Apparently the situation currently stands as Golden having an offer on the table which he has roughly ~24-48 hours to accept... if he doesn't Diaco will be offered the position... and the other candidates only come into play if Diaco says "no."

So it appears Notre Dame has a small window here to squash this with a big money, multi-year deal with a big buyout. We'll see what happens.

Per the article, the Ball State Coach Pete Lembo is one of the other candidates. As a Ball State Student it would be sad to see him go, but I would rather him leave as I think he would actually do a pretty good job at BC. I'm just gonna hope they pick the New Orleans O-line coach as I have no stock there.

Yea the BC fanbase is pretty excited about both potentials. I wonder where Golden's mind is right now.. You'd think he'd want to get out of Miami with the hammer on it's way down but you never know.

in business, ive seen guys leave very, very good jobs and work situations for many things: more money, new locale, taking leadership positions etc.

some people are just wired to think, believe and feel that they can get the job done no mattter where they are and no matter what the reality of the situation and circumstance is. it is a blessing and a curse. call it ego, self confidence, stubborness. to these types the grass is always greener and they have this instinct that change is always the right way to go.
there are guys i know are solid "#2s" that think they should be "#1s"...and great salesmen that think they are sales mgrs but come to find out they cant lead anyone and were better served as the lone wolf kickass salesman.

sometimes their is no convincing someone that where they are is the right place for them for current and the future.

sadly most of those associates i know come to regret their decisons to leave a good thing a couple yrs later after they crossed that point of no return rubicon.

diaco should do some serious soul searching before he makes his decision.

Well, no matter how this turns out, I know Jack and BK will make the best of the situation. If it's possible to keep him, I absolutely trust Jack will make it happen. Jack is a big dick playa.

Good news is Bama is in the same boat. Looks like Smart to Auburn is more likely than Diaco to BC.

A thought on Diaco and his job prospects: Does he wait and see what happens at Iowa, his alma mater? Stock only going up next year.

Been thinking about the same thing here Keith. Iowa went 4-8 Including loses to Iowa State, Central Michigan, and Indiana. That happens again Iowa will probably open up. Wait a year.

Bob Diaco? Doesn't sound European, bad fit imo.

Well there seems to be a chance that both teams will have their DCs take a head coaching job so it evens out.

Lembo is a rising star. Very nice guy. He was the first guy I ran into when I went to a coaching clinic the BSU football staff hosted. He came out of a room and greeted me before going back to work. I thought he was just some random friendly staff member. Then 30 minutes later he turns out to be the head coach.

I hope he doesn't go either, but when you're a MAC school, you have to realize that you're the ultimate stepping stone conference.

i understand iowa is his alma mater but methinks he is more a northeast guy than an iowa guy and that has more pull than spending rest of his life in iowa.
what id like really to know is his wife from iowa (or the northeast)?
the wives always have a big say in these things. if she was a jersey/northeast gal my sense is she wants out of midwest. pure speculation but just a thought.
born and raised in north jersey my hunch his overall comfort level/family satisfaction will/would be higher at BC than iowa

Won't be a factor at all. Location didn't stop Fry or Ferentz. There's something about the Iowa coaching job and there is no doubt that Iowa would pay big for a Hawkeye from the Hayden Fry coaching tree.

aren't the facilities just a tad better at a place like Iowa vs BC?

I just want Diaco to make the decision that makes him happy. He deserves it after all he has done for ND. I hope he stays and waits for the Iowa job to open up. But whatever he decides, I will support his decision.

Remember, if BK is going to give him any advise, BK left an undefeated Cinci team to start the ND job. I know it wasn't the NCG, but they were still undefeated and going to a major Bowl if memory serves me correct. And their Asst. Coach took over for the Bowl game. And BK jumped right onto working for ND. So I dont really see how BK has too much argument if Diaco takes the BC job and goes to work for them right away.

If I'm the BC AD, I'm taking Pete Lembo. He is a young guy with a ton of head coaching experience.

I'm looking at Diaco and with rumors that he's waiting for the Iowa job, you may be in the search for a HC again sooner then later. I want stability for my program and someone with head coaching experience. Kromer has limited HC experience (if you want to call it that) in the NFL but does have the accolades as a really good OL coach. NFL OL coach to college HC is a bit of a jump. At least with Lembo, he knows what a HC job entails as he's been doing it for years.

I take my gamble with Lembo.
