Everett Golson Announced as Starter

I believe some reporter came out and said that Golson took the good majority of the first team snaps at a recent practice. The writing has been on the wall for some time now imo. The comment about taking care of the ball followed with the stat about Golson's int to attempts ratio was good enough for me. Anything else is just a formality.

I don't think the public announcement and how the reps are being distributed in practice have anything to do with each other. Just because you don't know the decision doesn't mean the team doesn't know. Golson could have been taking starter reps for a week and they could not announce the starter until gameday; the two things aren't related at all.

If people want an official announcement as to who the QB is, that is fine. But don't use the argument that the team is better off knowing who the QB is. You're conflating two different issues.

Then again maybe we nor the team knows the decision, everyone has opinions right now until that announement is made, so I disagree, the announement very well could be an important thing, relating to us not knowing, and no one really knows if the team knows either. Argument works both ways, and even "IF" the team knows, isn't the support from the fan base only more encourgement for Golson now that everyone knows he's the starter. It's one thing to have your friends and teammates know, but when everyone knows, talk about a boost of confidence.

I haven't been this surprised since I heard Mark McGwire used steroids.

In all seriousness, hoping this begins the hugely successful Golson era.

It's a trap! Hendrix is starting! The media is trying to mess with us Irish fans...

It's nice if true! Most here and other boards feel he is our best chance right now and in the future. If he does well that would also be good for Gunner IMO. It will give him time to hone his skill and be ready when it's his time. This is how USC has been doing it for over a decade and as much as I hate it, it worked out well for them.

Yeah, they have done a nice job of keeping QBs through senior year.

That and just being groomed and ready when the starter graduated. I would love to see that start happening here again. Granted we've had a few great ones ourselves, it's all about keeping the cupboard stocked!

Glad we have closure for a few weeks until Golson throws a pick and everyone starts calling for Gunner.

wonder what the odds are that CFL, ion 15 minutes, announces this as "unconfirmed sources site EG as the Notre Dame starter for the 2012 season"?
7/5?

How strong is this? I can I believe it and tell my friends or is it still too weak and unconfirmed?

Knowing ESPN's proclivity of not doing a lot of in depth research and analysis on CFL, they probably picked up the tweets and are reporting as fact.

Still want to hear it from a ND source.

I hope not. Tony was a winner, great option reader and runner but as a passer he forced Holtz to keep a cardiologist on 24 hour standby.

BTW, shouldn't your user name now be "GreatGolson" ? I get the Mt. Everett but GreatGolson is alliteration and dare I say it, you have tradition to maintain.

Brian Kelly's post-practice presser scheduled for one hour from now. Might be worth checking back on that one. Could be interesting.
