I watch it. I can't tell you why I enjoy it, other than I enjoy golf so watching it is interesting to me. I completely understand how people don't find golf on tv appealing. I will say going to a tournament is very cool. It's great to see how effortless the shots are for the professionals in person.

I would love to go to the Phoenix Open sometime and get into the grandstands on the 16th. Just would be an absolute blast to be a part of that.

To the bolded:

- Watching Bubba or DJ drive the ball is incredible. Anyone who has played a round of golf can appreciate those two straight killing the ball.

- Phoenix Open is a bucket list item for me (along with Augusta)

I can hit the ball relatively long for my level of play (though not always straight...). Even on my best straight drive I'm still getting out drove by guys like them by 40-50 yards at least...

I have a buddy who got to Augusta this year for the practice rounds. Everything I've heard from people that have attended a practice round say they are the most fun because the players are more relaxed, chat it up with the fans, and generally have some fun.

Yea, in-laws have been and said the same thing. Go for practice rounds.

You absolutely have to go. Augusta is amazing and it is a completely different world behind the hedges. Practice round is the way to go. And stay late - the last guys on the round usually have very few following them and they're very approachable. Also, watching the grounds crew after the players are finished is actually really cool.

I love golf... it's a great game, but I always struggle to understand how people can watch it on TV... it's such a terrible watch in that format... (some sports are just better on TV or in person, hockey is MUCH better in person for example)

are there actually a lot of IEers who watch it on television?

Love watching it on TV. They make it look so easy and when you pick up a club and try to emulate them it's not so easy.

I like Els, so that was rough to watch. I have never seen a pro golfer miss that many puts in a row. Kinda makes me feel like I have a shot at the tour. :) I have done what he did there more times than I care to admit.

I think all of us who golf have done that many times. But the question is, have you ever done it that many times ON ONE HOLE? I have never done that nor seen that before. Could not believe it when I watched it. Just felt sick for him.

A buddy of mine had Shane Lowry to be First Round leader at 190/1, almost pulled it off :)

Charl Schwartzel had a pretty bad 4-putt a while back. Els is by far the worst I've seen though.

Rory had a 4-putt too.

Els with a 7-putt though? Has to be unheard of from a top pro.

And his poor caddie. I can only imagine what was going on in his mind. "How can I help?" "Do I say anything, or let him go." Part of that is having a strong relationship and knowing what your pro expects out of the caddie, but still.

Els had two bad holes, otherwise he ends the round at +1. Crazy.

If I'm the caddie and he misses his 4th short one I literally step in and get in his face.

I am in the market for a used golf cart - yes I understand this opens me up for ridicule. Any suggestions? I am looking at EZ Go or Club Car - EZ Go looks like it has better top end speed and torque generally speaking. Primarily for family to the pool/neighborhood usage but will be hitting the links periodically now and more regularly in the future when the kids are older.

Any feedback on which are easier to work on, tricked out options you suggest or general advice appreciated. Or just post some Caddyshack memes.

There are lot's of options. I had a Club Car gas motor. Loved it. I wanted gas so I wasn't limited with the batteries. Those little Kawasaki engines are solid. It wasn't the fastest flat out but it was good on hills.

Some of the 36 volts are pretty fast but the batteries are expensive.

If you buy used, asked the dealer where the cart came from. Carts from up north and even Canada generally have fewer rounds on them.

There are probably several outlets down your way. There's a good dealer on your side of Winston-Salem, Brad's Golf Carts.
Brad's Golf Cars, Inc. - The Golf Cart Leader in the Triad of NC, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, Charlotte, and Lake Norman.

Quality dealer but may be a bit far for you.

Good luck, let me know if I can help.

Thanks - need electric - gas too loud and not interested in maintaining a gas engine, can't think of any gas carts in our neighborhood and they are buzzing by all the time.

How much do you think the dealers negotiate? Any thoughts on age of cart/model years to avoid? I would like to avoid one that was owned by a golf course if possible.

When buying a used electric cart make sure to look at the date code on the batteries. It may drive great when you test drive it but if the batteries are older your run time will be severely limited. Also, if you ever replace the batteries, replace all of them.

I'm a little out of touch with the good or bad. Club Car and Yamaha are solid, or at least they were. E-Z Go is fine too I think. There are carts built just for neighborhoods, even road worthy if you want.

Carts are pretty simple, heck you could change the whole body for $400 a few years ago. I wouldn't worry too much about golf course carts. You can tell if they are abused. It's all about the batteries. I wouldn't touch batteries more than two years old. If they are used, open them up, check the water level, see if they are full and consistent. Look for white acid stains around the batteries and the frame. Usually not a good sign. I like new, then I know how they are maintained. You can see other damage pretty easily.

My Club Car was 10 years old and looked brand new when I bought it. Negotiating probably depends on the dealer but I would ask.

If you find something you like, post some pics and we'll check it out. I've got a buddy here in town that does a good job and seems fair, just too far away.

Rory has pulled out of the Olympics over Zika virus fears. He's getting pillorized now on social media for being a pansy

Mr Palmer made golf "cool" way before Tiger. He like Bobby Jones before him made you feel like a old friend from the first second you met him.
