Eric Hansen posted this on twitter. The #NotreDame defense wakes up today 54th nationally in total defense, 49 spots higher than the day DC Brian VanGorder was fired.
Some of that has to do with circumstances like weather and opponents but no doubt about it, he was the problem.
Thank you so much BVG for derailing this season before it even started. And thank you very much Brian Kelly for not firing BVG after last season and letting the ass hat stick around this year and poison the entire team!
Agree that NC State game helped stats due to weather and Stanford game helped defensive stats because they are anemic on offense.
But Miami has a pretty good offense with an NFL QB and a lot of speed and athletes at WR and RB. And the defense played real well especially considering the tough situations special teams put them in. Side note I was looking forward to seeing Yearby play, he was a big time recruit. He plain stunk it up, I know they have a crap line, but he didn't look strong or fast.
Syracuse has a pretty good offense also and ND in the first game post BVG did really well in the second half. Again special teams contributed to a few points for Syracuse.
We have an unusually thin senior class this year. But, yeah. We lost so much experience and leadership. Not sure why we didn't work harder last year to keep guys like KVR and Prosise.
Looking at this year, I'm not sure who would leave eligibility on the table. Cole Luke and Jarron Jones are done regardless, right? I know Rochell is.
I could see Hunter and Folston leaving but that would have as much to do with younger guys surpassing them as it would with their draft potential. And both are true seniors, who'll graduate this spring, making it a harder sell to stay.
assuming McGlinchey and Nelson stay, the only real wild card is Kizer.
On defense J Jones, Rochelle, James O and Cole Luke are gone. On offense no ones eligibility is up. Possibilities: Hunter Jr, Folston, McGovern, Big Mike, Q, Bivin, Smythe, Kizer.
Hunter Jr may decide to i with baseball.
Folston I can def see him going to Auburn to be the man. Especially since he nearly switched to Auburn in the 24th hour during recruitment.
