It sounds like Jaylon's athleticism with Manti's size, strength and attitude.

ISD said he looks much, much more athletic than Manti and that he's more physical than Jaylon. He's making the right reads and shooting the right gaps. He's walking around with the swagger of a veteran and leader of the defense. What an amazing transformation he's made in the last few months...

They also said that Bilal and Barajas are a few paces back of the other linebackers. Ideally Bilal will end up at SAM with Coney at WILL, and Morgan at MIKE. Holy athletes.

They said that. Then they immediately said it again. They were clear they aren't joking or backing down from that comment.

Plus Martini can play at 3 positions if needed, great luxury

Now... if they would have said, "he looks much, much more athletic than Jaylon and more physical than Manti" then I would have fell out of my chair.

Still, quite the compliment. I'm excited for him.

So you're saying that he wasn't playing at this high of a level, during the season last year?

I'm not sure that it should come as a surprise that he looks more athletic than Manti or more physical than Jaylon. His scouting report coming out of high school basically stated as much. Whether he will be as effective as either of them remains to be seen.

Very fair and again, I think we should all wait to see it on Saturdays.

But there was a vibe when they said it, and it wasn't just matter of fact. They made it sound like he's the scouting report we kind of knew about, but also is putting it all together and it's showing on the field.

This.

Martini really surprised me on the field last year. I was not very impressed with his high-school film and assumed he'd never see the field outside of special teams. To have him as the back-up LB at both inside positions is comforting.

anyone irked by the inclusion of Morgan's interaction with Elston in this video? The whole narrative of the video seems to be that Nyles has turned a corner and has become the QB of the defence yet it has a scene where he is sarcastically berated by his position coach. Just seems kind of strange to me, why are they building him up and then knocking him down??

*Elston not Denbrook

I thought the part with Elston* was actually a good inclusion. Nyles talks about how he's still learning, and they show an example of him actively in that process as he questions his coach with the "are you sure?"

(I would never ask my coach "Are you sure?", but I think it's good that Nyles feels like he's in a spot to ask for clarification on something, even if he doesn't choose the best wording. But I'm also generally a glass half-full guy.)

Agree...I was fine with the exchange. A year ago Nyles may not have even asked the question or asked for clarification. This was good.

Are you talking about the interaction where Morgan describes the formation he saw, says that they were in Yellow, and then Denbrock corrects him on what the formation actually was?

If so, where are you seeing Morgan being "berated"? I saw a coach that very calmly corrected a player's reading of the offensive formation.

I'm afraid to post the vibe I got from listening to ISD about this guy. They've only seen him in practice, but they make it sound like he could be better than a couple of recent LBs we've had.

Ah yes, spring practice when everyone is a Heisman candidate and a NC is in the cards.

I do like that he has shown a lot of progress. I'm guessing between the end of last season and spring practice he had one of those moments of clarity where he knew he had to "sh!t or get off the pot!"

I always enjoy when you hear pundits talk about how bigger and/or faster our guys are from the previous year. I estimate by 2025 we'll have an entire squad that resembles the Incredible Hulk, no one will stand a chance.

i would hope that they are...that's why they have strength and conditioning second to only olympics and professional athletes...and maybe even trump some professionals

i do understand what you're saying though how everyone appears to be destined to be superstars and end up being exactly who we thought they were

This should go over well. Been a while since we've had an offseason tweet to try to decipher.

Could be anything. He did tweet something last week about "God save my grade for me"
Hoping he didn't goof academically. Also tweeted about some a relationship thing. Perhaps he broke up with a chick.

Please make it a chick and not grades.

I'd put money on he's talking about some girl

Certainly hope so.
They did have final exams at Notre Dame last week though, so probably getting grades this week. An ominous time for ominous tweets.

I followed and unfollowed him within the same day because of how much he tweeted like 2 years ago. Doesn't he tweet like 200 times a day? Probably something small if so since he'll tweet about cereal from what I remember.

If that was the case it's changed drastically. He tweets maybe 5 times a day.
