Barely any snow at all this morning,… whole city still shut down lol
I remember when I worked for a company where the head office was just outside Dallas. Yeah, they got like half an inch of snow and were losing their minds. People were e-mailing pictures to the entire company of the madness. "I can't drive in this mess!" "White death from the sky!" It's kinda funny, but I get it. If you're not used to the stuff it's like catastrophe. We had at least 6+ inches in Ohio the same day and were in the office no problem :ROFLMAO:

Thats pretty common in the south here my way. People are just not prepared for snow or icy weather and its better to keep kids at home than risk having them out on the buses getting stranded or waiting in the cold for the buses. If kids are home, then parents are at home so business will just say stay home. In my city we have large cable stay bridge that when its freezing rain drops ice bombs on the cars below so they will shut the bridge down completely as these bombs have significantly damaged cars. This bridge connects a city of 70000 people to downtown Charleston (100,000 people) where traffic is high both ways for work and school. I assume other communities have their issues.

The ice can fall from very high above (few hundred feet)

I use to get pissed about everything shutting down at the first sign of any frozen precipitation - now it's kind of nice to take the snow day and play with the kids once or twice a year when it happens. Easy to get around and do whatever since vast majority are hunkered in their house with a month supply of milk and bread. Also helps that my irritation can be redirected at schools that are starting to close for bad thunderstorms or threat thereof.

People here are starting to mildly panic in grocery stores. My only thing is my trip to Savannah this weekend might be canceled.
Grocery stores were packed the last couple of days. Big run on bread, milk and eggs. After all it's become tradition to make french toast during a snow storm.

So I feel the need to ask just because I don’t know any better but why the hell would you live in a place like that? I mean I truly don’t understand when you know there are other places in the world which aren’t so brutal and potentially deadly to you or dangerous to your body. What I mean to say is that in some countries that type of environment is a bleak wasteland reserved for sending criminals for punishment.

Again. that's a tough call but I remembered this video. I'm not a big country guy but great music is great music. Alberta has about 4-5 glorious months of the year. Makes it all worth it. 90% of this footage is filmed within 10 miles of my ranch. I know most of the people and my grandfauther worked several years in the featured underground mine. Daughter worked there as an interpreter. We have definitely become a nation(s) of snowflakes

Here's my neck of the woods or my nape of the neck:

Let me know what you think of the song/home!

Got me scared with that bump there! Thought another cold front might be coming in.
Just checked the weather, other than Sunday it looks like we're going to be warming up into the 40s and maybe even 50s by the 23rd! Can't come soon enough. I'm ready to put the sandals back on. Snow goes out, shoes go with them.

My YouTube link didn't work? The vid was Paul Brandt... Alberta Bound. I'll try again but one of my U.S. brothers may have to link.

Yeah, that link worked that time. Can't say I care for Country Music either, but damn if that isn't some fine looking scenery! One of these days I need to make a trek up north.

It’s been in the 30s every morning,… I’m like Julie Andrews in sound of music twirling around all bundled up,… I’ll take this over 100 degrees and humid any day

Yeah, way too soon to be this frigid. I wear sandals almost year round in Ohio, I only put them away when there's snow on the ground or it's 20ish and below. Fuck this shit.

Major pre-Christmas storm brewing for us in Indiana/Michigan/Chicagoland. Local weather guys and NWS are sort of downplaying the amounts right now, but the guys I follow on Twitter—and they’re usually pretty spot on—updated this morning with expectation that the storm will be significant, especially with 50+ mph winds.

Guess I should probably get my shopping done before the 23rd this year…

I guess the question would be how rural you are. That blowing and drifting is going to be pretty intense, and I’d anticipate out in the county, even once you get plowed, it’s going to drift back shut, again. With those winds I think power outages are probably also of concern.

For me, we live just west of Fort Wayne. Family lives in Fort Wayne. As long as 30 is fine, we’ll probably make a go of it on Christmas Eve.

Tentatively I’d say the 24th is a toss up, based on your location, but Christmas Day should be fine.

I'm fortunate that I have several family members within 15-45 minutes of me should the power go out. I also have a natural fire place so I can always stock up on wood, but that gets old quick, let me tell ya.

Stay safe out there, the winds are the most concerning part of this, but coupled with snow that means idiot drivers who think they're immune to the road conditions could cause a downed line at anytime on top of the strong gusts.

yeah theres a southern warm front pushing north thats throwing models all sorts of whacky on the amounts of snow to be dumped but every report ive seen confirms winds are going to be awful.

Thursday night through Saturday morning for us here on the Illinois/Wisconsin line.
Then snow amount won't be as bad as the cold and wind. 4 inches of snow that's crystalized and frozen will look like smoke trying to drive through.

We only got like 3” of snow—far cry from what they were originally calling for…but they nailed it on the forecast. It’s -9 right now with a wind chill of -34. Crazy.

-8 in Indy. Barrow, Alaska-2! Lol

I live on the SE side and I don’t think we got more than a couple of inches. The wind makes it miserable when taking the dogs out.
