membership. NBC TV rights dictate that the other team has too play in a city outside their conference limits making WIS in GB or Milwaukee not possible.
How about Illinois at the old Rams stadium in St Louis?
or:
Vandy / UK in Cincy?
PSU, WVU or Cincinnati in Cleveland.
Cincinnati, Illinois, UK, Mizzou in Indy
Minnesota or Iowa at Lambeau
Mizzou or Iowa at Soldier Field.
Sorry Detroit, no soup for you.
You want to control the crowds. ND folks being the filthy capitalists they are would sell out and it would be a sea of red.
Did Nebraska teach you nothing?!
You wanna play Wisco, do it in Soldier Field or Indy.
You really have this thing for playing in NFL stadiums. God forbid that we should play college football games on a college campus.
How about one game in Madison and one game in South Bend? I couldn't care less about playing in NFL stadiums.
How about a game in Gary, IN against the inmates from the IN State Penitentiary?
If you're going to play the guessing game, at least get creative.

I'd love to see ND play a game in Hampton Roads, but I can't think of a venue that's big enough. Every year there is a ton of talent that comes out of that area and this is the first year I can recall that we've gotten a verbal from a stud from there.
Are you missing the point of the Shamrock Series, or do you just have disdain for it?
I realize I'm in the minority, but I do have disdain for it. I think college football should be played in college football stadiums. If someone is so enamored with NFL stadiums, then go follow the NFL.
Like our recruits and current players?
Do they really? A half-empty MetLife Stadium seems way shittier than a full Yale Bowl.Like our recruits and current players?
So therefore we should not play games in ND stadium and only play in Soldier Field or Lucas Oil because that what the recruits and players want? This is college football. It's not the NFL.

To be clear, I wasn't objecting to the Shamrock Series in general. I think it does a lot of good for both the program and the university. I just don't necessarily embrace the "NFL stadiums are objectively superior" argument.Swarbrick's a lot smarter than either of us, and he's convinced the Shamrock Series offers lots of unique benefits to NDFB.

1. "Half full" is a euphemism for "visibly not a sellout because you see loads of empty seats." All I know is that the only Shamrock Series games that have been sellouts have been in baseball stadiums. Huge empty sections in the corners of AT&T Stadium or Lucas Oil Stadium are a bad look for a prime time game. I'd argue that the look is bad enough that it does more damage to the brand via TV than it does benefit the brand via the experience of players and recruits inside the stadium.I hate to pick on you but are you really forecasting 41,000ish for the Syracuse game?
If not, what do you expect the attendance to be?
You do know that the recruits and current players are the ones who actually play the football game?
You sound like the mom from The Waterboy.

Yeah, that didn't work out so well did it?
Did you guys read the post I was responding to? BGIF implied that Notre Dame can't play an NBC home game in the geographical boundaries of one of the major conferences against an opponent from that conference. I used the Maryland game and the BC game as examples of why I don't believe his position to be accurate. Based on his framework, NBC shouldn't have been able to broadcast ACC teams in Maryland or Massachusetts.no thanks to playing Maryland at FedEx field...been there done that.

2. Notre Dame - Syracuse is not a Shamrock Series game. The stadium will likely be quite full because both Notre Dame and Syracuse have huge followings in New York. The problem arises when there's a neutral site game where neither school have a huge following in the city.
Do you even talk casual bro? MetLife was a placeholder for "insert generic NFL stadium here" just like the Yale Bowl was a placeholder for "insert generic historical college stadium here." I have no problem with NFL stadiums as long as we can fill them. Whiskeyjack seemed to be implying (though he's since clarified that it's not what he meant) that our players and recruits like games in NFL stadiums, full stop. The only point I was making is that the value of playing in an NFL stadium starts to erode if it's a poor gameday experience due to low turnout or poor fan enthusiasm.Dude, you brought up Metlife. Not me. You brought it up in reference to our players playing in pro stadiums, not just SS games in pro stadiums.
People were throwing out loads of hypothetical opponents in loads of different cities. All I know is that we didn't fill the Alamodome the first time, we didn't fill FedEx Field (against Maryland!), we didn't fill AT&T Stadium, and we didn't fill Lucas Oil Stadium (against Purdue!).Who were you referring to playing in a half empty Metlife? Hofstra?
