For real? Gotcha... so we could be waiting a long to for someone to hint at it.
But, even if he attends class, can't he still be 'banned' from football?
Thank you for telling me this. Now I won't be holding my breath.
Res Life suspensions are generally not from class but from all extracurricular activities be it football, cheerleading, or the glee club. They don't ban a specific sport or activity. I believe the intent is to get you to focus on your issue and your classwork while taking away distractions. ResLife can also issue community service, counseling and in drastic situations separation from UND - expulsion.
Some ResLife decisions are enacted the same semester (Powers-Neal), some the following semester (Cerasani, Yeatman). I don't know how they make that distinction, perhaps how late it is in the semester when they hear a case. (That's a guess on my part.)
Kelly took the unusual action at ND of suspending Floyd indefinitely from the team. I think that was a preemptive strike by Kelly so that ResLife could consider "time served" for his Spring suspension and any counseling Floyd put himself into voluntarily. Keep in mind they don't have to consider Kelly's and Floyd's actions. IF Res Life were to suspend him for the Spring Semester, I'm guessing that would include Preseason Camp which takes place before the Fall Semester starts. As I mentioned in a previous post if he missed Preseason Camp he would have still have to go through NCAA preseason conditioning prior to becoming eligibile to play. That could keep him out of the first couple of games in the season.
Depending upon ResLife's decision, Kelly could comment in his Spring Ball wrapup that Floyd will be able to participate in Preseason camp OR in August he might comment or just issue an updated Roster with OR without Floyd on it. Keep in mind Floyd could also do what Yeatman and Fauria did and leave. The NFL draft is a question mark. If ResLife issued a Fall suspension, Floyd might chose to stay OR might transfer rather than sit out the season.
That's why I say as long as he's in class there's hope. He should know soon. We may not since this a personal matter.
In the past the commentary has been low key in these situations. The coaches don't comment on ResLife decisions and ResLife doesn't issue press releases.
I suspect when it gets known it will be leaked by a teammate, roommate, etc. Hopefully and estatic one.
