And guess who's going on vacation to Minnesota this weekend?

I'm heading up from Jacksonville to MPLS the 20th to visit my son, his fiancée and friends. I might even try to stop in to counsel Koon on crawl spaces, lighting fixtures, decks and gas furnaces.

While I don't need 20 below with blowing snow, I'd rather it be a tad more "seasonal" than when I flew from NY last Christmas and it was 45 degrees with not a fleck of snow in sight.

I was overdressed in my down jacket.

I'm not sure if it was this thread or another, but some time ago I was bitching about the shity Michigan winters and cold weather and desire to move somewhere warm. Wooly, I believe it was you, made a comment or two that made me step back and enjoy this season more. I'm not sure there is a better place to be during fall and winter than Michigan.

Fuck that shit. You're in Michigan? There's not a better place to be during fall and winter? Isn't it bad enough to be living among scUMers on top of having to deal with shitty weather? I mean, I don't have it much better in southern Ohio weather-wise, but I'm definitely going to be snow bird when I'm older. Snow is nothing but trouble. It wrecks havoc on commutes, drivers go stupid when the weather is bad (Especially the further south you go. Texas snow might as well be white death from the sky), the salt mix is bad for vehicles over time, it's a pain to constantly shovel, and of course it's cold as fuck. I could see some people enjoying a White Christmas, but come December 26th it can all melt away till next Christmas as far as I'm concerned. Hell, I'm okay with palm trees on Christmas myself.

About 30 years ago I was living in Houston and there was a freak dusting of snow. No accumulation. None. Drivers saw the flakes and promptly put on their 4 way flashers slowed, to a stop, and abandoned their vehicles on interstates, highways, city streets, country roads ... everywhere. And walked away.

Winter Diary
August 12: Moved to our new home in Ohio. It is so beautiful here. The mountains are so majestic. Can hardly wait to see snow covering them.

October 14: Ohio is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves are turned all the colors and shades of red and orange. Went for a ride through the beautiful hills and saw some deer. They are so graceful. Certainly they are the most wonderful animal on earth. This must be paradise. I love it here.

November 11: Deer season will start soon. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to kill such a gorgeous creature. Hope it will snow soon. I love it here.

December 2: It snowed last night. Woke up to find everything blanketed with white. It looks like a postcard. We went outside and cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snow ball fight (I won), and when the snow-plow came by, we had to shovel the driveway again. What a beautiful place. I love Ohio.

December 12: More snow last night. I love it. The snow-plow did his trick again to the driveway. I love it here.

December 19: More snow last night. Couldn’t get out of the driveway to get to work. I am exhausted from shoveling. Fucking snow-plow.

December 22: More of that white shit fell last night. I’ve got blisters on my hands from shoveling. I think the snow-plow hides around the curve and waits until I’m done shoveling the driveway. Asshole!

December 25: Merry Fucking Christmas. More friggen snow. If I ever get my hands on that son-of-a-bitch who drives the snow-plow I swear I’ll kill the bastard. Don’t know why they don’t use more salt on the roads to melt the fucking ice.

December 27: More white shit last night. Been inside for three days except for shoveling out the driveway after that snow-plow goes through every time. Can’t go anywhere, car’s stuck in a mountain of white shit. The weatherman says to expect another 10 inches of the shit again tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10 inches is?

December 28: The fucking weatherman was wrong. We got 34 inches of that shit this time. At this rate it won’t melt before the summer. The snow-plow got stuck up in the road and that bastard came to the door and asked to borrow my shovel. After I told him I had broken six shovels already shoveling all the shit he pushed into the driveway, I broke my last one over his fucking head.

January 4: Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get food and on the way back a damned deer ran in front of the car and I hit it. Did about $3,000 damage to the car. Those fucking beasts should be killed. Wish the hunters had killed them all last November.

May 3: Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing is rusting out from that fucking salt they put all over the roads.

May 10: Moved to Arizona. I can’t imagine why anyone in their right mind would ever live in that god-forsaken state of Ohio.

The scUM issue I still struggle with. But I will say this year, as good as they were, I didn't really hear a word from anyone about it. A first, and probably a last time that's happened. Everyone laughs at me, but I LOVE driving in the snow. One of my vehicles is well past 200k, a bit of rust starting from the bottom, probably going to die soon, but it's a beast, and I love it.

And the heated seats and steering wheel make sure you're nice and comfortable when it dips well below that temp too.

It's cold, but it's not windy here in Duluth.. Therefore, it's not really that cold. We do have a nice amount of snow coming in though. I haven't driven in snow in nine years.

the pool was so nice yesterday......
I shoveled the driveway this morning. I had a snowblower when I moved in, but my driveway has quite the incline to it so it didn't work well. I laughed as I started after the guy across the street, and finished before he ever even started. My driveway is about 4 cars long and 2 cars wide. His is the same size but actually flat. He has a snowblower..........that he still can't get started. Lol

It's been crazy here... I can't remember anything like it in my neck of the woods... it's not like it's rained super heavy but it's rained, snowed or hailed 'heavy' like eight of the last ten days... many areas flooded... sounds like it's about to pass tho.

It's been delicious lately. Anywhere from 30-40 degrees the past week or so.

Where are you from?

We all have winter...just a matter of how mild it is ;)

Charleston,SC. We normally have a subtropical climate which is a mild summer, hot and humid as fucking hell summer, hot fall, cold wet winter. This year was basically mild summer and mild fall. I have had only two days below 35 degrees which was overnight lows. I havent had to wear anything heavier than a Columbia shell. It even got up into the 80s a few days in late December.

We had a few cold ones in December with some decent snow, but Ohio has been surprisingly warm the last 2 weeks or more...60+ degrees during the day, and only 44 during the night. Around here that's shorts and sandals weather anytime...well, at least for me. This is the reverse of last year, which felt like one of the coldest damn winters we had in a long time.

A few weeks ago I was in Sioux Falls and it was -27. Coldest I've ever experienced. I got out of my car for 10 minutes to fuel and scrape some ice off the windows. I didn't realize it was that cold so I didn't put on gloves or a hat. Got pretty bad frostbite on the top of both ears and numbness in the fingers of my right hand. No permanent damage and the ears have finally healed, but still have a small amount of numbness in the tip of one finger that is slowly getting better.
