I don't mind that he was a jerk. The problem is that he was a jerk AND its been repeatedly shown since he was fired that he has a super thin skin. If you're going to dish it and say "I don't care if people want to hear it" then I don't want to read sob stories the next 10 years about how much you weren't liked by the administration and how "its not fair".

Ok.... We've gotten to the point where "Charlie Weis" has been referred to as "thin"....

The season can start now...

So him being a big meanie to you one time in passing should result in an eternity of him rotting in hell?

You must be very important...

Didn't know you would take the "rot in hell" statement literally. He also isn't used to flush a vagina but you knew that was a sarcastic comment.

Maybe it's your sarcasm that could use some work?

Also this:

is reason enough to hate him.

Yup. Fuck him. I have no problem saying that.

well i agree with wooly. nothign about your original comment came off as sarcasm. especially when you follow it up with "stand by what i said"

Sorry you and Wooly are offended by my choice of words. Had many dealings with him and he was always an arrogant, obnoxious jerk who felt he was better than anyone and anything and everyone around him should be grateful to just be in his presence. Treated all of us like dirt. Was very glad to see him go and the quote greyhammer posted about their "annual toast" from the article says it all. When people say "go to hell" and "rot in hell" I have never taken it literally thinking they would be banned for all eternity.

Correct. Once again, my bad. Sarcasm was wrong choice of word. Whatever the word is when you say things to emphasize a point without meaning it literally. I'm a finance guy not an English guy.

I don't hate Charlie, not terribly fond of him either. I think he did try, but was inexperienced. That's not his fault, it's White's for hiring the wrong guy...but he was good at that. I don't necessarily agree that Charlie is blameless for the contract, because it's extremely likely he and his agent started the rumors of NFL teams contacting him after the USC game. He used it as leverage, and White bought it hook, line, and sinker. In essence I think White should be equally blamed for any misfortune Charlie brought to ND.

That aside, I think people are right when they say Charlie helped bring down some barriers. I think he did help setup Kelly for future success, and Charlie certainly didn't leave the cupboard completely bare the way Ty did when he left. To be honest, I wonder if things would have gone differently if Ty hadn't torpedoed the program before he left. Charlie was left with little in talent at the upperclassmen level in '07. He got by in '05 and '06 using players Davie recruited at the end of his tenure, and some of the gems in 2002 that jumped on the train after Ty's hot start. After that the recruits started drying up, and so the upperclassmen by 2007 were weak as a class. It's easy to see how that helped contribute to such an awful season, but Charlie certainly could have done a better job too...the QB roulette that season certainly didn't help.

He's just another ND coach imo... I have good and bad memories of every coach since at least Holtz, I don't hate or overly dislike any of them...

None...

but all had/have a thing or two that was,... well, unfortunate.

Spare me your reasons to hate ____. For extra clarity, and extra fuel that may flame some internal fires,... BK is just another coach too... I like him, don't overly love him... definitely don't hate him, but there are things that are also in the realm of, 'unfortunate"....

so the world turns...

I don't dislike Charlie for being a bad coach. I dislike him for acting like a victim and complaining about being mistreated as an alumni of the University when all he can do is bitch and moan about ND. It's pathetic.

Sums it up for me...I liked Chuck just fine. I think he is a typical dude from Jersey. Crusty, annoying at times, some underlying insecurity...makes for some humor, and usually some achievement in life. shrug.

I think chuck was a D coordinator who could recruit away from success at ND. He could manufacture points, for sure. He just could not stop ...anyone.

Had dealings with him personally. Stand by what I said.

So you were the one that put the For Sale signs in his yard? Got it.

You should always invite a neighbor to the neighborhood Christmas party, bro.

This is where I'm at. I don't begrudge him one bit for the contract. If I was in his position, I'd get as much as I could.

I don't think I've rooted for an ND coach to succeed more than Weis. Mostly because I was terrified of what was going to happen if he didn't succeed. I thought for sure we would end up with Randy Edsall or somebody who further drive the program into mediocrity. I still feel lucky that Kelly was available and accepted the job at the time even if he's not on the Saban/Urban level.

I think Weis should have stayed in the NFL or college as a coordinator for awhile instead of jumping back into head coaching.

Also the whole "my wife will never step foot on that campus again" thing is sort of cheesy when the school paid your family over $20 million.

the Giants went to parcells for his opinion when they were considering charlie back in the day...basically Parcells told them don't do it, that he was no head coach, "a #2 guy" (his words)...he said there was "something off" with him.

Stealing this from another thread but in 07 and 08 we lost games where we scored ZERO 3 times, 3 points twice, and 7 once.

in 07, he couldn't have scored with 1980 Walter Payton in the backfield. The offensive line was SOOOO bad. The '08 team was significantly better, and again in '09.

Look at it this way...he was over 30 PPG for 3 of his 5...thats PLENTY of offense. His scoring defense was never better than 50th, and had more years 60+ than 60-. The two years he wasn't 30+in scoring offense...07 (16.4 ppg) and 08 (24.7 ppg), his scoring defense was 73rd and 55th respectively...I can't put '07 and '08 all on Chuck.

They guy could score points at ND...
