I love Paul. I watched the Iron Bowl a couple years ago where he took calls during the game and they broadcast it, so funny.

I wonder if kicking Max off may get the large majority of the deal pinned on him from the sheriff office? Do we know who was driving? With my lack of experience in these situations doesn't the driver usually take the brunt of the punishment?

I think the generally accepted wisdom around here is that this Max was already on his last strike with Kelly. It's not (necessarily) that he did anything more or worse than the other players, just that this isn't his first rodeo.

I had a very lengthy conversation with my Son last week (he is a HS senior) and I found out that a very very large % of kids are smoking weed. His school is in a district with no government housing and the cheapest house probably sold for over 220k. I told him when I was in HS only the "bad kids" smoked and he said that the "bad kids" are taking pills and snorting blow. As a 36 year old man with my life very well put together, I smoke weed every once in a while. I really don't see the big deal, but if I had a ton to lose (Like Max, Le'veon Bell, and Martavis Bryant) it would be the easiest thing in the world to pass on. I guess my point is, I'd bet 80% of college football players smoke. You just gotta be smarter than riding 5 deep in a small car, speeding with a gun. Sucks to be Max and Co, but they gotta own it.

Probably his 3rd or 4th. I was told that he broke curfew 3 or 4 times during the week of the bowl game which got him suspended.

Finebaum was very complementary to Notre Dame. He never equated the situation to Baylor. We should be very pleased with how he praised Brian Kelly and how he thinks this team is talented enough to be in the playoffs.

That's what I suspected. Finebaum is a pro, albeit a bit of a homer.

Remember Kinsley's law -which is meant to concern political scandals but applies here- that the scandal is always what is legal, not what is illegal. In these types of cases, what is legal is the cover-up. In Baylor's case, the scandal was that the coach and AD didn't mind rapists staying on campus and on the football team.

What makes ND "different" from other programs is that it consistently holds students accountable for misbehavior, including academic misbehavior. Students at other schools are never suspended for academic failures- and it is not because they are all Rhodes Scholars.

his level of focus was high on getting high...

FIFY

TL was pretty much on the mark...Max had focus issues, and leadership issues.

maybe the worst punishment will be when he has to face his folks and explain himself...and how he took an opportunity and lit it on fire...sad.

Finebaum just equated ND "issues" with Baylor on Sportscenter.

Cool your jets Paul.

Actually was complimentary of BK and the University in a larger statement on issue. Comparison was randomly during a segment on Deshaun Watson

What was his statement? What exactly did he say?

If he said "Notre Dame is just as bad as Baylor," then yeah that would be a stupid thing to say. If he said "Baylor has lots of issues, and of course they're not the only ones... there are some issues in South Bend as well," that that would be a factually true and accurate statement.

All my vbucks says that comment is being wildly distorted.

Damn, I would have won big.

It was during a segment on Deshaun Watson. As I said on my second post, he was complimentary during the segment he actually supposed to talk about ND.

Something like it's nice to see Watson's character (had something about him building houses) in light of situations like Baylor and Notre Dame.

Koon calling someone out for a hot take post. Lol.

That's because the bag man with the sack full of cash hasn't got there yet. Oh wait, this isn't the SEC thread.

Say I was a billionaire and felt compelled to pay off the cops to drop all charges in this case. Would ND face any NCAA sanctions if they are in no way affiliated with me or my actions?

Cam McDaniel urges ND fans to show restraint

I respect the hell out of Cam and it was a good read.

Nice read...great sentiments. I haven't seen much bashing on IE. I've seen speculation regarding the outcome of the season and the disciplinary action...which...I'd expect.

I think it is ok to voice disappointment...

But I agree with Cam, that while these guys did some really dumb stuff...they aren't the weather underground for crying out loud...they didn't rob, cheat, or steal...they didn't inflict harm on anyone...they forgot who they were expected to be...and they'll pay for that.

I think most will be back at ND...when that will happen...shrug. Some think they'll never be asked to leave...and will play the season...some think not (me). Either way discipline isn't revenge...and I want discipline that causes reflection not resentment.

...I'll take our collective problems as ND fans...2016 will have highs and lows...just like it was always going to...

Graduated HS in 2015 in a situation that I would say almost perfectly represents the demographics of the country as a whole in Central VA, and I wouldn't be stretching the truth to say that I knew more kids who smoked weed or had tried it at least once compared to never having smoked, and this was a kid in mainly honors/AP classes

SAIP.

The 5 Notre Dame Football players arrested in Fulton County are due to appear in court next Tuesday, August 30 for their initial hearing.

Per 247. So this should be nice and dragged out, fear not.

I don't doubt the culture of kids has moved on to a more accepting view of "weed". I really couldn't say if the numbers have changed much over the years...I just know anyone I knew who did went to great lengths to hide it from parents, classmates, even siblings.

This lined up well with laws and honor codes or whatever...no mixed messages at all. Now, I do think things are blurred ...

Got rid of the exclamation points in the thread title because I kept reading it in a happy tone then got disappointed all over again.

See I graduated HS in '98 and it really wasn't like that back then. Some people smoked, but it was more like 20% not 80%

2 of his friends that smoke daily, even before school are going to Vanderbilt to be doctors. Go figure

I think because the generation of parents have changed. Not only do I have a son that is a senior, but I also have a daughter in kindergarten. So I am much closer in age (35-40) to my daughters friends parents rather than the parents of my sons friends (45-50) And this is the honest to God's truth, I meet more parents of my daughters friends that are casual smokers who don't see much wrong with it. And again, I'm not talking about a bunch of losers. I'm talking about educated people in 500k+ houses and driving Range Rovers. I guess my point is, my friends who smoked back in the late 90's would have been KILLED by their parents had they found out. Now, these kids don't have parents that will lose their minds. I also don't condone if my son smokes weed, but If i raise all my kids and the worst thing they ever do is smoke some weed....I've done a good job!

So outside of the gun, this was probably 5 good kids getting in trouble for some dumb shit. All probably big enough football stars in their hometown that they would have been let off with a warning back in high school. Again, MINUS THE GAT!!!
