That was a gimme a break moment. Felt contrived frankly and almost gratuitous. I would have liked to see a lot more crap thrown at the Big 10 and PAC 10 for pussin out. Not sure if the talked about the added year of eligibility enough and how useless a spring schedule of PAC 10 and Big 10 football would be.

I also think espn has been sitting back and hoping for political reasons CFB craps out as their has been no college football live leading up to this season as if it was a foregone conclusion it would be cancelled because Herbie thought so.

On a more controversial note I will miss Flutie in the booth. Kind of humiliating for him to now be relegating him to sideline duty. I guess we are making way for Drew.

-College Football Playoff Chase: Let’s Break Down The Race For The No. 4 Spot Already. Brain Kelly....
-Week 3 schedule: unranked USF vs unranked ND

I understand that there are journalistic errors here and there but I find these on ESPN regarding ND to be more intentional. The above are just the ones at this point in time, but there always seems to be something.

Not glad anyone losing their job, but essentially these are NOT ESSENTIAL, especially in the minds of the corporate beancounters. Hope they start by drastically reducing the talking heads that yack non-stop about nothing. Get a real job.

ESPN has become trash. I hope Kellerman gets fired. Outkick has started it's own TV brand for people who aren't bleeding heart liberals since sports has somehow become partisan. I actually like it better though.

Real story may be no different than any other business about to be sold off- https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...ring-plan-is-really-about-getting-rid-of-espn

“ESPN used to be this unbelievable thing, and now it’s just a really expensive thing they are having trouble monetizing,” Cramer added. “ESPN is no longer the precious place that it once was.”

Yeah the Kellerman quote is batshit,... I’m watching a bunch of Gameday for the first time in at least a year (maybe more honestly) and it’s just tired imo

Inevitable given how they've changed. COVID just accelerated some of this. Hate to see people losing their jobs, especially as the holiday season is fast approaching.

I find this hilarious on so many levels. So you are telling me ESPN that ND beat the number 1 team in the nation and fell in your FPI (football power index). What is this based on, strength of schedule, wins, conference bias? With the upcoming layoffs ESPN is becoming more irrelevant by the day.

Here is their top 10, enjoy the laugh.
10. Texas 5-2 moved up 2
9. Oregon 1-0 up 1
8. Oklahoma 5-2 NC
7. Notre Dame 7-0 down 1
6. Florida 4-1 up 3
5. Georgia 4-2 NC
4. Wisconsin 1-0 NC
3. Clemson 7-1 NC
2. Ohio State 3-0 down 1
1. Alabama 6-0 up 1

If you read the descriptions on that power index, even ESPN is starting to question the FPI.

Explain this, ESPN. Notre Dame beats top-ranked Clemson at home and sees its poll position be negatively-affected as a result? Despite staying unbeaten, the Irish have a 36.2% shot at winning the ACC, which is considerably lower than the team they just beat (60.2%). ESPN's FPI must know something we don't about the rematch in a couple of weeks.

I can mentally accept Bama and OSU. I can even accept, not agree, but just accept Clemson being ahead of us.

Wisconsin?? After only one game, which was against IL? WTF
UGA?? Their offense looks anemic, and they just gave up 44pts.
FL?? Aren't they giving up like 30pts a game?

I'm guessing it's because their best win, vs PSU, doesn't look so great now. OSU, IMO, never should have been in front of Bama. Bama is putting up like 45ppg and has convincing wins over TAMU and UGA.

If we had and played OSU's schedule as of today we wouldn't be in the top 10.

FPI isn't a ranking, that's what you have to remember about it. It takes everything into account to make predictions about results, not who is better. We can't get hung up on it.

Is there a description of their formula anywhere? I tried looking at the FPI page but couldn't find anything. It really makes me think the same way about the allstate playoff predictor. That at this point in the season, the underlying numbers rely more on opinion and a wet thumb in the air, rather than anything substantive.
