Simmons can be childish and his own personal content has certainly taken a decline in the past few years. That being said, Grantland is ESPN's best site, he has a great eye for talent, and he's a really good idea man (30 for 30, etc.).

I bet Simmons is looking around and may not return to ESPN once is contact is up.
Simmons is the best thing ESPN has going right now. 30 for 30 and Grantland are really the only things I care to watch/read from ESPN.

The rest of the country... not just ESPN and me.... disagree with you. Both would be favored over ND on neutral sites as well so does that make ND a not top 20 team? Your glasses are foggy buddy.

The rest of us should never be coupled with those opinions... The fog set in on Tuesday evening with a 5 spot jump, and I'm pretty sure the rest of something is about to go down.

neither Miss team would finish with a winning record in the ACC....

I can almost agree with this statement, only because the ACC does not get much love from the national networks, other than FSU. Kids will play harder when in the prime time spotlight, thus our UND woes at times, and nobody wants to give credit to that. Look at Duke, they have played a great season so far and to an average fan they are Duke who? The guys that know what's up, know exactly what is going on.

Don't really know how ESPN does their FPI. And don't really care one way or the other. But I would take Ole Miss over anybody ranked from #12 on down. I would also take them against three teams from #11 on up. Fourth position in the playoff? No.

As far as Arkansas, they are a pretty decent team that just hasn't found a way to win the big games. Been close, but at some point they will break through. If Stanford is at #20 then I have no problem with Arkansas right there with them.

Just to clarify- the ESPN FPI has Ole Miss #3 (not 4) ahead of undefeated Florida State. This is a team that is 1-2 in three games against decent opponents.

Georgia is #9 with losses against bad South Carolina and Florida teams and best win over Missouri (who lost to IU- granted UGA beat them 34-0).

Oklahoma is also bad at #4...so it doesn't only over-rate SEC teams, but they are clearly the largest beneficiary. The largest factor by far seems to be "SOS"...that should be given consideration but when you are putting a team that has 2 losses over an undefeated team (reigning champs nonetheless) with a "win" over a top 10 opponent (especially with 1/4 season left) that seems to be FUBAR.

I'm going to have to agree with Acamp here /barf. Both Mississippi teams are not that good even though they are both having a great year. I have watched a lot of football this year, I would not mind playing any of them. I think the state of Alabama is where the playoff contenders are in the SEC. I have said it a few times now. I can only see Alabama getting out of there with 1 loss. We'll see I guess.

In going with the idiocy and ridiculously biased nature of ESPN, I have a question....ok, let me preface it with this....ESPN is involved with the SEC Network (clearly, as much as Chris Fowler may ignorantly deny it, ESPN is in the friggin' logo and is the one who hired and pays the talking heads/crews/etc...) and ESPN helped create Texas's Longhorn Network....

WHY THE FRICK DOESN'T NOTRE DAME HAVE A "NOTRE DAME NETWORK" YET??

I'm not saying that they should or would have to pair up with ESPN....in fact, I'd prefer they not....but why are we missing out on this financial goldmine and recruiting tool? Maybe one of you has read something or knows something that I have missed....but I'd sure like an answer....

A "Notre Dame Network" doesn't have to be just about football...but having a place to watch every ND basketball game, baseball, hockey....watch coach's shows....historical games or replays of games....ND has more than enough footage to fill a network and more than a enough eyeballs that would watch....

B1G has their network...ACC has their's....PAC12 has their's....ESPN funds the SEC's and Texas's....I'm not suggesting ND give up their NBC TV contract either; their football TV rights are $$$$.....but to maybe broadcast (some or all) of their away games on there; regardless if they're on ABC or have the rare CBS coverage..... Just curious why we don't have a Network? I think it would be easy money and would help in recruiting for all the other sports because we could guarantee the games being televised....end rant....those are my thoughts and questions....

and ESPN sucks...

Doing it without an existing broadcast partner is crazy. Do you have any idea how much money it would take, just to broadcast a single football game? HD, broadcast quality cameras and operators; an army of electricians just to get all of the equipment wired up correctly; a satellite relay truck; the travel and per diem for all of those people and equipment; the personalities to call the game; the legion of researchers to prepare all of the background material that the announcers use; sound technicians (preferably not the ones that set up today's Gameday system); all of the various other electronics that process the video and audio, and switch back and forth between cameras; I can only imagine what the media types pay for credentials to access facilities like the Press Box and/or field. You are talking about an INCREDIBLY complex undertaking.

That doesn't even take into account the legal side of what you can, or can't, do and say during a live broadcast. And you aren't going to have 24 hour live programming, so you are going to have to have professional studio space, equipment, and operations. There's a ton more money.

Notre Dame is a very wealthy University, but it's not like they can print their own money. There is a limit as to what they can do, financially.

College Football Daily is almost unwatchable. The ESPN SEC love is so over the top. They just did a blind résumé pick for a playoff spot with 3 teams. Everyone agrees- it has to be the 7-2 team with a FPI of 3 (Ole Miss).

What more proof could you possibly need that ESPN is biased toward the sec besides the ESPN FPI. They reference it all the time. SEC has the top 3 and 6 of the top 11. Arkansas is #19!...4-5 Arkansas is 3 spots behind #16 ND.

Clearly the algorithm is broken but they continue to reference it like its the holy grail of metrics.

The FPI is utterly terrible. The reason why it is broken is that it starts with PRE-SEASON BASE RANKINGS that are based on NOTHING and then scales from there. So they started with so many SEC teams (like A&M) ranked high that the whole system is FUBAR.

Did NOT realize this. That's utterly fucking ridiculous. These self-fellating assholes know no bounds.

Then why not keep their partnership with NBC (NBCSports) and go into the venture with them? Keeps the ND home games on NBC....and it would allow for NBC to have unprecedented access to all other ND sports where they can be streamed over the web or on an actual ND network tv channel....

Not all basketball games are televised; and I don't know why....be it men's or women's, our teams are worth watching...and even if you aren't a fan of basketball, but a fan of ND, you're bound to turn it on, if even to catch a score....same thing with hockey....we have an excellent hockey program....what other school could offer nearly every game being nationally televised?? Wouldn't that concept make sense?? My only question is what the ACC would say about an exclusive "ND Network"? The capitalist in me says, it's our name, our brand, our school, our athletes, so it's our content to market and profit from...and i have no doubts we would profit....big time.

I have to think that the option of an ND Network has been explored, and then tabled as not in the best interests of the University. Otherwise, we probably would have one. I can imagine that the idea would have generated a TON of hand-wringing over sports taking over as the main mission of the school. And I can see where that could very well have put the kibosh on the whole thing.

BYU has it's own channel. It's faith based and includes, but isn't limited to, sports.

The flip side is, why would NBC agree to it?

What a joke.

If they had any sack fortitude, they'd be calling out the crappy SEC West.

Their monopolistic approach to the SEC and the bed wetting that takes place in the evil and academic disaster of a division is worthy of the lowest pit of hell.

I have a love hate relationship with them. Some of the shit they say or do is stupid as hell, but at the same time I like their dedication to everything sports.

The B1G contract is up soon, so I'll be curious to see how their stances change/shift when they own both conferences.
