Frustrating.

If only everyone here could be like the women's BB players...they never get in trouble. I believe women have greater impulse control than men. It certainly seems to be true among ND athletes.

"SBPD tried to detain Butler, he allegedly resisted and pushed one officer off balance and tackled him off of a curb outside of the bar."

"Court documents allege that during the scuffle Butler physically ripped one officer's belt off, forcing the officer to taser him"

Butler is probably screwed, but I hope the other 5 kept their mouths shut and lawyered up. As nice as "falling on the sword" sounds, the best thing for everyone in the long run is to shut up and speak through your attorney. No idea how it will ultimately play out, but I hope no one was in there just confessing to crap.

What about Tommy Rees and his banana dance with the SBPD?

If treated equally, it would seem unlikely that Butler would be expelled.

Agreed. I think they're fine if they kept quiet.

Mix this with him shoving a female, no way they keep him in school

Not trying to defend his actions but according to documents he saw a woman kicking another woman in the head and pushed her off her.

Attacking a police officer is a different story although his defense could be; heat of the moment, middle of the night couldn't see anyone.

Just thinking from butlers stance.

So your ok with the ones who were "just along for the ride"? All should be held accountable.

Sure. For what? Explain exactly what action they should be held accountable for besides riding in the vehicle, which isn't illegal.

If one of them didn't do anything then they shouldn't of been there. Don't put yourself in a bad situation unless your prepared to pay the consequences.

Twist the situation and make it more serious... a bunch of people get into a car with someone, who they don't know is carrying. That person pulls out a gun and shoots someone. Should all people in the car "be accountable" for "putting themselves in a bad situation"?

Makes no sense.

In high school, 5 of us were pulled over with a bag of weed (no gun) by an Indiana State Police officer. A friend stashed it under the seat as we were pulled over. He played the "whose is it?" game for a few minutes and then said we were all going to jail unless someone claimed it. We remained silent, and he eventually dumped out the bag and let us go.

My point: I honestly think he did that because he could see we ALL weren't an accessory to the illegal item. Lax is right. You can't punish everyone in the car. That would be like if a drunk dad got pulled over, and his kids in the backseat went to jail for DUI too.

They shouldn't have put themselves in a bad situation.

I can understand only one of them getting charged with possession of a firearm. But come on what reality do you live in where you think that 4 out of the 5 were just riding in the car.

Me thinks a drug test could be administered, and anyone who pees positive will be implicated, which will be everyone, I'm not that naive......

To be clear, I wasn't suggesting that Redfield should confess to something he didn't do. I assume: (1) that, as the only upperclassman present, he bears the lion's share of blame here, and; (2) that his career as an ND football player is over. If those assumptions are correct, and he could benefit the younger players involved by coming clean, then I think he ought to do so.

Yes you should charge all of the kids in the dad's car if they were college students that went to one of the most prestigious universities in the country. They all willingly made the decision to get into the car and new that they were going to do something stupid. Quit trying to cover for these kids, they did something stupid and should be held accountable by the coaching staff and university!

In your reality, what do you think the other 4 were doing? Smoking weed? Do you know how many ND football players have been busted smoking weed over the years? None of them were kicked out of school. You get suspended for that, not kicked out of school.

Just seeing the news.... Not even surprised at this kind of stuff anymore. It's always something, frickin' offseason. For a bunch of bright young guys, they're still young guys and make boneheaded decisions.

Not saying that they should be kicked out of school but they should be held accountable for their actions. A couple game suspension would be fine.

My bad, I read you incorrectly. I agree, they shouldn't go unpunished, but the punishment should fit the crime. We don't know the facts, but I would guess anywhere between a couple games to a season would be appropriate.

Yeah, I don't care who you are or if you are guilty or innocent, always get a lawyer.

Didn't Greg Bryant get busted for smoking weed a couple years ago? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but I could have sworn he did. Anyways, in my opinion the gun is the real question, weed will probably get them a game or two. Tossing kids out for that is a little excessive. We're not BYU here where you get caught with a girl in your bedroom watching a movie and you get kicked out.

Do we know who's been charged with what? Who was driving?

Edit: Sounds like White was driving.

Greg didn't get booted because of the weed though, he left on his own accord...likely due to the grades and the suspension for weed.

Correct just looked it up, he got a 4 game suspension prior to leaving. I would expect something similar in this situation.

Reserve cornerback Ashton White, 19, was listed as the driver of the vehicle.

Interestingly, White wasnt charged for the gun. So it's not like it was just left in the car accidentally.

A source in the know told me the gun belongs to Redfield

Next man in.

Redfield already had two strikes leading up to his suspension for the bowl game.

Time to cut their losses and use him as an example for the younger players.
