Just to be clear. No one has any idea what is up. There are a few unlikely scenarios, (Quinn). But, save the tweet that it was time to start interviewing QB coaches, and one sentence attributed in an interview with BK, we don't even know whether BK is hiring an OC or a QB coach. Correct?

my take is denbrook to OC and then an outside QB coach coming in.

Well, somebody is going to be OC. It looks like it will be Denbrock. So call that a hire or a promotion somebody will get the title OC.

If he's calling games like the OU game in Norman, I have no issues. He would've never given up control anyway, so glad he's all in.

I am in full support of this. From what I can gather, the last two years have been Martin all the way in terms of playcalling. I would much rather have BK calling the plays where he has a demonstrated knack and feel for the right call at the right time.

and Riley is a former Texas Tech/Mike Leach guy who came with Ruffin McNeill to ECU a few years ago.
Was WR coach at TTU when Michael Crabtree tore it up that 1 year.

im actually pretty bummed BK is gonna be calling the plays, would have liked to have seen something fresh and exotic in the offense.

This is the year or bust. With Golson back and Kelly dropping in the plays, should be no reason you won't see fresh and exotic. If not we'll probably be in staring 7-5 in the face. Just don't think the defense can hang with some of our schedule unless we can score big.

Our offense was build on to protect the strengths of our team the last two years, our defense. No reason to really open things up and get in trouble when all we needed for most games is to play the field position game. I think we will see a much more explosive offense this year, since we need them to carry our team. Defense is not very experienced next year so the focus on the team switches to offense.

If the offense is great, the defense merely has be be opportunistic and create turnovers- the recent super bowls captured by the Saints, Packers, and Giants, and maybe even the Ravens last year, are probably our best blueprint for success. Powerful, explosive offense, and the defense is just good enough to keep us in games, but creates chaos and turnovers. Letting up big plays occasionally worked for all of them and should work for us, as long as we're also creating the INT's, fumbles, 3-and-outs off big sacks or TFL's, etc. DB's are gonna have to come up big.

If you have a true "spread" team that is uptempo and fast scoring, then you don't want a bend-don't-break defense. It only takes scoring opportunities from your offense. The key to a spread is that you can score faster than the other team and do so more consistently.

For instance, if a team like Oregon goes up on a team like Stanford by 3 TD's in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Then the average time it takes Stanford to score is more than what is left in the game.

High Octane Offense = high blitz, opportunistic defense.

Run Heavy Offense = Bend Don't Break, try to keep score down.

LaFleur played for Saginaw Valley St. (same league as Grand Valley) while BK was at GV...might be the connection there.

So I am hoping that BK calling plays will speed things up right? No more stupid timeouts and delay of games? Right?

RIGHT????

Plus Everett should be more adept at understanding the play calls and getting everyone set in time. The new receivers should be lining up correctly by the start of the season (I would think). Right?

Should? Right? Personnel groupings? Right?

Lincoln Riley might take the OC job at Texas. So if we get him to be our QB coach that would be unreal.

I just looked him up he is only 29 that's crazy looks like he has a bright future. All 3 of those QB coach candidates I would be happy with.

It will definitely be an about face from this last season.

Here was the original quote in the SBT

WSBT’s Rick Schutt reported, and a source confirmed, three men who interviewed for the position as Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, a former Notre Dame grad assistant; East Carolina QBs coach and offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley, a Mike Leach protégé from their days together at Texas Tech; and former Washington Redskins QB coach Matt LaFleur, who worked for Kelly at Central Michigan during the 2004-05 seasons.

BGI confirmed it wasn't Riley.
