They actually didn't really make a move on Mullen surprisingly. Foley identified McElwain as his guy and went after him.
I've heard that Mullen doesn't get along with the new AD at Florida. Don't know how true that may be.
If I'm Florida, I call him immediately if Chip Kelly doesn't want the job.

My money is on Florida luring Gruden, but it would be a risk as he hasnt coached in awhile. As for Chip he will wait for a west coast job.
Didn't Mullen essentially turn down florida several years ago when they hired McElwain?
I don't think Chip Kelly is as hot of a commodity as many seem to think. He was great to step in at oregon, but he also had that handed to him on a silver platter. He's never built a program. Most of the football world has caught up his offense. Some of his "innovations" like early morning practices have been banned by the ncaa, I believe. He has SERIOUS baggage and was a pretty unethical dude. He may get a job a blue blood program, but I'd be surprised. IF he comes back to coaching in college, my guess is that it's at a 2nd or 3rd tier program.

Nah that guy had the clout to get the job he wants, not who will take him.
Florida is stacked with talent. And high schoolers don't giver a hoot about his talent. It'd be quite the coup for Florida.
Dan Mullen would be a very unexciting hire, so naturally I hope that happens.

I don't understand the Mullen hype. Every time people want BK fired he's one of the first names brought up and my reaction is always meh. What has he ever done at MSST? A few early season runs before they hit the meat of their SEC schedule, after which they promptly fall off the map.
Wonder if Taggart would leave Oregon after just one season. Strong's lack of success at Texas might hurt him even though I think he'd be a great hire for them. He'd kill it recruiting the state of Florida. Tennessee blew it before the Derek Dooley hire. All they had to do was give the job to David Cutcliffe but they demanded that he interview for the job so he said forget it. That AD is no longer there.

Gone
UF 3-4, 3-3 in the SEC McElwain's gone
Interim Coach
Miss 3-5, 1-4 Freeze was gone preseason. Matt Luke has one year interim contract
Possibles
UTN 3-5, 0-5 Butch Jones
A&M 5-3, 3-2 Kevin Sumlin Auburn, LSU, Miss, and SMU remaining. I doubt 7-5, 2-2 cuts it.
Arkansas 3-5, 1-4 Bert Bielema
Auburn 6-2, 4-1 Gus Malzahn Plays ALA & UGA next month. AU has lost the last 3 years to both teams.
If a school had money to spend on HC and a rock star OC, Miles would be very attractive to some.
I gotta think Sumlin is done now. Not having a QB all season roasted him. His team hasn't looked bad at times, but they need a qb.
Imagine if he has recruited two top QB's a few years back. ...
Yes, Sumlin is history. Still has LSU in Baton Rouge. Abysmal home record vs SEC opponents, and besides 1st year in SEC TAMO usually ranks 4th in division.
Yes, QB problem is an issue, partly stemming from losing multiple QBs via transfer past several years, leaving them with 2 frosh. Watch for Chad Morris from SMU as a candidate for this job.
With TAMU, Baylor, and UT all struggling, TCU is best in State.
If you were an up and coming, young, ball coach and had a choice of the likely SEC jobs, what would you take?
Texas A&M? Tennessee? Florida? Ole Miss? Arkansas?
I think I'd go to Aggieland where they spend the money and have a good recruiting base against a state where the competition is hurting.
Florida would be tempting.
I know he's "quirky," but the guy's a good football coach who has won a ton of games. Pair Les with the right OC and I'd take him over most of the other likely options if I'm, say, Ole Miss or A&M.
My thoughts exactly. He's a good guy too.

I just can't see a hot program that has a cash reserve being proud to present Les Miles as the next coach.
He's probably a good guy and has won some games. If I had to sit around and watch the Florida offense look like a retirement community 7 on 7 offense for the last decade, Les Miles is not what I would want to see.
Speaking of great guys, Charlie Strong may be a good fit for them though.
