And at LSU you are forever being measured against Alabama, which may not be everyone's cup of tea..

Nick Saban agrees.

Saban was 1-4 against Alabama as LSU head coach. He is 9-3 against LSU as Bama's head coach with a current 7 game win streak.

The reason I brought up LSU is because they can pull kids from East Texas, making the job in College Station harder

Yes but LSU also was in major rebuild mode and wasnt the NICK SABAN he is today and when he took the Bama job. LSU was a conference punching bag until Saban built it into the machine that Lesticles inherited.

It appears that Florida is putting in the groundwork to potentially make a run at former Oregon coach and current ESPN analyst Chip Kelly. According to a report from Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel, Florida has begun a "thorough vetting" process of Kelly.

We wrote the day after the firing that the three prime candidates for that position will be UCF's Scott Frost, Chip Kelly and Mississippi State's Dan Mullen. That trio still remains in focus, with sources indicating that a thorough vetting of Kelly has begun. That includes calls to NFL executives to do general background on Kelly and exploration of his NCAA issues at Oregon.

Florida won't contact Frost and Mullen until their seasons are finished. Kelly is a TV analyst BUT NCAA approval is required for Kelly's Show Cause from infractions at Oregon.

If Tennessee is smart they'll just get on the phone and offer the job to David Cutcliffe. He knows that program inside out and is a great football coach. Might not be the sexiest name but he'll stabilize that program and getting it moving in the right direction.

If I'm Florida it's got to be Kelly or Mullen. Frost is too short on experience right now for that job.

Idk, Frost is basically Kelly IMO. He hangs his hat on drawing up flawless ways from week-to-week to get his speedsters the ball in space. There's a shell system, and then there's a million different ways to use that system to make things happen.

Frost only being a head coach for two years isn't going to doom him at a big place like Florida, because the system won't change too much.

Pete Thamel Yahoo Sports Nov 12, 2017, 6:38 PM

Five SEC teams in the market, UF, UTn, ARK, A&M and Ole Miss. UF is at the top of the food chain and should get the top dog.

Three most likely candidates: UCF’s Scott Frost, Chip Kelly and MSSt’s Dan Mullen.

Nebraska will also be looking and will Frost leave Florida's fertile recruiting to come home to mama?

Thamel claims Frost and family(wife) love Orlando. Frost makes $2 mill at UCF with a $4+ mill buyout. McElwain made $4.5 mill at UF.

Nebraska gives Frost leverage. He's gonna cost more than McElwain. Urban Meyer "retired" from UF at $4 mill a couple years back. He came out of retirement for $6.5 mill at OSU.

McElwain is much older with a lengthy background as an assistant but only had 2 years of head coaching experience at CSU before going to the BIGs. Your point of Frost being basically Kelly is valid. So is the UF recent experience with hiring a head coach with a short tenure at lower tier school.

Since Spurrier, .817 Winning %, quit in 2001 there have been 7 head coaches at UF, (3 interims). The only stability was the 5 years of Meyer,.813 Winning %.

Zook, Muschamp, and McElwain had a common denominator, all light on HC experience and were only 7 or 8 wins per season guys. Spurrier and Meyer took UF out of the 7-8 wins per season category.

They usually have great defenses. So much defensive talent coming out of that state every year. Florida defense has not been a problem the past few years. It's been the offense.

C. Kelly is a control freak but he isn't going to have that type of control at Fla. Part of the Gator problems is their Admin. When the emeritus athletic director wants to continue to call the shots instead of fund raise... there is a problem. I would find that a hard environment for him to work in.

The Gators either need Mullen to go back home or take a chance on Frost.

Florida just needs to get a deal done with Dan Mullen. The most logical guy for the job. Tennessee then needs to get either Scott Frost or Mike Norvell. Ole Miss needs to get Neal Brown from Troy.

Don't they need special permission from the SEC or something?

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/f...c-clears-florida-potentially-hire-chip-kelly/

The investigation did determine that Kelly had violated NCAA rules and imposed an 18-month ban from college football on the coach.

The time for the suspension was passed sometime ago, but reports were indicating that the SEC would need to approve Kelly’s entrance into the conference.

It now appears that Florida has the go-ahead from the SEC as of Tuesday.

LOL, how much property do they claim Gruden has bought? He must own most of Knoxville by now.

Knoxville is gonna have a complete meltdown when Tenn introduces their new coach and it isn't Gruden. They really think he is coming THIS TIME...

I kind of feel sorry for them...
