Looks good. I like how we're kinda getting an origins story.

I think it's going to be a better show than the Walking Dead but less entertaining, if that makes sense.

Grading the first thirty minutes, I would say it has more potential, but it is a snooze fest for the most part. Which I guess is pretty much consistent with what you said.

I really like this actor who plays the son. And I really like how this is like a build up to what we know will happen.

Of course the first show is going to be a snoozefest. Character set up etc etc. In the course of 6 episodes we are going to go from 0 to 60 real quick. Hell the Walking dead was pretty slow at first. I am optimistic as to where we are headed. I really wish they would have answer ready as to what exactly causes the reanimation though.

Don't get me wrong about my snooze fest comment, I am going to continue to watch it. I love the potential, but it just felt so similar to TWD how most the episodes are going to be crap besides one or two scenes that completely reel you in. That is exactly what this one did. I am hooked as much as I hate it sometimes.

If that makes sense.

I did not/do not watch The Walking Dead aside from the first season, so I can't make comparisons, but I thought this was pretty decent. It was obviously all character-building and setting up the family-life issues that will intermingle with the Walker outbreak to provide more actual "character" to the show. I was intrigued when they were stopped in traffic on the highway, and then the gunshots rang out, and then the teachers were all watching the video of the Walker the next day.

I know that there is no such thing as "Zombies" in the universe of TWD, but it still frustrates me when these people don't realize what is happening lol. I have to constantly remind myself that they wouldn't have heard of reanimated dead things that have an appetite for flesh and that can only be killed by forcibly shutting down brain activity.

It will be interesting to see how the creators account for the dynamic of a vastly populated world that is coexisting with a spread of the epidemic. I've seen enough bits and pieces of TWD to know that this show, though the premise is different, could essentially turn into the exact same thing, just with more people around.

Like Phork, I want to see the story of Patient Zero... that's really what interests me.

I'm curious how many seasons it takes before they get to the point in time where the Walking Dead begins, if at all.

BTW, did anyone do that Shazam thing during one of the commercials? It was pretty cool--you got to watch the video of the guy being shot up just like the girls in class were doing on their cell phone. Made me feel like I was in their world a little bit.

I did it. Was pretty cool. Need MOAR of that type of footage in the actual show, IMO.

If at all? I haven't kept up w TWD too much but I did enjoy the first two seasons... TWD didn't have some major timeline from the opening scene to when the outbreak occurs correct? He was in a coma for what? A couples of weeks, maybe a little more? Is this new show about life among the dead before things get out of hand? That can't be too long a timeline can it? Obviously I didn't watch last night but I'm somewhat interested in it...

I could be wrong but wasn't there some type of virus already going around before he went into the coma? Maybe it was a flash forward but one of the opening scenes is he is in that abandoned lot (looks like a camp) and he kills a crawling Walker.

Correct, when he wakes up... But he also has no clue what walkers are, at all... He needs the situation explained to him by the father and son he hooks up with, which leads me to believe nothing at all had happened when he goes to the hospital, it all starts and gets out of control fairly quickly, while he is in the hospital... At least that's my understanding. If walkers were already a thing before his coma he wouldn't have been so in the dark and in a state of disbelief about what was happening.

Ahh alright, gotcha. I must have had the time frame mixed up. It's been a couple of years since I've seen that episode.

According to the comics Rick was in a coma for 59 days after the outbreak began. I'm assuming the show follows the same timeline.

So basically, depending on what we consider the "outbreak" there are 59 real world days that FTWD can cover without any overlap. I would think that would take at least 3 seasons?

I really enjoyed the first episode. If didn't have the "F-yeah!!!" feel to it, but as others have said, it has a ton of potential.

I am really hoping we see some of the preliminary "prepper" aspects - what people grab when the SHTF and what are some of the initial steps they take. I am really happy to see there will be some government involvement that obviously does not go the way people want. They can really drop some interesting story lines outside the main characters.

To be honest, I was hoping they wouldn't have central character story arcs. I would have liked the show to be individual vignettes week to week about different groups handling the outbreak. Oh well, that's why I don't write for TV shows, I guess.

I would love to see the patient zero story as well. They made references to "everyone out with the flu" so a flu pandemic is interesting, but I hope we get to see what takes the infected victims from fever to flesh eating.

Missed this because I'm currently a 29 year old male living with my Grandparents and they don't have cable.

Is this a spin off of the Walking Dead? I saw it had the same producer.

Does it have anything to do with the story, or are they just similar shows?

Will the normal Walking Dead still be coming out with the new season this fall?

This is a spinoff series that happens in the same world as TWD but shows everything leading up to 'end' and then beyond. It also happens in Los Angeles.

Yes TWD will have a new season in October.

Yes

There are no overlapping characters (maybe there will be in the future) and FTWD takes place 60 days before TWD does.

Yes, October 11 I believe

Eh, I dunno yet. Backstory and setup up are good, but it didn't feel like there was much action for an hour and a half opening. Felt too slow, too much talking. Not really digging this druggie kid that we seem to be following the most. He's probably a decent actor, I'm just not into the character.

I don't think they should have killed the Cal kid yet, missed opportunity there. He could have kept up his charade for awhile, pretending to be the good guy, back stab some people later, killed him off way too early.

There's something kinda funny though about this whole West Coast point of view. Right now people think these walkers are just on some kind of drugs, which makes me laugh. Could be Florida too I guess when you approach it from that point of view.

All I kept thinking about during this show is when that guy in Florida, who was on bath salts, bit that dudes face off underneath the highway.

That day I thought TWD was coming to life, seriously though.

But seriously, there was that guy that ate bath salts a year or two ago and proceeded to go Zombie Mode and chewed a homeless guy's face off. Can't remember where it was, though.

Ha, beat me by mere seconds.

Great minds! I'd rep you if I could.
