Don't see the point in scheduling MAC teams tbh, i thought after ND played WMU a few years back Swarbrick said they would never schedule another

Coach Martin and an easy win. It's an A+ move.

I agree. I like it.

It's nice to schedule a cupcake or two early in the season, and we like to schedule schools that have similarities to ND, whether it's academic rigor (Rice this year) or religious affiliation (BYU last year -- I mean, it's a different religion, but ND and BYU are alike in the general sense that they are both religious schools) or high conduct standards (the service academies). Miami bills itself as a "public Ivy," which is flattering itself a tiny bit IMO but regardless the school has great academics, and I'm sure that has something to do with our interest in playing them.

There is such a thing as loyalty for a friend. Coach and Coach Martin are long time friends, and this does a service to Miami-O. Everything isn't just about cold calculations. Good move Coach and Jack Swarbrick! Gets us closer to the ideal "7-at-home" scheduling too.

Since we're on the topic of future schedules. Our two biggest home games next year are Texas (September 5th) and USC (October 17th). I'm going to assume that Notre Dame and NBC will decide between these two games for next year's night game. Personally, I hope they pick the UT game as the night game; we've already played USC twice at night and Notre Dame vs Texas is a huge game to start the season

Legends trophy back in the Gug. Not often that we get all the rivalry trophies in there these days.

Other than 2012, when was the last time we had all of them in there?

Does anyone really believe that Coach Martin will be there still in '17?
I don't think it's unlikely. Miami will take time to rebuild, and Martin can't tank the program any further into the ground. It's only a few years from now, the current freshmen will be seniors.

If ND is going to play a MAC school, this is the only school with the history and class to schedule.

Go Redskins! May you finish 13-1 in 2017 and beat Michigan in the Little Cesar's Bowl or what ever it's called.

Love and honor to Miami, Forever and a day.

Just got done watching "Onward Notre Dame: ND in Indy" that was on from 7pm to 8pm on the NBCSports cable channel.

Documentary primarily about the Shamrock Series game in Indy. Main topics revolved around the Under Armour design of the uniforms, Sheldon Day and Nick Martin going home to Indy, Drue Tranquill having to step in and play safety, Austin Collinsworth leadership, Kyle McCarthy.

Excellent piece, the common theme was how this team is truly a family and they aren't there for individual glory, but to do whatever they can for the team so that they all succeed.

Cable guide shows that it's going to be rebroadcast on Sunday from 10:30pm to 11:30pm in my area.

For those in other time zones, you may be able to catch the airing this evening, not sure. Definitely an hour well spent.

I looked at who has a better or equal record over this time:

Florida State: 28-2
Bama: 27-3
Oregon: 27-3
Ohio State: 27-3
Louisville: 26-4
Northern Illinois: 26-4
Oklahoma: 25-5

Other notables:
Stanford: 24-6
A&M: 24-6
South Carolina: 24-6
Clemson: 24-6
Michigan State: 23-7
Nebraska: 23-7
LSU: 23-7
Baylor: 23-7
Central Florida: 23-7
Georgia: 22-8
UCLA: 22-8
Kansas State: 22-8
Cincy: 22-8
Oklahoma State: 21-9
East Carolina: 21-9
Arizona State: 20-10
Missouri: 20-10
BYU: 20-10
Auburn: 19-11
Wisconsin: 19-11
Penn State: 19-11
Duke: 19-11
Miami: 19-11
USC: 19-11
Washington: 19-11
Oregon State: 19-11
Texas: 19-11
Florida: 18-12
Virginia Tech: 17-13
Michigan: 16-14
Tennessee: 13-17

So now ND is 26-5 while Bama and Oregon fall to 27-4, Oklahoma falls to 25-6 and Stanford and A&M fall to 24-7. Not too bad.

Since the odds of ND achieving at least 8 wins this season is very high, Kelly is on track for historical greatness. That's no mean feat in South Bend.

Not even close? I think we can hang with anyone in the country this year. But obviously we won't have a measuring stick for that until October 18th.

So, Vegas has us #7 in their power poll. This essentially shows where all teams would be ranked on a neutral-site field.

Week 7 Winners and Losers | FOX Sports

Really, the only teams that actually scare me are FSU, Auburn, Bama, Baylor, and Oregon. I think we easily have just as much talent as Ole Miss or Miss State.

Baylor is garbage. Their "high powered" offense threw for less than 200 yards against a terrible Texas team.

They haven't played anyone either. That non conference schedule was garbage.
