I can't see this as anything but an oversight by the government. If they aren't letting their own citizens have events of over 5,000 then how the hell are they going to allow tens of thousands of foreigners to come in from one of the worst hit countries?

Irish Government is financially invested in the event. They are a major shareholder in the organizing company. I am guessing here but will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I am shocked myself. Cannot see there is any chance of it happening. I know it’s 4 months away but we are in strict lockdown here and can only go for exercise within 2km of the house and to shop fo food. They are talking about extending the lockdown for another 2 weeks after next weekend. Nobody is expecting to be able to travel outside of the country this summer and the airlines are inundated with requests for refunds. How 20,000-30,000 people will fly in seems incredible. I would be devastated myself if it is called off but I retire in 15 months time and hope to give myself a retirement present of a trip to South Bend.

Ireland entered Phase 1 of 5 Phases of loosing in of restrictions and only 4 reported COVID19 deaths from Friday to Monday. Things are looking good as long as the population keeps their shit together going forward.

Can you elaborate more? I’ve got flights to Ireland for this game.

Ireland may decide next week to speed up the reopening plan

DUBLIN (Reuters) - Ireland may decide next week to speed up the reopening of its economy if coronavirus infections remain at the current low level, Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Wednesday.

Ireland partially eased stay-at-home restrictions last week, in the first of five stages that constitute one of Europe’s most conservative plans for rolling back a lockdown imposed in late March.

Restaurants are set to open in late June, with hairdressers and hotels to follow in July and pubs in August. But Varadkar’s caretaker government is coming under pressure from business and some politicians to accelerate the timetable.

The government has said it is open to allowing parts of the economy to restart ahead of schedule if the virus remains under control but Varadkar said it would not be clear until next week if the first phase has proceeded smoothly.

“If we see that the numbers are still going very much in the right direction in the first week of June... then we can have some confidence in bringing forward some of the things in the later phases,” he told parliament.

The number of new COVID-19 cases, the respiratory disease caused by the virus, has stayed below 100 for 10 of the last 11 days, while Ireland reported no daily coronavirus-related deaths on Monday for the first time since March.
Health Minister Simon Harris also said the number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals fell to 218 from 278 on Tuesday.

Pubs, hotels and hairdressers have all pushed to be allowed to open sooner. Michael O’Leary, the boss of airline Ryanair, added his weight on Wednesday.

“It’s ridiculously restrictive,” he told the Newstalk radio station. “There is no reason for Ireland being the most locked down country in the western world when we’ve been one of the best performers in dealing with COVID.”

Ireland had zero deaths reported Monday for the first time since the outbreak began. The lockdown is very strict but adhered to by American standards and is enforced by the Gardai (Police Service)

I'm not mad about the move to Annapolis. I'm now really interested in going. Big question is how many fans will they let in?

This was my thought, I would love to check out Annapolis and that game day experience but I wonder if it will even be possible.

I could see the third party ticket value erupt based on volume in a normal year (34k), imagine if it is only 50% capacity.

I hope they prioritize those who had tickets to Dublin and expect they will.

I am pretty sure that their will be no fans considering how small the stadium is 34,000 seats and MD's republican liberal governor won't have sports opened up yet.

I saw a cyron on ESPN that the game has been postponed. Was that an error because I do not see it reported on ESPN.com or anywhere else?

Next year's game should be a home game for Navy. If Dublin is out, how about Jacksonville?

No, this year was a home game for Navy. 2021 should be in South Bend again.
