Jackalope - my family has a cabin near Lincoln (about 20-30 mins from Alpena). I live in GR now, but travel to the cabin once every summer. Love it up there :)

So hard to even imagine summer when it's so friggin cold and snowy outside. I feel like it's been like this since November when, in reality, it has been like 3 weeks or less. We had a green new years this year!

Their calling for up to 30".... I'd say Congress just wanted to take Monday off and fixed the Haarp thingy..

Haha, I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about this:

A light dusting did that.

Cool! I lived in GR for four years during my college days and I love it there but I'm a small town guy at heart so I moved back. Let's meet for golf and cocktails at Monarch Ridge next time you come up.

Well, living in Alpena I'm sure you wouldn't. It basically means what you get every day during the winter caused DC to go full disaster movie.

And how many million people are concentrated in your area?

The DC area and the surrounding states don't have the equipment to deal with the snow that states in the snow belt do.

I hear this a lot and I know that makes a big difference for when there's 30", but Lansing blows at clearing the roads. A lot of times they do nothing at all unless it's 6+ inches. You don't need equipment to deal with an inch of snow. You need a level head that isn't stuck firmly in your behind.

Just bumped up our forecasted accumulation to 30 inches. A few years ago we got 30 inches and 4 days later got 28 inches. Crazy amount of snow.

I will have to dig out my trusty clubs from the back of my storage unit. Been almost a decade since I've hit the links.

Don't forget a basic understanding of how brakes work and the common sense to increase stop length. That's where people tend to be idiots. They think they can keep their one car length distance going 75 mph on the freeway during a snowstorm. Duh.

Crazy to see that Southern PA will get blasted compared to up here in Northeastern/Central PA. We're only expected to get up to 10 inches.

Stay safe down that way.

Sitting here in freaking western New England and we've had zero inches so far this year.

I don't think we are getting anything, and I am not sure Cleveland or Buffalo is.

We have had an El Niño early winter, here. I completed some landscaping in the front circle in November (outright balmy), planting seed (buried under fine mulch) expecting it to germinate in early spring. But by Christmas it had germinated well enough that I am going to have a full lawn by spring! It is something that never happens here.

Jan we have only had about three inches of snow. It all came the morning of the 12th, enough to close schools, because driving was near whiteout. The 12th would have been my fathers 98th birthday. I could just see him trying to leverage the kids a day off!

Staying out of this discussion this go-round. I sold my Minneapolis home of 32 years in July and hit the road, mooching off family in NY. Now I'm mooching off family in Jacksonville, FL and looking for an apartment.

I can still keep cold and snow bragging rights for a year or two, can't I?

Seems the meteorologists were wrong about how much we would get here. My hometown ended up getting roughly 28-30 inches. They predicted no more than 10. What a storm.
