All I kept thinking about during this show is when that guy in Florida, who was on bath salts, bit that dudes face off underneath the highway.

That day I thought TWD was coming to life, seriously though.

But seriously, there was that guy that ate bath salts a year or two ago and proceeded to go Zombie Mode and chewed a homeless guy's face off. Can't remember where it was, though.

Of course it was Florida, that was immediately what I thought of when I saw this premier. They've even got the palm trees and some of the crazy on the West Coast:

I love zombie flicks and story lines but he core arch is getting super played out... it's always the same thing, find some place to hole up like a farm house, mall, or whatever, safety doesn't last, other humans are just as dangerous as zombies... etc...

I would like to see them find a creative and fresh way for the survivors to deal with the madness... find an island that's completely zombie free where they have to go to the mainland every once in a while for supplies, or find some completely new way of living among the walkers... something different

I'm hoping they touch on what people really want to see....Walker love. Where's the romance? Where's the connection? It seems like every time a Walker meets someone they just paw at them to no end. We want meaningful dialogue!

They could have a love story between a survivor and a walker,.... they could even have a child that's like half human, half zombie,, then that child-zombie-thing can go start a soccer club in the Ibrox section of Glasgow Scotland.....-

wait, that's already happened in real life, my bad.

After letting it sink in and based off the previews, I have a feeling California is going to successfully (or at least better than the East Coast) fight off the virus or whatever it is and maintain a level of civilization.

One thing I remember in TWD was an episode where there was a plane flying. Did we ever figure out who that was? Would be cool if TWD and FTWD sync up.

Similar to Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, I think you'll be fine.

I think this spinoff will be a lot easier to follow in isolation but I think the big draw for me is knowing more than the characters. For example, we know shooting a zombie in the head does the trick but the characters in FTWD don't quite realize it yet.

I don't know if I could watch Better Call Saul without Breaking Bad. There's sooooo much allusion to Breaking Bad that would be missed. And again, knowing where Saul ends up is the big draw for me.

Had TWD on in the background at work this afternoon. I watched the first season a few years ago, but want to see if I can make it through alongside FTWD.

SPOILERS:

Near the end of the first episode, Rick sees the reflection of a helicopter on an Atlanta sky scraper, but the survivors he meets tell him he's crazy. Does anything ever come of that? I don't mind spoilers if it pertains to anything after season 1.

EDIT: Is this what you're referring to, ND23?

I've watched every WD so far and think FTWD has a chance to succeed on its own. The episode last night did drag, but it has Koyack potential. Regular WD lost something when the characters were no longer afraid of walkers. They became more of a distraction to the battles with other people. Best thing is that they aren't tied to the comics, so maybe there will be more surprise.

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement  Waiting 4 years until you decide to put out a good show usually means you get axed after year 2 or 3.

I really like the show so far. It's moving at just the right pace and the acting is really good IMO. We also don't have any of that forced dialogue (yet) that I dislike about TWD.

Yep. I missed the first 10 mins of the show so I wasn't able to see what happened to the son. But as stated above, the show is at a great pace and the acting is way better then average. No corniness, either, which makes this show already better than TWD (or more bearable to watch).

I just watched the last episode last night. I have to say that because of TWD I find this show to be more tense because obviously we know where things are going and these people are like walking straight into a train with their eyes closed.

I do find the handling of the reports like the freeway incident to be fairly realistic, like in regards to that Florida incident a few years ago. We got tidbits of what was happening but really never the full story.

The thing I find lacking is the urgency in which the characters we know right now that quite haven't figured it out but know that there is a huge shit storm approaching are just kind of hanging out..

I'm really loving this show. TWD has gotten so incredibly stale, and it lost me last season after a couple episodes with a really bad character death. I think the acting in FTWD is fantastic so far.

Am I the only one bored out of my mind? Sorry, but I'm saying the emperor isn't wearing any clothes. I love the original show, although I have some complaints about how it has progressed (honestly, can we make a trip to Sportmart and get some catcher's equipment already? we figured out 5000 years ago that leather makes a pretty good body armor, you'd think a bad ass band of bad asses would be draped in leather armor at least at this point).

But this is downright boring, the acting is pretty bad, that drug addict kid pops back in forth into his British accent and looks like he is auditioning to play Johnny Depp half the time. Why do we need to keep killing all the black dudes? Why do they have so many slow closeup shots of various characters with blank expressions? It reminds me of the first Twilight - which I couldn't finish.

Production value is very low, it's obviously low budget. Also the dialogue is terrible, it's written for idiots. Does anyone's reactions to anything feel credible? Honestly, has anyone said anything of any value? Except that one nerd who knows what's going on they all just stare at each other.

The pacing is the worst part of it all. You can't show a scene where mom bashes the zombiepal in the head with a fire exteninguisher and then five minutes later she's brooding with her kid - unsure of what to do or say. At that point you better snap together and get this shit on the road!!!

I'll watch the whole damn thing - which I guess is only 6 episodes, but it's painful. One funny note, isn't it odd that no one in a zombie movie or show has ever seen a zombie movie or show? They're all like what is this?

I think the acting is 10x better than TWD. The one thing that drives me crazy and TWD does the same exact thing--the show is absolute boredom for 90% of it just for 10% of the show to be kick ass and reels you in for next week. I just want a complete episode.

I think the problem is if everything was realistic, and if the characters were always smart, logical, and behaved normally then it wouldn't be a show. You've got to have flawed characters to add to the drama, and you've got to suspend some realism for the sake of entertainment. I enjoy the show(s) for the most part keeping that in mind. I think anyone can watch these shows and say "Why aren't they wearing some protection?!" or "Who would do stuff like this in a zombie apocalypse?" It would be a boring show though, because no one would die, safety would never really be in doubt.

The other way to look at it is that there are a lot of dumb people out there in the world. So it's just a microcosm of reality.

My point is that the characters have already said it. We have to get out of here and go to the desert... Yet here they are.. Separated, etc etc.

If you want to avoid zombies, the last place you go is the California desert.... Trust me.

Yes.

I'm digging the slant.

We'll have characters meet up in the future between the two shows. It's inevitable.
