If 40 points, and 500 yards is "absurd", what would "good" look like, to you?
Total points is a function of pace of play. It's not like we were marching down the field and decisively punching it in.

Yeah... but give me 40 points every game and I will take my chances. We all have been tough on Kelly and his decisionmaking in the game, but we should be looking across the other side of the line and be asking why a defense can give up 43 to NW. That's the bigger issue IMO.

Agreed, though the four turnovers by the offense is rough as well. Can't win when you keep turning the ball over.

I never claimed that Kelly's play calling was brilliant. But we did put up 500 yards, and that's a pretty good day at the office. How good is certainly debatable, but I don't think that it being "borderline absurd" is even debatable, let alone defensible.

This game really made me wonder but I have not, to this point, asked for BK's head. What gets me is a lot of the same things you guys have. What really bothers me is ..get this.. would we be anywhere near this good without him??? Let that sink in..

Would we be in the NC convo this year without BK? WHat about 2012? Would EG be here? As some are saying, "PUT IN MALIK!!!". Well.... would Malik be a Golden Domer?

STFU!! We sucked and BK, IMO, is to blame. I also blame him for 2012 and the reason I believe. I don't want Chuck back and neither do you. Let's calm down and understand we are young. Time caught up... FUCK USC!!!

EDIT: I blame BK for all GOOD we have had in last 5, It far outweighs the bad...

I don't know where you're going with your argument. Kelly is a good recruiter, but his in-game adjustments so far have been piss poor, and that extends past just this year. He was awful from year 1 to year 4. This is year five for Christ sake, and he's still having trouble getting his players set in time? Still having trouble calling the right play? Jesus man. It doesn't take a recruiting wiz to get players to come to ND, but for the love of God, can Kelly hire somebody that knows how to call a damn play?

OK, a little different perspective. With suspensions and now injuries ondefense, the youth on defense is starting to show more late in the season. Also, at some point juniors and seniors have to be accountable for their own turnovers. The Kellys fault or captain of the ship analogy only takes you so far. BKelly did not fumble or throw any picks. Not having an elite athlete like Redfield out there hurt. Collingsworth looked about 75% and tentative due to injury.

You make zero sense. When was the last delay of game penalty? What was a piss poor in game adjustment? Please explain.

All the Wrong Moves

All the Wrong Moves

There were gaffes aplenty today, from physical errors to mental mishaps.

However, I do not understand the failure to kick the extra point to make it a 2 TD game and the unnecessary handoff leading to the ill-fated fumble at the end of the game.

It reminds me of the coaching blunder by Coach (Craig T. Nelson) of Ampipe HS when he inexplicably called for a handoff on his own goaline during a torrential downpour leading to the fumble by Salvucci and the losing TD in the playoff game. This was followed by the classic crying by Salvucci in the post-game locker room scene and confrontation between Cruise and Nelson.

Yet, no matter how disastrous/disappointing/embarrassing the result of this game was, we will all be watching next week. It is what I/we do.

We had freshmen up the defensive middle for a lot of the game. The defense as a unit is raw, and massive losses of depth during the season, and this game, have left them thin. I do not know the Max situation, but doubt his presence would have made much difference. Joe Schmidt was the glue.

This thread is the epitome of today's society. When in doubt, just blame the guy on top. Did Kelly make some iffy calls? Sure. But for the trolls on here who are saying this the worst day in ND Football, get a grip. Anyone care to remember 2007? You do realize the Irish were in the Title game 2 years ago, right? Did he have nothing to do with that? They have turned it over 23x this year, which I'm sure is all Kelly's fault, right.

What knight in shining armor is going to do better than Kelly that's not named Saban or Meyer?

I can't argue with facts as well as many on here so forgive me with basics...

- OC is NEW

- DC is NEW

- Golson is in 2nd year with EVERYTHING new

- LINE is NEW

- BK finally put starters on ST

- BVG runs a scheme that is tough to handle 1 year in with rookies

- 9 freshman

I don't have anything I can add but I am PROUD as a fan that ND made me believe this year. With Drue Tranquill running around and Nyles Morgan getting his shot, I had a sense of "Hope" for our future. Knowing we have a chance going forward with the talent we have. I could not be more proud that Jaylon made the 15 cut and Day is spoke of as highly as he is. Golson was in the running and we shut out Michigan. Life is good for me considering I was hoping for 8-4. Honestly, I hope we win a bowl against SEC. That's all I want now.

You sir, need to redirect your attention in my opinion. Stop bitching about the negativity and see the good in what we have.

I would love to give EG the Rees treatment but we wouldn't be where we are without him. I would love to give BK the Chuck Weis treatment but wouldn't be where we are without him.

Let me ask you this, NDsean44... what is your point? What would be ideal for you? What would be the best thing to happend to ND for you? Give us that so we can better understand you on this board. I think you bring a lot of knowledge but give us the real shit!

Who is your coach?

What is your recruiting class?

What is your defense?

What is your offense?

Who is your OC?

Who is your DC?

Do you believe it is realistic?

Let us know your 'TEAM" for ND...

I'm not even reading through this thread. You all will be singing a different toon next year when EG is a senior.

Kelly did not man up on the 2 point call
He said his chart was go for one and it was essentially a coin flip to go for two...

a coin flip!

as in heads we go for one tails I'm an idiot

i'm sure he won't take the blame for no victory formation by blaming turnovers for the loss

Come on Brian

He'll take blame for everything, and own it. Shut up and be patient...This is not the year, obviously. Next year will be it.

Next year this. Next year that. Next year we will have Golson....
Dissapointment doesnt even cover my feelings over this season. There are some systemic and institutional issues with this program and I have to put that squarely on Kelly. Some of these calls are borderline insane. He speaks about attention to detail yet our boys constantly make mental erors and costly tos game after game. Just disgusted.

You disgust me, see how that works? I'm disgusted as much as anyone.

Put whatever big word you'd like on Kelly. This is truly his worst lose...you don't think he knows that?

You are all over the place tonight. Attacking other members who are frustrated and then ripping on our defense just as bad in other threads. Step away from the keyboard.

This game is squarely on Kelly.
1. He runs a jet sweep with a wideout who fumbles the ball at the goal line. Use your RB inside the five.
2. TF is running well. He put a cold McDaniel in the game who proceeds to fumble.
3. He goes for two? What the heck was that about? Kick the ball and you still win.

This teams youth is starting to show. What I can't figure out is how the defense played so well the first half of the season has played so poorly the last four games? Our open field tackling needs to be worked on. Too many guys simply trying to strip the ball instead of getting on the runners legs.

As bad as Kelly was today my two biggest worries are still turnovers and the defense.

Kelly needs to learn a bit of patience at times. Too quick to pass. I like having an offense that can put up points quickly though.

When the broadcasting group says they are running the ball right a them and they are picking up good amount of yards but Kelly throws because he can is a bit troubling.

Exactly. Where has ND ever just run the ball down someone's throat under Kelly? I've heard him say "you have to take what they give you", but he abandons the run quickly. I just wanted to get Zach Martin off the sidelines and into the game. Is that legal?
