All non-essential personnel (i.e. those of us who don't make TV happen) have been instructed to work remotely tomorrow with normal business to resume Wednesday.

Thought I heard CT had a travel ban until noon Wednesday.

Can't anyone in New England follow the rules?

Wooly probably has snow skis that he uses to get to work on days like this, or pulls himself behing a dog sled like Iron Will.

How's everyone doing?
It was a complete and utter non-event. Projections had me in the 20-30 inch band and now it looks like we'll end somewhere less than 12 inches. Such bullshit that they hyped this up as a possible "historic" event. When you give a range of 20-30, you have a lot of room to miss badly and still be "correct." This is totally unacceptable and, frankly, dangerous. People are going to stop listening to the travel bans and other warnings if they continue to overhype storms that amount to nothing. If the REAL range is 10-30, report 10-30 from the beginning rather than trying to be "precises" and just utterly missing.

Hate that you had to deal with the stress of it all, but glad all is well.

Welcome to weather, dude. They can't get it right every time and what would be totally unacceptable would be calling for 12 and getting 30. No reason to get worked up about it. You were prepared and there is no downside to that.

I highly doubt that there will be a "chicken little" syndrom the next time a storm comes. Get real.

Yeah I'd rather them miss high, than miss low....

We got almost nothing overnight here in Northeastern PA.

I might be more inclined to that line of thinking if they were honest from the get go. They weren't saying "20 to 30 with the possibility that the storm moves further east and we see less." They were saying "OMGWTFBBQ HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BIGGEST BLIZZARD IN THE HISTORY OF EVAAAARRRR HIDE YO KIDS HIDE YO WIFE!"

The people on the Weather Channel were absolutely giddy getting everyone riled up. You could see the twinkle in the reporters' eyes as they went on and on about how stores were running out of food and firewood. They're like the ESPN of meteorology.

In unrelated news, the Weather Channel has majority stock in Whole Foods after a deal was struck last week.

If you look at what they were showing on doppler, the storm certainly had the capacity to do something like that. They weren't just packaging up a small storm system and conspiring to screw with you for the sake of ratings. Meteorology isn't an exact science.

Again. Get angry when they call for a dusting and your town ends up not having power for a week. You're pissed because they prepared you and your family for the worst scenario the storm is capable of. Seems pretty callous of you to accuse them of sensationalism, considering if they erred the other direction, you would have been concerned for the safety of your family.

So the weathermen are right about as often as ESPN and their predictions of "Les Miles to Michigan", "Brian Kelly to the Eagles", etc?

Glad you are safer than you thought you might be. Think of this as an opportunity to practice your cold weather plan without a small mistake causing dire consequences. Just enjoy the extra time home with the baby.

Plenty of snow and high winds here along the coast of Maine. Central Ma is also getting buried right now. My nephews snowmobile is actually stuck in the deep snow right now (near Worcester Ma). Pretty funny seeing the pics of him digging it out.

I'm Southwest of Worcester and I have around 25 inches. I just came in from snow blowing. It is still snowing steady so I would bet on 30+ inches when it is over here.

Another "utter non-event".
Exactly the opposite. Last week, the media freaked out and nothing happened. This week, hardly a peep and I'm completely buried. I guess they're more inclined to make a big deal out of things when there's no Super Bowl to focus on.

Yeah, we got over 16 inches here in Meesh-e-gen.

Gave me a good excuse to bury myself in bourbon last night.

Anybody an expert on snowblowers? I mocked them earlier in this thread and I've come to eat my crow.

Good Grief, Charlie Browns. I'm waiting for a shoe to drop here in Minneapolis.

Though we had an "early" start in November, snow amounts are below average and temperatures above average.

I can't shake the feeling that klimate karma's gonna kick us in the ass before it's all over.

Layer up. Ibuprofen up. Likker up when done.

Cub Cadet makes a good one. Buy it from a dealer, not a box store if possible.

I prefer a lawn tractor/plow to a snowblower. Of course this assumes you have room to store it and your yard is big enough to use a lawn tractor to mow. You can find a well maintained used John Deere on Craigslist for a decent price too.

Don't you New England'ers just pay the subdivision-neighbor kid to shovel your McMansion mini driveway while you and the family make snowmen, do snow angels in the yard and drink hot cocoa as you frolic to the jingles of Bing Crosby?

no?

I have a small yard with steep hills so a tractor would be next to useless.

My neighbor kids don't even shovel their own driveways, the lazy punks. My dad would beat my frozen ass if I was sledding before the shoveling was done. I'm also the only jackass on the block without a garage. We're a neighborhood of small capes and raised ranches. There's one McMansion on the corner that we all use to keep our property values up.

I wish I had a son... 16 years ago.

A balmy -17 Today back home according to that map.

What I thought was really funny in MN was a general commitment to the air temperature as opposed to the wind chill. Most people discuss the WC as though it were the actual temperature, but Minnesotans just discuss the air temp.
