The content of the post seemed more apropos for the Kelly Revisited thread as almost all of them were ranked in AP Top 25 and merit consideration as possible Kelly replacements.

I was looking at it more from a "yesterday's doghouse to today's CotY list. Strong, Richt, fired and within a year or so, being on a watch list. I did post in BK revisited as well as it all connects to me.

University of Florida administrators discussing if they can fire coach Jim McElwain following his claims his family and players received death threats.

Edward Aschoff Mark Schlabach 5:55 CT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- University of the Florida administrators are discussing whether they can fire coach Jim McElwain with cause, multiple sources told ESPN.

Surely it's coincidence that UF Administrator look to get out of McElwain's $13 million buyout by claiming "fake news" death threat hours after UF got whipped 42-7 by UGA.

Perhaps they could take offense at the Gator's lack of offense.

McElwain is trash. Horrible hire for Florida. They have enough talent on that team to be contending. The right coach could right the ship relatively fast, but they've missed on consecutive hires.

I'll bet Campbell at Iowa State has Oprah money thrown at him this winter.

Wouldn't want to coach in the SEC, can't lose any games without getting death threats or being fired

Was some noise they would try and make it for cause. Citing the death threats comment. How would that work?

So did he make up the death threats or did they not like him making it public?

University is claiming they couldn't substantiate/verify the threats, so maybe they never happened. Seems fortuitous for florida that this happened while their football team is gross and just got smoked by a rival.

Scott Frost may be the top candidate that emerges nationally for the entire coaching carousel. Not sure who else programs like a&m, tennessee, and florida would want to take a flyer on. It's a bad year to be looking for a replacement, worse than last year. Maybe even somebody like Charlie Strong reemerges?

Dan Mullen makes a ton of sense. Ran Urban's offense at UF, has been a HC in the SEC now for 9 years. His DC Todd Grantham was DC at Georgia so he's very familiar with the SEC East. Mullen certainly knows the recruiting landscape in Florida. Knows how to develop a QB's like Dak Prescott and now Nick Fitzgerald.

LOL, the rumors will start that Gruden bought property in Knoxville or someone saw his plane at the airport.

You are late to the party. The Gruden reports of buying property close to Knoxville started at least two weeks ago. Not even joking. Supposedly has been confirmed, but lots of speculation as to why. Of course, most are buying the theory that he is coming to coach. The other reports are that they are buying a property for their son to live in while he finishes college. The other is that they want to get a place kind of close to his wife’s parents since they are getting up in age etc.

My personal theory is that Gruden only seems to look for property when UT has open position. I think he uses it for leverage and to stir up a frenzy giving him a nice ego boost.

LOL, not surprised. Heard he bought "confirmed" property during last search.

Bruce Feldman has a piece on SI basically calling Mullen the obvious pick, with Willie Taggart and Charlie Strong right behind him (though I'd probably go with one of those two if they'd come). Florida will have choices.
Nebraska, though, they'd better hope for Scott Frost or maybe the Iowa State guy. And Tennessee, man, I don't know.

Wonder if Taggart would leave Oregon after just one season. Strong's lack of success at Texas might hurt him even though I think he'd be a great hire for them. He'd kill it recruiting the state of Florida. Tennessee blew it before the Derek Dooley hire. All they had to do was give the job to David Cutcliffe but they demanded that he interview for the job so he said forget it. That AD is no longer there.

That was pretty much Feldman's analysis. If I'm Florida, I might go after Strong. Good coach. Knows what UF is about. Figure he learned something running an elite program and can recruit the hell of out of Fla. Taggart might have jumped a year early. Mullen's fine but probably stayed too long at Mississippi State.

Didn't Mullen essentially turn down florida several years ago when they hired McElwain?

I don't think Chip Kelly is as hot of a commodity as many seem to think. He was great to step in at oregon, but he also had that handed to him on a silver platter. He's never built a program. Most of the football world has caught up his offense. Some of his "innovations" like early morning practices have been banned by the ncaa, I believe. He has SERIOUS baggage and was a pretty unethical dude. He may get a job a blue blood program, but I'd be surprised. IF he comes back to coaching in college, my guess is that it's at a 2nd or 3rd tier program.
