Everett- Congrats and God bless!
Make us proud.
Make us proud.
This was the one wild card that I felt may change things from a 6-6/7-5 season. If the kid doesnt throw up on himself maybe just maybe he may bring to the table a small portion of Kevin MCDougal/Tony Rice and they may win more than 7 games. I still think they start 1-1 and only manage 7 wins. A scrambling/running/ hit a guy open once in awhile QB can make up for the poor secondary weak front d line and no real passing game. Without a power back this team cant just keep giving it to Wood and hope for the best-live with Golson's mistakes if he can put points on the board. More than likely the kid from Cinncinnati is playing by the 2nd game as Kelly starts to shuffle. This is not a good football team. I love Notre Dame (always will) but remember I'm the guy that said they lose to South Fla and that same guy says they start 1-1. I dont think they're good enough to beat Navy and Purdue or win 8 games this year.Keith Arnold tweeted he expects Everett Golson to be named ND's QB today, which was echoed by the Trib's Brian Hamilton.
If accurate, it hopefully begins a successful and entertaining era of ND football!
We were good enough to cream Purdue and Navy last year. Why won't we be good enough to do it this year with a better QB? We have amazing talent on this team, I don't know what or who you have been watching but we didn't lose very many games last year because of lack of talent. We lost because of poor QB play and beating ourselves with turnovers which goes back to poor QB play. This team is much better than you think. They have more talent in most positions on the field than we have seen in years. For once, I feel like we have a decent offense and a kick a$$ defense, something we rarely have together. The offense could be even better than that if a couple WR step up and Golson becomes the QB most of us think he is.
You may have called the USF game but the thing about that is we only lost that game because we had 5 turnovers and I doubt anyone thought that would happen. Without those turnovers, USF wouldn't have stood a chance. Yeah, they won but it wasn't because they were more talented and even that good of a team. ND beat themselves that day and Kelly made some poor coaching decisions too.
This is not a good football team and Lord knows I would love to be wrong-if it comes down this way I ask you to comment on how you think this program is going and if they win the first 2 games and manage 8 wins for the season I will be happy and say that I was wrong. You can reason all you want on past loses and why but the facts are that this is not a solid football program. Brian Kelly/Knute Rockne/Lombardi/Knoll /Stagg/Pop Warner/Landry could not win at this program under the present situation that this coach or any coach has to deal with. If Notre Dame was easier to win games at they'd have Stoops as the coach. Guys like that pass now because they understand that at Notre Dame your in a gun fight with a knife. We were good enough to cream Purdue and Navy last year. Thanks for the lighthearted stuff but you guys can see I'm in the dumper on this program. Other places can just reload even if they are on probation but at Notre Dame the school hamstrings a coach from playing the game that the top 25 teams play. Look at what has happened at southern cal and ohio state-didnt miss a beat still doing the same old crap and winning games. Yeh a little sanction from bowls and schollies but either one of those teams would blast Notre Dame. The program makes $$$ and until the $$$ stops what you see is what you are going to get. In the mean time young kids dont even consider playing for Notre Dame because they are not relevant. I never ever thought I would say that but there it is-Notre Dame at this point in time is not relelvant. Dress 'em up in whatever screwball uniform you want/play it anyway you want this program has now turned to the carny atmosphere. Win a damn football game and then tell me how good you are. This comes from someone who loves Notre Dame not some wiseguy troll from another school. They are staring 6-6/7-5 in the face and people are worrying about jubotrons and clown uniforms. You're absolutely right. With the exception of Knoll, all those guys are dead. So, yeah, it may be difficult for those guys to do well at ND today.

There's a lot to question in this post, but due to time constraints, I'll just go with the one I bolded. So, when ND starts LOSING money, then the product on the field will improve?

Has it been mentioned that he's thrown two more picks in practice since last week? START KIEL!!!!!

Guys, Irishtrain is just a little jaded. I understand where he's coming from. I myself suffered through the worst years in ND history as a student, starting with the 2007 season.
We have a lot to be excited about, but it's reasonable to be skeptical if you've been following ND football for awhile. We're excited for this team every year, yet the team somehow underachieves big time every year.
Maybe this is the year. Maybe not. As fans, however, we can all be debbie downers or we can believe in the team and keep our guys afloat when things get tough. I, like many others on this board, choose to believe. Rocket sums it up best:

Irishtrain, gtfo with your unbelief. It doesn't belong here. GO GOLSON! GO IRISH!

"So Everett can definitely play in the kind of offense that I wanna play: aggressive, spreading the field, being aggressive, pushing the ball vertically as well as controlling the line of scrimmage," Kelly said. "So without question we would not have named him a starter unless we felt like this was the next step towards moving our program."
