Mad Queen - Nope, but I’m pissed because I was rooting for her. The starks turned her mad in my opinion and I blame her dragons dying on the starks... she was better off letting them die.

I’ll fight this fucker in real life,....

I like that Bronn made it big time.

Besides that, this season was a train wreck. Is what it is, hopefully we get the books someday.

Last scene should have been a Night King looking dude staring at Jon from far away. Cut to Bran staring. Back to NK. Back to Bran. Fin.

I was seriously expecting something like this. I'm so confused by what I just witnessed. Truly the strangest destruction of a beloved television show.

I am malcontent

The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

Nailed it with Bran, but it was Tyrion that made the choice for the reasons I stated earlier in the thread, not Jon.

Kind of nailed it on Sansa? I said she’d be cool ruling an independent North, but I didn’t think they’d give it to her... I guess it makes sense that her bro was cool with it. Truly, there’s no reason to try and “rule” the north when it is nearly impossible to get an army that far north, period.

Loved Bran’s line to Greyworm, RE Tyrion: “He is paying for his mistakes. He’s going to spend the rest of his life fixing them.”

I think it’s appropriate that Arya is heading off to do her own thing in the truest sense of the word... just wondering who agreed to sail with her lol. I expected to see Jaqen on the ship.

Sam is GRRM, duh. Don’t know how a legit Maester could write ASoIaF without mentioning Tyrion, though. He was instrumental in nearly everything. Quality burn, though.

Actually loved Jon ending up with Tormund and Ghost. Glad Ghost got some face scratches. I also love the implication that there isn’t actually a Night’s Watch; it was just a clever play from Bran to get Jon out of the way and end hostilities, knowing the far North is the one place that Jon might find peace.

Ultimately, I wish it would have been better. But the epilogue gave the Starks (both bloodline Starks and honorary Starks) the treatment they deserved, I think. They’d been through so much shit, the closure (or showing new doors opening) was necessary.

The episode also left me with some open-ended, in-universe questions that I will always explore in my brain whenever the show comes up, so it was a success in that regard, for me.

I have some questions and some speculating, but I’ll ask tomorrow when people can separate their general reactions/feelings from their responses lol.

Also, Drogon melting the throne in his sorrow was cool as hell, IMO, both in terms of visual and narrative.

I liked it and I've been a huge critic of this season.

A couple thoughts though...
1) Danys army grows after every battle...
2) $@&* Greyworm, I've never liked that d-bag
3) I honestly never really cared for Danerys character either
4) Jon is where he belongs
5) Never been a fan of Sansa either, didn't like her in the finale. I know she went through a lot but she's only really ever thought about herself
6) I liked the small council scene and everyone who ended up being part of it
7) Dorne still exists apparently
8) I want to hear the rest of Tyrions joke

Thought the Tyrion finding Jamie and Cersei was pretty good.

Tyrion/Jon conversation was excellent.

Was almost convinced that Jon wouldn’t go through with it. Dany almost had me convinced.

Thought the above was actually good writing.

Didn’t hate the last episode with how the season went. Certainly not how I expected the last season of Game of Thrones to be.

Sam trying to go all corny democracy and shit, and them laughing it off...

That was the best part of a weak final season besides Arya taking out the night king.

Jon was finally able to pet Ghost.... that makes this episode great in its own. Will be laughing when the books end the same way as the show does.

Ehh it was ok? I certainly didn't love it, but that was about as good as we could have hoped for with the shitty way this season has been built.

I nailed the Sam writing ASOIAF piece. Also hit 22/27 in the death pool I was in for my wife's work. Bunch of show only plebs so I think that should be enough to take 1st.

Loved Edmure being a moron.

Why was everyone just cool with Sansa deciding the North was going to be independent? I've always hated that character.

I actually got kinda choked up when Brienne was finishing off Jamie's entry in the white book. Kinda felt like it was underserved though with the stupid turn they made him make in the last 3 episodes. I guess I can just block that part from my brain though.

What happened to all the Dothraki? Just nothing?

Remember when they set up how Arya could steal peoples faces and do incredible magic assassin stuff? Sure wish we could have seen more of that.

I'm just gonna cut it here because the more I think about it the more problems I'm having.

