A concert in Notre Dame Stadium has been in the works for a while now. I was working an even inside the stadium this past weekend and thats when I heard that an announcement would be soon. Notre Dame wanted to get as much as they could out of the new renovations and they are certainly doing that with a Garth Brooks concert and a Blackhawks vs. Bruins hockey game on New Years Day.

I didn't know he still performed. Is he still a big attraction for people? I'm guessing yes?

IIRC, he played exclusively in a Vegas hotel for a few years.

Not a fan of him or country music at all, but based on all accounts, he puts on a hell of a show and nobody in attendance is ever disappointed.

I'm a little surprised they didn't go with Bon Jovi. But I hope they do this more in the future, kinda like what Wrigley does in the summer.

he was booked in to play like 7 nights in a row in a 82,000 seater stadium in Dublin a few years back. Every night sold out in like a few hours but the residents around the stadium protested and the gigs were denied licenses, it was a big fiasco.

Not a country fan either, but IIRC, he was sort of out of it for a while due to a dependence, then cleaned himself up and has been performing since.

Per Notre Dame invites Garth Brooks to play first-ever concert in legendary stadium

"He just finished the three-and-a-half-year Garth Brooks World Tour with Trisha Yearwood, breaking records previously held by such acts as The Beatles, Rolling Stones and, even, himself. The tour played 79 cities and 390 concerts, selling 6.3 million tickets, making it the biggest North American tour in history and the biggest tour in the world by an American artist. More information is available at www.garthbrooks.com."

EDIT: I was curious: NDNation reaction to Garth Brooks concert in the house that Rock built

Croke Park is right in the middle of the city and has no parking lot. Folks basically didnt want to be barricaded into their homes for 7 nights in a row listening to quite frankly, really shite music.

I mean I hate country but at least it's actual music for the most part... more than can be said about much of our modern pop. Anyway,... seems a bit like cutting off their nose to spite the face, I'm sure that didn't help the bottom line in the area.

huge attraction. guess you're not a country fan lol.
he kicked off one of the biggest country tours ever about 3ish years ago. Played 2-3 nights in most place, and played multiple shows per day. He even returned to several cities. Saw him in Denver. It was good stuff. IMHO his new stuff is OK, but his old stuff was well worth the ticket. He puts on a hell of a show.

Honestly, you couldn't pay me to sit through one of his shows... ND Stadium or nah... lol... just me.

His dominance in my late teens and early 20s is what made me give it a shot.
Are you a country fan?

Country Boy Camp!

A.K.A. Aaron Cougar MellowCamp

did you grow up during the 80s/early90s?

btw, I'm a f'ing huge Cougar fan. Flew back to Indy to see him 3 or 4 years ago at IU music hall. I wish he'd do another big tour that was Farm Aide-ish.

Garth Brooks is no George strait but still a big f'ing deal.

Yup, he's definitely down the list for me, but still in my top 25. Also, he's a hell of a stage performer. I love the new stuff (country in general, not Garth's new stuff), but my core is Waylon, Willie, George S, George J, Johnny, etc..

Saw him last year. He looks a lot more like Jared Lorenzen (UK) than Michael Lorenzen (Reds). The show basically consisted of him dry humping all of the equipment on the stage and then trying to catch his breath enough to sing. Pass.
