Fuck Michigan!

We seriously should have kept the series cancelled after 2014, win in 2018 aside. We don't need them in our schedule, but with the drop off of Michigan State they've really only got tOSU as a good opponent on their schedule with the occasional Penn State. Therefore, they need us more than we need them.

That's gone. They've won 11 three of the past 4 years and their stinker was 9 wins. They're back like Jordan.

Can't find a ND Rivalry thread, so

Notre Dame Football’s Opponents Ranked by Rivalry: Literally All of Them
By Eric Murtaugh, 18 stripes

Gotta disagree with the ranking a bit. Michigan is not our biggest rival, they are firmly #2. We haven't played them nearly as much as USC, even if USC has been a bit of a dumpster fire off and on since Cheatey Petey left. There may be more hatred towards Michigan, but that makes them an enemy, not the top rival. USC has been far more competitive season to season than Michigan too, which adds to the rivalry.

They also put Northwestern in the "Lots of Games, Little Rivalry," but I would say if we have a 10th rival, they're probably the closest. There's been 50+ games in that series, and while it hasn't always been competitive neither has Purdue or Navy. Northwestern certainly has risen to a decent level in recent years, they're a local school, and there's an academic presence that closely matches our own. For those reasons, I would have put them just below Purdue at #10.

ND should play Purdue and MSU regularly. They stood up to the B1G and played ND.

I think they should share an alternating spot every year.

We should definitely have at least one in-state rivalry game every year. I don't care if it's Purdue, IU, or Ball St. Or hell, rotate the three and share one trophy among them.

I've always wanted a rotation of IU and PU. I'd be fine with IU/PU/BS rotation for an Indiana trophy though. Do it in LOS and have the other 2 teams play the same day too.

I'm less about tradition than some, but my perfect yearly schedule would be....

5xACC
1x IN (PU/IU/BS rotation) in LOS every year
1x AAC/IND/MAC/MWC rotation (all home games)
1x Nav/AF rotation (home and home + INTL every 3rd year)
1x USC/Stan rotation (home and home)
1x SEC (home and home or dome and dome)
1x Big10 - non IU/PU (home and home or dome and dome)
1x B12/PAC (non USC/Stan) rotation (home and home or dome and dome)

13th during CC week - BYU/Army rotation (Home and Home + Hawaii every 3rd yr)

And I'd do my best given the above to play at least every other year in FL, TX, Cali, and hit GA, LA, Bama, NC, SC, TN, Miss, and OH once every 4-5 years.

We can add the Sun Belt into the AAC/IND/MAC/MWC rotation lol...
That would help check off some of the SE states and TX :)

I need help from you season ticket holders regarding the 2020 season. Me & 3 buddies put a deposit down on a house to stay at for the opening weekend vs Arkansas.

The company said that if the game is canceled ,we would get our deposit refunded which is cool. Now it looks like there may be a third option in moving forward w/ the schedule but at a much smaller capacity.

This got me thinking of my options if say only 20,000 tickets are made available. I’d likely be shit out of luck in obtaining four tickets (I suspect the secondary market prices would be ridiculous). And then would the renter simply say “sorry, the game wasn’t canceled...no refund”?

So I’m trying to get a contingency plan and wanted to see if any of you had received any insight as to 2020 home game tickets yet? I suspect they haven’t communicated anything since ND has yet to announce their plans but thought I’d put in a request to you folks so you could alert me when you were notified of the final decision by ND regarding tickets.

Thx

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've been left in the dark so far. My April and May season ticket payments have been pushed back to July and August. But when I find out, I'll let you know.

Already sent in payment for a pair of season tix. I have connections for another 4, but those haven't required payment yet. Once the dust settles, I may be able to assist you.

We made our fist payment (May), as mentioned some payments are pushed back (our June payment will now be July)
My buddy called the ticket off last week and they told him if you have signed up for season tickets and have made payments you are OK.
If you would like a refund they will issue them or if the make the call with no fans at all (highly doubtful as things look right now).
So from what it sounds like students, faculty and season ticket holders will be able to go to games. single game tickets will not be sold.
Not sure how they're going to handle visitor tickets. I would assume those are a no-go as well.

I'm hearing the same as you outlined. If fans allowed, priority is 1. Students 2. Faculty/Staff 3. Season Ticket Holders 4. Single game tix sold to Season Ticket holders 5. All other seats
With anticipated spacing that will be mandated, looking at 38K-44K total fans. I've renewed 2 season tix already, and waiting for notice to renew 4 Faculty.

Notre Dame president sees 'no way currently' Irish can fill football stadium without physical distancing
Crowds are easily one of the biggest factors in how the 2020 college football season will look
Ben Kercheval CBSSports 11 hrs ago

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/notre-dame-president-sees-no-way-currently-irish-can-fill-football-stadium-without-physical-distancing/

...

Father John Jenkins, president of Notre Dame, offered his thoughts in an opinion piece published via the New York Times. In it, Jenkins ponders not just the scientific questions of returning to normalcy in the COVID-19 outbreak, but the moral questions as well. How the Irish would hold home football games in a nearly 80,000-seat stadium is among them. In short, Jenkins explains there's no way to have crowds at Notre Dame Stadium without being able to enforce physical distancing.