Edit: Also why the fuck would all those lords agree unanimously that Bran should be king AND that the Starks should be kings in the north? Like no one even raised any questions? Dorn had no one to nominate to be king? What exactly is bittersweet about this? Our main characters got exactly what they wanted lol.

Yeah but why? Why would a dragon give a shit about melting the chair? Shouldn't he be pissed at the person who just killed its mom? Not a chair?

Would have actually been cool for him to try and burn Jon only for Jon to be unfazed like Dany was in season one. Fire immunity for Targs isn't cannon, but it is in the show and would have been neat to see.

i don't mind a dragon being pissed and going ape shit... i don't mind a dragon not breathing fire on another targ...

that's pretty natural IMO.

loved what's his name being told to sit down by sansa. and loved sam being laughed at... i know what play they were going for... utopia isn't real, not there, not here. not yet.

I'm just happy they didn't get too cute. They didn't need to make it all "make sense". The writers did well by the Starks, which I actually didn't expect. I thought a few would get torched.

I liked it and I've been a huge critic of this season.

not really hung on that.. between the all the folks she brought, and the North, had to be a bunch bigger even after the dead. the North is huge if you look at the map.

2) $@&* Greyworm, I've never liked that d-bag
I really liked him before he became a groupie. And I can understand his pain in throwing the spear.

3) I honestly never really cared for Danerys character either
She was never really lovable. Her best moment was coming out of the flames. I mean I felt sorry for her early, but she grabbed "feeling" late in the series. I think we all knew Jon would end her.

4) Jon is where he belongs
Amen. I thought he would end up sullen on the throne. Glad he ended up North.

5) Never been a fan of Sansa either, didn't like her in the finale. I know she went through a lot but she's only really ever thought about herself
I was pleased with her ending. Jon and her sis didn't want it. Somebody had to take it.

6) I liked the small council scene and everyone who ended up being part of it
Me too. And I loved that it wasn't complete.

7) Dorne still exists apparently
?

8) I want to hear the rest of Tyrions joke
Excellent post. Always wanted to hear it. I'm sure there is a google ready answer.

Overall...

Didn't expect earth shattering stuff.
Just got done cooking bacon and omelettes for the 74 year old mom and 91 year old aunt's morning breakfast. Microwaves rock. Now it's time for Billions (the best show on TV), and sleep.

Keep being Nancies all you Nancies....

Can't wait for the spin offs

Jon beyond the wall

Arya's adventure (hopefully she is preg, or meets up with a still alive hound).

Targs and their dragons are connected... Drogon knew that everything they had been through was for the chair. She died for the chair. So he broke the chair, and thus “the wheel.”

And if we want to get really ‘Dragon Whisperer’ about it, he could likely sense Jon’s distress, too.

(Saw on Twitter that he melted the chair because he knew Bran had his own lol)

I feel deflated after a great show ends, I felt the same after Breaking Bad ended (although I liked that ending).

I am going to pick up a book/series. Probably sci-fi or fantasy, which would be a new genre for me.

Would anyone recommend reading the GOT books after having seen the show? Or would it be a lot of time for a story that you already know much of.

It's over guys. Man, it's over. Good, bad, or ugly - it's over.

Sad day.

...would have been cool when the Starks said goodbye to Jon that Bran's eyes would flash ice blue.

I would read the GOT books.

The best part of the show was the political intrigue and maneuvering, and the books do it way better. The books are also better at reinforcing the story lines that really matter, obviously, but it's a big deal because there are things the show tells you you're supposed to care about, but really there wasn't any weight or gravitas to those things, in the end, whereas the books are likely to have better payoff to those threads simply because there's more material.

Read the books, or at least give the first one a chance. If you get to the end of book one, you'll be dying to keep reading.

The finale also makes me believe more than ever before that there's no way GRRM finishes the books. He needs at least three more books to close things out. No way he gets in done in two books, based on all the story lines he still has to not just finish, but fully flesh out BEFORE he can start to finish them.

The first 20-30 minutes were very good; everything up until Jon killing Dany should have been its own episode.

Everything after Jon killing Dan seemed so generic, feeling like a different series altogether. Some of the endings for the characters makes sense (Grey Worm going to Naath, Jon going North of the Wall, Sansa ruling in Winterfell), but I can't help but think that the book ending won't look like that.

Overall, mediocre season; D&D went from running a supremely popular and critically acclaimed show to limping to the finish line.
