Is Tennessee a better job than OSU? Or A and M?

Right now?? No, neither of them... and they are about par with each other... imo if any of the three should be held higher it's OSU. now maybe there is some endowment or level of pay each school is willing to go that I'm not aware of but everything else taken into account? I'd never leave OSU for UT and probably not for A&M. Just me.

I'd say that TN has a much higher ceiling, and higher floor. But right now, I agree, they are all pretty equal.

I agree. That is part of why I don't get this Gundy to UT talk. If this is real, he must really be unhappy with something at OSU.

Gundy isn't going to boat race anyone in the SEC like he does in the Big 12. That said, expectations are probably higher at TN, and there probably is a bit more money to be made there as a result. It will be definitely harder to win though. I would say it probably is easier to get some athletes to come to TN too over OSU. Some of these recruits were almost born the last time TN won a national championship, they have a richer history. Before Gundy did anyone pay much attention to OSU? Maybe when Barry was there.

He probably would be better served staying in Stillwater unless he's chasing more money. I don't see him having more success.

After hearing Gruden rumors to Tennessee over the last 3 coaching searches, Notre Dame and countless other openings ..... Do you think that this will finally put an end to Gruden rumors in the future??? How many times can his name be mentioned without it at some point becoming a joke.

I thought it was already a joke. And so do most college football fans. But the Vols believed.

You think the floor is higher at UT than OSU?

Interesting thought process, but UT has to play UGA / UF / Bama each year, with at least one decent OOC game to go along with the rest of their SEC schedule. Not exactly the West, but not exactly Big Ten West either.

At OSU, TCU can be up or down, Texas has been meh, so you are really left with OU and their OOC is a joke.

So realistically, a coach of equal caliber, should have more wins at OSU than UT IMO. Teams might not be better, but record should be.

When I say a higher floor, I mean the team can be down, but it's still a place with a decent history, and is going to be a more desirable place for recruiting. Not counting this year, UT has had success against UGA. FL has gotten the best of them, but FL has also won the East a few times in the last five years. I'm still not sold on UGA with their kinda new coach, or FL with Mullen. I like Mullen, but it's not like he ruled the SEC West (best finish was second I think only one year, and the rest were 4th or 5th place in the West), or even close to it. He had one ten win season, and barely beat Miami of Ohio last year in a bowl. Again, I like him, but him going to FL should not scare anyone.

At OSU, you're not even number one in the state. He's only won the conf once, and I think it was a tie. You have to go back to the days when they were in the Mizu Valley Conf to find consistent success. The facilities are not near UT's. They will rarely win a recruiting battle for in state kids vs OK, and lose as many IIRC to TX and some of the other TX teams. I've never been to Boone Pickens, but I doubt it compares. It's just not sexy. At least at TN you are number one in state, and you can say you are in the SEC. And get paid.

I guess the point is that the competition in the SEC makes it as such that any coach will have to battle to consistently win 9 games a year, history or not. The path to 9 or 10 wins is much easier at OSU than UT.

Facilities are subjective, but OSU just finished upgrades two years ago and go some great pub for it. UT is very nice too, but I wouldn't call it "not near". Pickens has invested quite a bit.

Recruiting - agree.

Sexy - agree

Getting paid - Disagree. Gundy makes $3.8m I believe, compared to Butch who made $4.1m I think. Sure, he could make $6m, but at what cost? While the SEC is "sexy", it comes with price....insane pressure. If you were over 50, had a contract that automatically renewed each year with salary increases, and had a job that in, in the world of major CFB, is relatively low pressure, all while getting paid ~$4m per year to do it, why would you leave? It's as comfortable as you will get in P5 CFB.

If I'm Kiffin, I'm not sure I would want the Tennessee job, unless all I cared about was the money.

Right now there appears to be a strong movement of Vol fans embracing the thought of Kiffin returning. This has very little to do with what Lane has done as a head coach. It's primarily because Vol fans are desperate. The desperate fan tells himself I can overlook how Lane screwed us over the first time. The problem is that if Lane struggles at all in year 1 and 2 those same fans that convinced themselves that they could overlook Lane's past transgressions, will turn on him so fast that it will make his head spin.

I don't know if the Tennessee administration would give him a short leash, but I can almost guarantee you that the Vol fan base will.
I'm not sure how Kiffin "screwed" Tennessee. Yeah he was only there a year but he was offered his dream job. The HC job at USC>>>>the HC job at Tennessee and that is not even accounting for that being his dream job. I always thought that sounded like sour grapes from Vols fans.

What Mullen did in Starkville is unprecedented in the history of the program. I believe Mullen has half of all of MSU's bowl wins in their entire history in his 8 years there. MSU is a poor school in a poor state with zero history of winning. The fact that he was able to win as much as he did coaching against Alabama, Auburn, and LSU every single year is a miracle. Seriously, MSU may have been the worst "Power 5" school in the country when Mullen went there.

Mullen was the engine behind Florida's success during the Meyer years. He recruited and developed Tebow. I watched damn near every Gator game in 2009 after Mullen left town (married into a family of Gator fans) and their offense was notably worse after he left. If you look at it, in the 8 years after Mullen left the Gators went from the best offense in the SEC to utter garbage.

Chip Kelly was the splashier hire and would have put up massive numbers but Mullen is a great freaking coach and is going to pay huge dividends for Florida.

Nothing against Schiano, but I have a hard time taking anything as truth from someone in the Penn State family. So the Freeh report is complete fiction then? I find it interesting that they used that quote: "A lie doesn't become truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good, just because it's accepted by a majority." So...if the Penn State faithful believe Joe Pa was completely innocent, does that mean he wasn't necessarily innocent? If they believe there was no cover up...I'm confused....
