Pass.

NCAA sanctions
On April 16, 2013, the Oregonian reported that the University of Oregon has offered to put its football program on two years probation in response to NCAA violations that allegedly took place during Kelly's tenure as head coach. On June 26, 2013 the NCAA Committee on Infractions issued its report concluding the investigation into Oregon's use of football scouting services. Oregon received 3 years of probation, reduction of scholarships, but no bowl ban. Kelly received an 18-month show-cause penalty, which would make his hiring by another NCAA institution difficult; Kelly had already left the NCAA for the NFL.

I hope he finds gainful employment somewhere in the NFL.

I'm dumb, whats an 18 month show cause penalty? surely it doesn't mean a team would have to hire him, pay him, but wait 18 months to use him

1) If BK bolts for the NFL, ND would be crazy not to at least have a conversation with the guy.

2) All signs point to Chip wants to stay in the NFL, but he may not get hired there.

3) Can't lie and say I wouldn't be excited to see a Chip offense back in college, especially at ND where he can get skill on the outside and at QB.

Any school wishing to hire a coach under a "show cause" designation must appear before the NCAA infractions committee and potentially face new sanctions. No Division I athletic director has ever taken that step. As such, "show cause" usually amounts to a total ban from working at the college level for the duration of the penalty.

What is a "Show Cause" Penalty?

The article is specifically about basketball, but show cause is show cause, regardless of the sport.

I would assume that the show cause would be up by now, yes. But I only offered up the link to what it was. I didn't comment on how it might, or might not, affect ND's possible interest in him.

Kelly will be on the short list for USC or some other west coast college.

You guys kidding me? You afraid of a few scholarship losses and a some minor probation baggage? Its not like hes molesting kids or buying houses for recruits' parents. I'd take him in a heartbeat if BK leaves.

Chip Kelly wouldn't even get past the hiring process. Remember the Frozen Five? Chip Kelly would never give up player discipline to the University....

Wow that's crazy. Kaepernick is basically his prototypical QB. It could work...

More important than a prototypical QB that tells him yes will be a prototypical GM that tells him no.

They literally do not have the talent on either side of the ball to make this work...and Kap may LOOK like his prototypcial QB, but the problem is his decisionmaking and inability to read an entire defense, which will kill him and the team.

Oh, and did I mention that the Niners could cut Kap, save MILLIONS and get Goff at #7 and put those millions save into rebuilding their roster that was decimated by retirement and injuries?

Not that the Niners will do the smart, hell, the SANE thing and let Kap go.

Jhop crazy ass thinks Chip comes home tomorrow

Straight talk, he's a dead man walking in San Francisco and as much as he hates college football it's clearly where he fits best. So maybe he finally comes to his senses, and there's not a better place for him than Oregon if he hops back to college.

I swear I saw a thread at the top of the page with "Fire Kelly" in the title and flipped out for a split second...

I honestly think there's a decent chance his potential second tenure at Oregon is nowhere as good as his first. The Pac-12 North is a lot better as a whole than when he was there last and, frankly, I think the NFL has broken him and his offense.

Reports I heard about two weeks ago, was mgt is okay with him and understand he took over a crappy roster. They're willing to give him some time.
