Spot on. I'm not gonna name them, but I know at least 8 players that were busted for weed in the last ten seasons and none of them even made it to media or punished. These are just facts.

Weed, yes. A gun, though, seems like a new development, and that's what elevated this one. Also, I'd imagine it's harder to keep the story contained the farther you get from campus.

You should preface your posts regarding serious sh!t with, "I heard from a good/so-so/worthless message board source that they weren't smoking weed in the car or that the gun wasn't Redfield's instead of reporting it as fact. I took your word on the gun possession comment and figured someone else was in for more trouble.

I normally could care less but there are legal ramifications in regards to this case like if they hadn't blazed in the car and the weed was secure, how did the officer smell weed and what made him suspicious enough to get the dog to free air the car in a walk around? Could he have made up a false indicate just because he had 5 brothers in a car where he felt they didn't belong?

I have now heard from several sources that the gun did not originate with anyone in the car. I think that Max must have borrowed it. Which makes sense, in that he is the only one being charged related to the gun, and it has changed from a transportation to a 'possession' charge.

As far as the weed, it is public record that the officer involved has done the 'I smell weed' thing before. And called a dog. And either found, or not found weed.

Do we have any idea of the quantity, based upon the charges?

Do we have any idea if there was any evidence, forensic or otherwise, that there was weed out and being/or had been smoked in the car?

Thought I read somewhere that the officer actually had a dog in his car with him (i.e. he was a K-9 unit).
I would not be at all surprised if various sheriff's departments and ISP along 31 have K-9 units sitting out on weekend nights looking for cars full of young black dudes who *might* be running drugs between Indy and northern Indiana. I'd actually be more surprised if they don't.

IIRC, a dog sniffing your car for drugs is not considered a search under the 4th amendment. That is, they don't need probable cause to use the dog.

If he had the dog in his car I'm sure it regularly participates in traffic stops.

Have you ever been in the type of car that carries five college students and drugs across the state of Indiana? Cars like this have a permanent stank even if they hadn't been smoking on this particular trip.

SMH. It's like they were trying to commit every single petty-ass offense at the same time.

but received no charges for it right?

I think some of you would be surprised how easy it is to smell raw (unused) marijuana in a car.

Also, if they had just left a persons house where they were smoking, it being on their clothes would be enough for the cops to smell it.

Too many small details here that arent worth fretting over.

Damage has already been done, charges filed, etc.

Redfield was the only one charged with the gun. I was told also I believed it's reported they weren't smoking when they got pulled over. Weed was found in the backseat by coney, Stepherson and Dexter? I'll try and dig up the link but I believe it was reported ITT that they weren't smoking and the weed was just found in the car.

I use to smoke so I know when weed is in the car even if it's not being smoked it's kind of hard to cover up the smell of it in a little car. So I don't know the probable cause to search the car I just know it's a hard smell to cover up even if it's bagged up and everything.

this was my point above. just raw mariajuana in a car is pretty easy to smell. especially the good stuff. even if they had it in a air sealed container, had they smoked recently in the car or in those same clothes the officer is going to be able to catch a whiff.

Court docs: police found 12 tablets in the center console. Ashton White reportedly said he got them from a friend--generic muscle relaxer.

Court docs: 5 players told The officer the gun *wasn't* theirs. Stephenson and Redfield allegedly said it belonged to a friend.

police found 2 clear plastic bags "containing green plant material" & green plant material loose on the front seats and console.

police found handgun "within clear sight" in the back passenger floorboard while searching for possible drugs in the car.

Prosecutors allege 'significant' marijuana found with arrested Notre Dame football players | Notre Dame Insider Football | ndinsider.com

It's kind of ironic that football players, whom many people would like us to think can barely buy a movie ticket or enough Ramen noodles to get through the week, have enough money to purchase a "siginificant" amount of marijuana....

Weed is cheap, especially when you're getting the "ND Football Discount."

(Of course, I understand your true commentary on the issue)

Exactly. It's totally overblown how "broke" football players are.

But they may have gotten it for free. I've seen that happen many times myself. I played at a small school and guys on the team would get stuff (worse than weed) for just hanging out.

I think you are being harsh.

Remember, acting hard is really, really important. It's not good enough anymore to just to be considered a demigod on campus. The way social media is these days, you really need people to think you are living in a music video at all times. While its true that they are getting free school and have a leg up meeting any girl they come into contact with, these kids have a real desire to be legendarily cool. They feel they owe it to themselves. That deserves our respect.

As far as the broke stuff... some of them are and most of them aren't. GASP---they're all different!

I smelled some in the WalMart parking lot last night. Crazy how strong it was.

Priorities man, priorities.

Isn't it ironic that Redfield has been a disappointment, but his last act he he took one for the team? lol

Back around 71 my dad and I went to a game at Warren Central. Someone under the bleachers was burning a doobie. My dad bless his heart, smells it and says, "Wonder what that smell is?" lol

Put it in the Texas thread, but BK revealed that he does not punish players for first-offenses related to marijuana.

He "educates" them, and they are then subject to random drug testing thereafter.

That's why he hasn't suspended the young guys.
