Girl is asking for donors to pay for her law school because God told her she shouldn't take out loans. Would make a new thread on this but I know it will derail into a theology debate quickly....

Amazing. What can I say, I hope it works out for her.

Did I miss it, or did she kind of gloss over the part where God specifically told her not to take out student loans? I'm anxious to know more about that aspect of the Word of God.

Bible is the word of God, yo.

"Owe no one anything, except to love each other,
for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law."
-Romans 13:8

"The Lord WILL open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season
and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow."
-Deuteronomy 28:12

I'm coming off as a douche bag so nobody neg rep me please. Just don't like people who do something like this.

Nice. I will give you POSITIVE reps because I love some good Bible quoting. Did she quote those verses somewhere I missed, or was that all gkIrish?

Bob McDonnell, former governor of Virginia, went to Regent Law. You might call his legacy uncertain, at present:

Proverbs 22:7
"The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender."

Proverbs 22:26-27
"Do not be one of those who shakes hands in a pledge, one of those who is surety for debts; if you have nothing with which to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?"

Psalms 37:21
"The wicked borrows and does not repay, but the righteous shows mercy and gives."

Luke 14:28-30
"For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it--lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish'?"

Wow, more great stuff. That passage from Luke is astonishing. That is exactly how many buildings are built nowadays, in stages with no guarantee that the money to complete the project will be available when the time comes to pay it, and I've read often since 2008 of construction projects left unfinished when the money to pay for them dried up. Secular society is more wicked than I realized.

My brother in law had Muslim neighbors growing up who refused to take out loans to build their house (I believe paying interest is prohibited by sharia law?), so they built it a room at a time. It was awfully goofy looking for a long time, according to my brother in law, but credit to them for sticking to their principles in a society where taking out a loan for housing is a very normal thing.

Reps for finding those verses, wizards (although to be fair, some may have more to do with lending/usury than borrowing, but still, close enough).

I took the Illinois bar in 2012 and used Examsoft and it worked perfectly. I can only imagine what a shitshow this must have been on what is already a horribly stressful day.

Hopefully everyone got it figured out and more importantly, passed the bar.

Didn't really impact NY to the extent where anyone would be nervous since we had over 24 hours to upload the exam but I couldn't upload my essays until 11pm and after 100 attempts... I know in Ohio they had to be uploaded the same day before 1030 and the extension wasnt given until just before 10. A lot of my friends were pretty edgy for a while lol

Hey Rack em, are you thinking of joining in that lawsuit against ExamSoft? ExamSoft Sued In Illinois « Above the Law: A Legal Web Site – News, Commentary, and Opinions on Law Firms, Lawyers, Law Schools, Law Suits, Judges and Courts + Career Resources

I know two of my friends had issues with it but hopefully none of the other IE bar-takers had issues.

I saw that. If I get a letter to opt in, I might if there's a compelling reason. As it stands, very doubtful. I had some problems but eventually it worked out.

It was frustrating but I don't understand why examinees are freaking the F out. Were the Bar Examiners really going to fail someone because they couldn't submit their essays by the deadline when the problem was so widely known? Just law students being stupid assholes (typical) IMO. You think this shit doesn't happen to everybody else in the world on occasion? Yeah it does and they don't sue about it. An inconvenience doesn't amount to a reason to file a law suit.

Just ridiculous and embarrassing for our profession.

Right, I don't know if I get what lasting harm requiring a legal remedy has been done here.

But I do feel really bad for you guys. I would have been a complete basketcase for as long as it took to actually submit the thing. That must have really sucked.

Most importantly, congrats on being done! I know that's a great feeling.

This is pretty much where I am. In the end, it worked. It just didn't work like it was supposed to and that caused a significant amount of stress on one of the most intense days in people's lives.

The product definitely did not perform in the way in which it was supposed it, and it essential failed since exams couldn't be submitted by the original deadlines. But, in the end exams got turned in. I'm not sure what the measure of damages would be. Honestly, a contrite apology probably would make most people happy.

I'm with the folks at ATL, though, in that I'm really curious to read the response by ExamSoft. Something tells me there will be snark.

This. The exams were uploaded, no harm done. Like Rack em said - inconvenience is not cause for litigation.

Only harm that I can think is that someone was so distraught that it affected them on day 2 as well, which then "caused them to fail" ... Not exactly the easiest to prove that's for sure

I am neither an attorney nor have I played one on stage or screen, big or small. I've not stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, or whatever hotel or motel .

I'm just a wise ass who has worked with many a lawyer and been present at many BAR/BRI sessions. I've also fought off sleep in many Estate Planning legal conferences. With that background and quasi-qualifications established, I feel compelled to ask a question or three.

Is "inconvenience" a narrowly defined term of art? Could "inconvenience" not run the gamut from waiting for the cable guy to negligence that results in a wrongful death? Is "inconvenience," and the result, not a matter of individual perception and a matter for a jury to decide?

Merit be damned, it is every citizen's right to file suit in our legal system.

Should any of you åttorneys, be it in deposition or court, be tempted to utter "I have one more/one last question" when intending to open a new line of questioning – don't. You may just find a judge who takes you at your word and tells you to sit down (and shut up) before you begin follow up questions. Further deposition testimony could very well be stricken from the record.

Oh ... and take to heart the "never ask a question to which you don't know the answer" advice. Asses get bitten.
