Smart plan......I like it. Take the initial time to flush out COVID 19 throughout the team so we don’t have bumps down the road. And staying at Morris is a nice bonus

Hello, room service? I'd like to order a cheeseburger and fries.

Sounds like Swarbrick wants, at a minimum, the faculty & students to be able to attend the games. Problem is that ND would probably have so of their lectures as online only if the class was over a certain number of students. So how many students would even be on or near campus? Lots of variables. They’re in good hands overall when compared to State School U.

Although it's ESPN+ (and I don't have a subscription), you can see the tier 1 coaching jobs in the NCAA:

https://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/29236459/alabama-texas-usc-most-appealing

Here's the tier 1 list (alphabetical):

Alabama
Clemson
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Texas
USC

How is Notre Dame not in this tier if USC, Texas, and Florida are I there, all of which have under performed this decade? The other teams I understand as they are typically top 6 and always in the discussion of the playoff.

Any job that Urban Meyer turns down is automatically excluded.

I'd say all of those places are easier to win a NC than at ND. In fact, all have recently (last 20 years) with he exception of Georgia.

I don't know what criteria they used, but if it is purely based on ease/likelihood of success, these are definitely jobs where recruiting and facilities make championships more likely.

anyone else feel like Clemson will go back to mediocrity once Dabo leaves? I don't think their success as being sustainable. They will become like Oregon post- Chip Kelly

Obviously coaching hires are a big deal. But for a non-blue blood, they have set themselves up as best as you can. Their facilities blow most others away, and they have rabid support. Also unlike Oregon, they have plenty of local talent to recruit from. Gameday atmosphere is probably top 2 with the other Death Valley. I think they are going to be around for awhile unless they totally blow the successor hire.

It's not hard to see the common factors among those schools: (1) tradition; (2) big budget; (3) located in fertile recruiting territory; and (4) the will to prioritize victory over other competing values.

ND has (1) and (2). We don't have (3) and (4), which is why it's harder to win in South Bend than at most other blue blood CFB schools.

Regardless of the facilities, fandom, etc., it still comes down to the HC.

The fact that BK still has to have program upgrades worked into his contract extensions, which hasn't even happened yet, when we are already behind the other programs should show how difficult of a job it is. Pretty amazing actually.

Because ND is not appealing when you consider how hard it is to balance winning and academics.

Dabo is probably the HC in waiting at Alabama right? If Saban retires, Dabo goes there, takes all his staff with him then Clemson is regressing drastically

One would assume he is. Clemson will regress. Probably back to where they were pre Dabo, maybe a little above with the facility upgrades. Keep in mind that the benefits of a facility upgrade only last a finite time as they age and other schools upgrade theirs.

So does that means ND's really #3 - #4 or that ND will be #13 next week?

I thought they would get slotted around#13 to start the season.

On a different note. Listening to a discussion on teams taking social distancing measures during camp got me wondering. You can't practice blocking and tackling and social distancing at the same time. Has anyone heard anyone talk about players wearing face shields on their facemasks?

Schutt actually designed a full face visor attachment for their helmets. Not sure how practical it is though, feel like it would fog up really bad.