Athletic competition presents another set of challenges. We believe we can, with aggressive testing, hygiene and careful monitoring, keep student-athletes safe. Indeed, keeping healthy relatively small cadres of student-athletes, coaches and support staff members is a less daunting challenge than keeping safe the several thousand other people in the campus community.

Fans in the stadium, however, are a different matter. Fighting Irish fans regularly fill Notre Dame Stadium's 80,000 seats. I see no way currently to allow spectators unless we restrict admissions so that physical distancing is possible.

As a football independent tied to a scheduling contract with the ACC, Notre Dame could be in a hard spot regardless if the 2020 season is anything less than uniform. The Fighting Irish have a schedule with games from California to Pennsylvania. Every state has its own guidelines for handling the pandemic, and every school has to make up its own mind about what is best.

But as far as attendance goes, Jenkins' opinion is shared by several others in the college athletics community. Testing, tracing and other best practices are more manageable -- though certainly not easy given what we already know about how the coronavirus spreads -- if the group is capped to college athletes, coaches, staff and the like. That doesn't mean there won't be another outbreak of cases within that group, but containment might be possible.

even further on number 3 - Season ticket holders. It sounded like there may be tiers within this category. Donors/Alumni, Historical Ticket Holders, and New Ticket holders for example.

IMO, that's going to be the PR approach at the moment. We're still a few months out in regards to making a definitive decisions regarding fan sizes in the stands. If we continue to see a decline in hospitalizations going into summer and on campus training goes well (i.e. no major outbreaks) then there will be fans in the stands.
At what number will be the fluid, I can see where Sept will be limited (students, faculty, season ticket holders) by Nov season games tickets may be sold.
So lets say Sept 30% capacity, Oct 40%, November 50%, something along those lines.
I do not have the exact figures for season ticket holders so my capacity percentages are guesses, but the concept of an increasing fan size is the main point.

https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/barton-bud-notre-dame-football-recruiting-clemson-podcast-147553960/
Barton & Bud Podcast had a question about ND recruiting. Basically it was asking if BK's notion of being in the top 5 is realistic and can ND recruit in the top 5. Their responses were interesting so I recommend a listen. Basically, on one hand, they said they should be able to sprinkle in a top 5 class here and there, but unless they dropped their character and academic restrictions, they wouldn't get consistent top 5 classes. They have to get to the point in recruiting where other teams are scared when they enter with an offer (Clemson does that and doesn't recruit in the top 5 consistently). They also said their priority has to be QB, QB, and QB. If they get a big time QB then they have enough talent to win. Not sure which of the two was talking but they mentioned that ND should not chase stars and needs to instead out-evaluate other teams and get into recruitments early and win some battles. They mentioned JOK and Kyle Hamilton as 3 star recruitments when ND entered the race. Hamilton was bumped up later and offered by UGA but ND had been recruiting him hard as a 3 star and JOK was a UVA and WF level recruit who followed Clark Lea to ND. They mentioned that when ND goes hard after their RKG or their big time targets, they need to be closer to 50-50 with the top schools in winning their battles. They said right now, OSU or Clemson win 90-10 of those battles. Bottom line, get the QB, have a top 10 roster in talent and they can win big.

From ESPN

as to ND's chance at a NC.... They were listed in the 4 ifs bucket.

Interesting note about performance vs recruiting.... since it was discussed earlier today.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+2,800)

If ... a new receiving corps clicks. Brian Kelly's Fighting Irish have ranked between eighth and 19th in SP+ for five consecutive years. (Not a coincidence -- their past seven recruiting classes have all ranked between ninth and 16th, per ESPN.) That's pretty good living! But he wants more: He dumped offensive coordinator Chip Long in favor of 27-year-old Tom Rees, who has worked for three years with quarterback Ian Book.

Four of Book's top five targets are gone, to be replaced by Northwestern transfer Ben Skowronek, big-play veteran Javon McKinley, and ... well ... we'll see. There are lots of youngsters to choose from, including sophomore Braden Lenzy and blue-chip freshman Jordan Johnson. Someone needs to come through.

If ... a star running back emerges from a crowded race. The Irish return three running backs (C'Bo Flemister, Jafar Armstrong and Jahmir Smith) who didn't do much with the first-string action they were given. The line returns six players who have combined for 115 career starts, but the backs have to do their part. And if they don't, you figure it's only a matter of time until blue-chip freshman Chris Tyree gets a long look.

If ... young DBs play like veterans. Thanks to a diverse pass rush and a veteran secondary, the Irish defense ranked ninth in ANY/A allowed last season. But both starting safeties and lead corner Tony Pride Jr. are gone, and while veterans like corner TaRiq Bracy and NC State transfer Nick McCloud could be ready for larger roles, success will be determined by how many blue-chippers from the 2019 class -- sophomore Kyle Hamilton and redshirt freshmen KJ Wallace, Litchfield Ajavon, Isaiah Rutherford, Cam Hart -- look the part early in their careers.

If ... the Irish overcome a lack of beef. Run defense was an issue -- the Irish were 49th in rushing success rate allowed -- and as with Oklahoma, that can be tied partially to pure size. Only two of 10 returning contributing linemen are listed above 286 pounds. A linebacking corps led by Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could be incredible, but it helps when your linemen can occupy blockers better.

I wouldn't consider "lack of beef" one of our four biggest weaknesses. Our DLM aren't big enough? I'd rather have guys who can move.
