Not sure if it's been posted, but this is at least a small sigh of relief...

Update: The possession of a handgun without a license charge (Redfield, Stepherson, Williams) is also a misdemeanor. https://t.co/aYfEUBO5Jj
— Matt Fortuna (@Matt_Fortuna) August 20, 2016

Whoever had the hand gun still needs to be dropped. Kelly has to take the scholarship of whoever was in possession of the hand gun or his creditably goes out the window. The min of two players need to off the team out of the 6.

Win one for the Gipper.

How's that?

Better. I feel like Tuitt has made a couple of under the radar digs at the university since <strike>graduating</strike> leaving early for the NFL. And it's not like he was without violation of team rules himself. Just don't see the point of biting the hand that fed you.

In light of his history, and as the only senior among a bunch of underclassmen, it's safe to assume that Redfield bears most of the responsibility for this incident. Would be nice to see him end his ND career by finally doing something right: fall on the sword here, cop to ownership of the gun, and try to limit the damage this will do to the younger players who were with him. Not holding my breath though.

While I agree that as a senior he should know better and be a better role model, under no circumstances should he fall on the sword unless the gun is actually his.

I'd be shocked if Max decided NOW were the time to put the team first.

But I'm with you. Hope I'm wrong.

My biggest concern at this point is how long ND will take to dole out punishments a la how long the the Frozen Five fiasco was drawn out. Is there any reason to think they wouldn't be involved in this?

Thanks for the advice, bkess. Didn't mean to offend.

Not offending me just saying that wasn't the brightest comment. Kelly should not be held responsible imo unless he takes zero action. We all know that won't happen and these kids will be accountable for their actions.

Not sure everyone will learn their lesson if someone falls on the sword for all. The players responsible for the gun and the weed need to be held accountable but all should be held accountable for putting themselves in this stupid situation.

General sentiment at ISD is that this isn't as bad as it seems. There's some debate as to whether or not the mods are just giving it a positive spin, but for anyone who read the article that Jamie posted, it's really not the end of the world.

Instant Reaction: On-Field Impact - Irish Sports Daily

I think the immediate impact is not bad at all vis a vis Stepherson and White, because I think we have enough front line players at those positions and depth to make it work. I think it's a moderate issue with Williams and Coney just because they seemed really talented.

I think it's a huge issue with Redfield not because Redfield is an elite player but because we're so thin at safety that an injury, targeting suspension, etc. and we're SCREWED. I've bemoaned for over a year now the terrible recruiting at safety and it's coming home to roost. We're all-in on a true frosh and Tranquill's glass knees. Woof.

Not sure it will be that long. That situation required them to do the investigation (finding the evidence, all involved and how far back it went) compared to this where they will only be able to use what the police have already got. The one thing that will be waited, if I'm remembering correct, the students need to be back before the counsel can do anything.

I don't agree with this. The only people that should be punished are the ones who actually committed crimes. Punishing "association" seems over the top, IMO.

Fair or not, and obviously I dont have all the facts, however I place the blame for this on Redfield as well. If he did fall on the sword like you said, I would have a different opinion of him. But like you, I don't see that happening. Someone is redfield's position should have known better.

There's nothing Redfield could do to get the others completely off the hook, nor would I want him to. But that gun likely belongs to only one of them, and the longer this drags on without someone owning up to that, the longer it will take to resolve this. If it's Max's, he needs to do the right thing here ASAP.

2007 Ford Focus? I cannot picture fitting these 5 inside a Ford Focus. Were 2 of them riding on the roof?

This is just assumption, a big one, but Greg Bryant was killed less than six months ago. The rumors I've read on Facebook and other social media platforms was that he was targeted for his status. The killer was looking to make a name for himself.

I can completely see these kids feeling the need to carry a weapon for fear that a person will pull a gun on them, although it rarely ever happens.

I am by no way saying they should not be punished or that I understand their side. Just trying to reason, although not the best one. They are all kids though. Kids in college tend to think differently than what grown men do.

Sucks this had to happen before the season but everything will be okay. I have faith.

Not sure how these laws differ from state to state. In Cali, it is legal to have a gun in your car as long as it is not loaded, unless you have a concealed weapon permit.

Known better for what? We got NFL players every year getting popped for weed and they are grown men... The gun? If its not Redfields, no way should he fall on the sword... Whoever gun it is should fess up.. PERIOD

So your ok with the ones who were "just along for the ride"? All should be held accountable. If one of them didn't do anything then they shouldn't of been there. Don't put yourself in a bad situation unless your prepared to pay the consequences.

Butler is probably screwed, but I hope the other 5 kept their mouths shut and lawyered up. As nice as "falling on the sword" sounds, the best thing for everyone in the long run is to shut up and speak through your attorney. No idea how it will ultimately play out, but I hope no one was in there just confessing to crap.
